Gears Town
Electro City is a story of tiny creatures called megawatts who live in our power grid. They travel inside our power lines and live in power stations and transformers. One day a blackout from a thunderstorm threatens everything they hold dear to them. It's up to Frizzy and her friends to travel across the world to save her town. They travel inside power lines, internet cables and under the ocean to find the creator of electricity. With his help they can save Frizzi's town.
Frizzy here! I've lived in this magical wonderland called Gears Town my whole life. It's full of old-time folks that wear these big straw hats and cowboy boots. We are in the desert after all. It's a small, quiet town with loud people. Spittoons, saloons, wooden old western shops, and our local dog named Rusty Bolts. It's dusty, rough, and full of sand, but with a little shine, I think this place could really start to look up. That's where I come in. Frizzi's the name my family gave me because, well, I'm so frizzy. I rip things apart and build them bigger, better, stronger, and shocking! The rest of my family doesn't really see things the way I do and although we don't share the same interests, I believe one day I could show them the future. By the future I mean the internet. That thing has got it all. Funny videos, crazy people, new and interesting ideas that could really change my town for the better. I can just see it now. (Funny daydream moment of the town in the future)
In my town there lived a colony of furry little creatures called megawatts, that's us. These crazy charged creatures were always jumping around and conducting currents all through the town. Town by town these little furiously cute creatures lived in each and every electrical transformer. You know those cylinder things way up high on those wooden poles by the side of the road. Those little buggers created our entire infrastructure that built the world. Before that there were the ashes (Little fire guys that dripped ash). They were en-caged in these old lanterns and had to be lit every night. (Picture British ashes with posh accents). They used air to travel from lantern to lantern. (Hot air balloon and zeppelin transport with hand gliders and old TVs in their lantern community inside the lantern) (steampunk, kind of magical fairy dust people) Thankfully, those guys are gone, they were so rude. Now with the advancements of Sizzlman Frankbuzz (benjamin franklin) (show him flying a kite and getting shocked as an ash creature) and nikola teswatt (Nikola tesla) we can connect all these communities together to create something even better! The mighty and extravagant Giga City! This city was the substation to the whole process, I'm talking shiny streets, cool cars, and anything your heart desires. (Chrome city with greenery)
These guys made everything possible for the Megawatts and their smaller towns. The city was gigantic and filled with fun and cool things to do. Zipping trains that could just float in the air suspended by magneto creatures. Roads buzzing with the energy of the city. This was no slump, but the magic really happened where it all began, the power plant. This place is the mecca of life itself. It was like the IKEA of the world. Whatever you needed, they had it. Everything stemmed from this place. We all praised the big, towering stacks cutting the clouds in the sky. Nobody was ever allowed to go there but every night I would look across the city and imagine what they could be doing there. What a dream that could have been. (daydreaming). Well, back to my normal routine. I'm a sky climber. I change out lights for the digital creatures. These towers are so high you could see the entire coast. I even get to talk to my buddy Digi. He's like a messenger for the giants(humans). His whole family does it. My Mom says I can only travel in my hometown, but I imagine what it would be like to see the other side. (Dark clouds closing in the distance with lightning and thunder) I better get home, said Frizzy.
I slide down the rope that secures me to the radio tower as the thunder starts to shake and rumble the tower sending rumbling through the metal surface. I Zipline down to electrical wires hanging from the tower which go to the ground. I'm on my way home as I grind through the lanes on my electric roller blades. All the lights on the street level (inside the wire streets) start to dim as lightning slams into the dry desert ground. I shoot my hook gun and grapple onto the lights avoiding falling debris. Almost home, I just have to get there before our town closes the big metal doors as they brace for the storm's impact. I slide under the vault doors and make it into our town center. My house is just down the road. I fly into my bedroom window as the whole house is going under lockdown with sheets of metal locking us all inside. The storm rages as we rush to the basement. Over the radio we hear our mayor comforting all the citizens of Gears Town. A piece of wood and shrapnel cut into our ceiling in the basement and water dripped from above. The lights sizzle, dim and everything fades to darkness. We fell asleep on the couch in the basement surrounded by water beginning to flood.
The next day we woke up and put our house defenses offline. As we all gathered to the town center the mayor of the city said on the intercom that nobody was allowed to leave the city center or beyond. Nobody in our town had electricity and our colors were beginning to fade.(from yellow to black).(faint yellow now). I can help, I yelled out to the crowd. My parents told me I couldn't go and it was too dangerous to go anywhere. I had to do something or everyone and everything would crumble. Our town was losing power drastically by the hour. Flowers were wilting and our home was starting to glitch out. I couldn't just sit here and watch everything vanish. I ran to the back of the wall behind the bushes where I used to sneak out at night to hang out with digi. I jumped on my rollerblades and set off as fast as I could. The highway roads were crumbling and overgrown with vegetation. There I saw the Surges. Dressed in brown with rust covering their metal robotic bodies. One of them yells out "intruder alert," and I jump into the air with my hook gun and grapple onto the street lights. The surges start shooting net guns to try to capture me. They seem to feed off of electric creatures as I spot little yellow guys in their circular bellies. Nice try guys! See you never! I made it up the rope and to the signal tower where digi was. I tell him everything and we make a plan to find the inventor of electricity to save my home town. We travel down the slide inside the cell tower where Digi has his car waiting. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. The streets are full of tvs and colors. Everything is chrome and shiny with trees growing from the ceiling downward. People are traveling alongside us in these vacuum tubes so fast. We make it to his house to gear up and look up where to find the inventor of electricity. His room is filled with computers and tiny walking robots. Even his dog is a robot made of tiny robots. You could change the walls of his room by pressing a button. Now we're at the beach, now we're in the city, now we're in space. Digi showed me everything I have ever dreamed of. On his 3d computer he found a link to the inventor of the internet. All the way in a place called Great Britain. "That's where we need to go, Frizzy," said Digi. From there, we put on our cool tech suits and set off for a journey of a lifetime.
We took Digi’s car to the train station and set off. We got our own room full of snacks. I explored the train as it took off into the sky traveling at the speed of light. So much to see on the outside. (Fiber cable is clear). (Details of places). Projectors and screens showing moving pictures of different places around the world. One of them called "Japan" had cherry blossoms with the pedals falling down on the screen and the pedals were 3d so they were falling into the train through the moonroof. Digi told me of the places in stories that amazed me. Not even Digi has been this far before, goodbye small-town USA, hello the world. Suddenly, all of the lights in the train turned blue, the conductor over the speaker saying fasten your seatbelts, we are going below!!! and we plunged straight down. I grit my eyes closed as Digi laughs at me. I open my eyes to these colorful creatures called fish. So many of them are in big and small groups. Our train finally hits the bottom when the conductor says over the speaker, welcome to the Atlantic Ocean, Dinner is served! Our train lights up and everything around us starts to open up. It's like a huge city highway underground. So many stores, types of weird people. On the outside huge fish and octopus in neon colors. We fall asleep on the train to tranquil sounds and jellyfish floating above us. (Train has a moonroof).
I wake up to breakfast and Digi stuffing his face. Over the speaker I hear next stop, Ireland! Digi and I looked up on his laptop of the things in Ireland and found funny videos. Our train was coming into the station. We got off at the stop but nobody else did. It was like a ghost town. A man of the ash people in a funny uniform with a bagpipe walked up to us and we started saying "yorgin torgin noopie googie." He then started dancing up and down making weird sounds with his instrument. One of his eyes was googlie. Digi hit the top of his head which resets him, and his eye went back into place. He said to us, "whater youus want hmmmm?" We told him how we needed to get to Britain, and he said, "Ol righty over here Yun snappers." He led us to his house which was on a brick road. Looking to the outside we only saw lanterns. No internet or electricity. It was odd but also pretty cool. His house was steampunk with gears and cogs and a smokestack coming out of his house. It looked like a shoe but full of machine parts. He sat us down and drew up a map. His steampunk cat jumped up on the table and greeted us. He stabbed the map and said, "right er here is what you want." He showed us the routes and told us to be careful of the dragons and elf people along the way. He threw his map back in his big treasure chest and showed us to the top of the transport tower where we saw a hang glider and a zeppelin and a hot air balloon. This is how you go, he told us. We picked up the hot air balloon and made off. On the land were goats and farmland. The winds started ramping us and it pushed us off course.
Crash, thud, our balloon was stuck on something as I get up to take a look outside. (Looks out over basket) I look over the edge to see a giant tower as our air balloon gets snagged on the side of it. We jump off as the balloon deflates and we land on the top of the tower where we see some fellow watts towards the middle of the tower. We approach them as they have dinner with an impeccable view. Digi taps on the man's shoulder and asks him where we were. He points to the city and says in a fancy accent with a bit of a mumble, "you are in the grand city of love, food, and dreams. You, my friend, are in France! We need to find London sir, I said. London my dear boy, London is very far, said the French man. He told us to come sit by him for some food. Yum static and protons-light particles, as they float in different colors around the dish like fireflies. He tells us how to get to London. We borrow his cool electric motorcycle and zip down the tower in the power lines. We see everything in the city. I snap pictures for my scrapbook. Digi and I come across a surge with enemies coming straight at us as we drive to our destination. Time for a detour Digi yells as he pulls a wheelie and jumps onto the internet wire down below us. We crash down into the tunnel sending us into a crazy vortex and we accidentally get sent into a house as we slide into the ethernet port of a nearby computer. We ding around inside the wire and get thrown into a laptop connected to the wire.
The light around us in the tunnel instantly goes into darkness. We are knee deep in beautiful baby blue water heading down the tunnel. We venture towards the end of the tunnel which is illuminated by an eye searing bright white light. It becomes more apparent the farther we walk towards it. We stand at the end of the tunnel looking down. Below us is a glistening waterfall flowing thousands of feet down into a green and mossy ravine with black sands. The ravine leading to a metropolis of lights and a mega city. We jump and glide through the air with our hang gliders. The air hitting our faces filled with mist from the waterfall and flying insects high in the sky. We look to see where the ravine leads to in the distance as we approach closer.
"This place looks wild '', it's a city built with 100 levels of towns and highways. Half all chrome in the city and half wildlife. Green trees growing in the sidewalk and vines growing on the chroma buildings. Everyone here is full of so much color. Everyone is wearing business suits and riding on sport bikes leaving rainbow trails behind on a blue led highway. We see a bike rack and borrow a bike and drive around looking for our way out of here. We stop off at a diner and take a seat. We overhear someone talking about the world beyond us as everyone ignores him. The cook behind the diner shouts the man's name demanding him to leave, "Stop with your nonsense Glitch!" He takes his coffee with his sign that reads "There's a world beyond, I've seen it". We follow the man outside where he is sitting on the street corner by his stuff. We approach him and ask him who he is and if he can help us. His face lights up and he tells us dreams of a world beyond this place. He tells us his name is Glitch and that people call him that because he can't do anything but dream. Glitch said he was born to dream and see the world. He was the result of a computer system glitch. (He was a malfunctioning digital creature who acted funny and glitched a little like someone was zapping him. (He has a hole in his shoe with a toe hanging out, he wears a cap on his head that is worn and owns a little cat named Leo) (Leo is a fat Chinese cat) He was unlike any of the other people here which acted like robots with no expression. We told him that we believed him and that we could help him see the world beyond here if he would help us try to find the outside world. He told us that he knows of a way but it's very dangerous and he needed our help to make it out. He said we had to venture up the 100 stories by climbing the mountain on the side of the 100-story building. This was the shortcut as we couldn't get into each level without clearance. The man brings out hiking gear inside of his tent in the alley and hands us the gear. We all get the gear on and walk to the mountain. Climbing it with the cold snowy files brushing across us. (Mountain is snow but instead of snow its white papers/files of a computer) We walk for miles and climb up with pickaxes and rope attached to our belts. Swinging across like in tomb raider we jump to a cliff to get around the dead end. We find a hut and a snowmobile sitting beside it. Me and Digi get on and the man gets on the skies attached to the snowmobile. He yells with joy and laughter as we shred the mountain. Digi yells look out! A rumble starts to make our snowmobile swerve and the man behind yells avalanche! We try to outmaneuver it, but we get buried.
I wake up frantically and look for Digi. I can't find him and I'm alone and scared. (The static electricity around him turns blue) After hours of searching, I break down and cry. I look into my backpack at the scrapbook that I was putting together and look at the Gears Town people, Digi, and other moments. I say to myself, I'm sorry, I couldn't make it. I fell asleep in the nap sack I packed in my backpack. I wake up to laughter and a light. I follow the light guided by the aura borealis. The laughter and sounds get louder and louder. I see a campfire and logs beside it with glowing marshmallows over it. (Marshmallows are light particles that look like it) It's a cute little black and white cat with spots. I'll call you Muca. I thought I heard Digi though. You did, said Digi behind me. I turn around with a smile and hug him. I thought you were a goner. The crazy man jumped from under the snow papers under me and said, same here sparky. I was so glad to see them. What do we do now I asked? Both of them said they didn't know. Muca looked at me and pointed with her nose in a direction with a funny noise showing us that she wanted us to follow her. We follow Muca to a weird glowing hole in the ground near the top of the mountain. Muca points down and smiles. Thank you little one. Muca jumps into my backpack, and we slide through the hole in the ground. We fell down onto a train. We see signs everywhere on the sides pointing to Britain. Yes! We are on the way finally.
Passing the blue ring tube, we hit a mega slide and are launched into the air. We land in the digital tube and make our way inside the directory, the telephone booth. We run across the index and look up electricity city to find the creator of electricity. He is somewhere in the district called clock Mod City. Digi points to the only clock in sight. It's a giant Clock tower. That must be it, Frizzy replied. We jump on the telephone buttons dialing the location in and get sucked into the phone. It takes us to the underground ancient sewers of London where we see another civilization and then we shoot to the top of the tower. There we see clocks everywhere and a long hallway with cool artifacts. We knock on the big door to see the inventor of electricity. No answer. We walk inside and see a robot man made of clock parts. He tells us the inventor hasn't been seen for years. We came all this way to help fix my town, we told the man. He said the inventor told the robotic man that he was expecting Frizzy would come and to tell him that he was the key to the future. The robotic man gave him a book showing him everything the inventor worked on and everything that the future would hold. He saw battery designs, cool looking windmills and a device that would generate lightning to use as power. The clock man/robotic man was the future see-er and told Frizzy that he was going to do things that the world has never seen before. The clock man then said there's no time to waste and opened the roof of the clock tower which had a giant satellite, it sucked them into it. The clock man said you are the key Frizzy, while he threw them an artifact, saying you'll know what to do with it when the time comes, it's what you have always done. They turned into particles and beamed into outer space where they saw little space guys as they were beaming to the satellite in the sky. They saw the past and future as they were getting beamed up. (Past and future for Digi and frizzy so digital stuff and electrical inventions). They made it to the satellite where they saw another civilization of creatures who had a city there on the satellite. They were then re-directed by the satellite through a toll way with a really lazy person who let people into the major highway. They made it past the tollway and to Gears town after they told the person where they needed to go after they paid the tollway. Beamed back down to gears town. They ran away from the surges and Frizzy looked at the artifact and saw a Wi-Fi symbol on it. Frizzy looked to the sky and it clicked. The radio tower Frizzy exclaimed! They raced up to the tower in the Nic of time before their whole town was destroyed. Digi held them off and Frizzy inserted the artifact into the radio tower which sent out shock waves fixing everything. The Surges disappeared, the towns turned vibrant again and the power plant turned back on. (The power plant was slowly fading off). They go back to the town center in Gears town and Frizzy is congratulated along with Digi. Everyone is so curious about Digi because they have never seen a creature like that. They were both given the keys to the city in a ceremony and Frizzy was given the Lightning bolt which could open the Power plant. The mayor of Gears town told Frizzy he earned it. Make us proud, he told Frizzy and Digi. They went to the power plant and saw that in the control center it was the inventor of the electricity with pictures of him everywhere and his knickknacks on the table with a note that said, Reach for the stars Frizzy.
Digi and Frizzy worked together on so many projects there. Created so many inventions. Frizzy came up with something called the fusion reactor which made an artificial sun on earth that could generate endless electricity for everyone. They invented wireless electrical poles. Everyone from Gears town mixed in with the people from the big cities to a new place called Atlas where they all lived together. This was A mega substation city. Frizzy invited Digi and everyone they met on their way to London to a big party. They lived in peace and had a blast together. End of story. (Show funny and cool stuff after.) (Fill in parts later if other characters join in power plant for different ending)

Alex Murdaugh murder trial: Saga thickens as judge ponders whether to admit financial crimes

Michael M. DeWitt, Jr. - Greenville News - 2/2/23
[Video Link]
The Alex Murdaugh crime saga became more intriguing Thursday.
South Carolina Circuit Judge Clifton Newman continues to hear arguments - with information that could win or lose this historic criminal case - over whether or not to admit evidence of alleged financial crimes and other "bad acts" as motive in the June 7, 2021 murders of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh.
With the jury in waiting until the matter is decided, counsel for both sides made compelling arguments over whether or not Murdaugh's more than 100 other criminal charges - mainly stealing from law clients and other attorneys - as well as at least two of the dozen civil cases against him, are legally admissible under S.C. Rules of Evidence Rule 404(b) in this double murder trial in Colleton County.
Witness testimony detailed how Murdaugh was confronted by his own law firm on the morning of the murders about missing legal fees, and was expected later that week to meet with opposing attorneys to discuss his financial matters as part of the 2019 Beach wrongful death suit. Lead prosecutor Creighton Waters painted Murdaugh as a desperate man looking to mask his malfeasance.
"On June 7, 2021, he is out of options," said Waters during the in-camera hearing, with no jury present. "For the jury to understand that, they have to understand what he was doing, and what he was trying to hide."
"When the hounds are at the door, when Hannibal is at the gates for Alex Murdaugh, violence happens," he added. "They really need to understand what this man was hiding. He was hiding something like we've never seen before."
Arguably, Murdaugh attorney Jim Griffin makes one of his most compelling arguments of the trial to date, citing the history of "trust and brotherhood" at Murdaugh's law firm that enabled him to pay back money he had misappropriated or misspent in the past.
While the state has claimed that Murdaugh killed his family to gain sympathy and distract from his crimes, Griffin pointed out that the troubled former attorney's father was on his death bed, and that achieved the same goal without violence. He also pointed out that the murders of Paul and Magge were detrimental for Murdaugh - putting him in a "bullseye circle" as the prime suspect and hurting him financially by delaying refinancing of his Edisto beach house and adding a loan on his Moselle property.
"How murdering Maggie Murdaugh and Paul Murdaugh eased his financial stress - it doesn't," stated Griffin. "It's just a theory, no facts. There is no logical connection whatsoever."
Griffin also objected to entering the financial crime evidence on the grounds that it would lengthen an already lengthy trial, which is expected to last at least until Feb. 10. To date, the state has only called 21 witnesses (before the jury) from a potential witness list of 255 witnesses, with new witnesses being added as the trial progresses.
"We're going to be here until the end of February, into March," he added.
Newman, while not ruling on the matter, indicated that he would be in favor of allowing the evidence if the state could prove it was within the scope of the law.
"Evidence of other crimes can be used to show motive, intent, common schemes and plans," said Newman. "I find that it is admissible provided the proper scrutiny is done... "

Looking ahead to Friday's proceedings in the Alex Murdaugh double murder trial

Newman will give the matter further scrutiny Friday morning, with another in-camera hearing at 9:30, before bringing the jury in at 11:30.
Possibly testifying Friday morning are more PMPED employees or partners to testify about confronting Murdaugh on missing fees, as well as employees of Palmetto State Bank in Hampton to testify about his desperate financial condition at the time of the murders. Allendale attorney Mark Tinsley is expected to testify Monday in a sans-jury hearing about the pressure the boat crash wrongful death suit put on Murdaugh.
The state on Friday is also expected to introduce evidence of Murdaugh's own admissions of guilt, including a $4.3 million confession of judgement in the Gloria Satterfield Estate case and possibly a visit from a representative of the S.C. Supreme Court, which disbarred him in July 2022.

Alex Murdaugh's betrayed boyhood friend makes emotional testimony

During the financial evidence hearing, the state called Chris Wilson, a Bamberg attorney who had been close friends with Murdaugh since high school, to testify about missing legal fees which Murdaugh allegedly stole that led to his June 7 confrontation with PMPED CFO Jeannie Seckinger.
Murdaugh and Wilson had worked together in a products liability suit, and Murdaugh allegedly misappropriated $792,000 in legal fees that were supposed to be paid from Wilson's firm to PMPED, then borrowed the money after the killings to replace most of what he had allegedly taken.
It was obvious that Wilson felt betrayed by Murdaugh.
"He was one of my best friends, and I thought that he felt that way about me," Wilson said, his voice thick with emotion.
"Feel that way now?" asked Waters. "I don't know how I feel, Mr. Waters," he responded, as Murdaugh hung his head and wiped tears.

Other Murdaugh murder trial highlights Thursday

∎Michael Gunn, of Forge Consulting, testified that checks to Murdaugh's fake Forge account at Bank of America were not legitimate.
∎14th Circuit Solicitor's Office Investigator Dylan Hightower testified about locating and recovering Maggie's phone a half mile from the murder scene, and SLED Senior Special Agent Katie McCallister testified about searching the Moselle residence for weapons and blood evidence.
∎Heidi Galore, records custodian at Snap, Inc., testified about Paul's snapchat video uploaded around 7:39 p.m. that shows Murdaugh wearing different clothes from what he was seen in by responding officers.
∎A 10th grade journalism class from Colleton Prep Academy was present Thursday morning as an educational field trip. The school expects to send three more classes later in the trial.

Thursday a.m. updates in Colleton County court

A host of key witnesses offering what could be damning evidence are prepared to testify against accused family killer and disbarred lawyer Richard "Alex" Murdaugh - but only if Judge Clifton Newman decides that evidence of other crimes or "bad acts" is admissible in the double murder trial.
Attorneys for Murdaugh, who is charged with the June 7, 2021, killings of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, have filed motions to exclude evidence of Murdaugh more than 100 other alleged crimes, as well as any evidence or testimony related to a 2019 fatal boat crash involving Paul in which Murdaugh was sued.

Judge Clifton Newman's ruling on boat crash testimony

But Judge Newman ruled early Thursday morning that boat crash matters and character testimony would be allowed because Murdaugh attorney Jim Griffin "opened the door" to those matters during Wednesday afternoon's cross examination of two witnesses, Paul's friends Rogan Gibson and Will Loving.
"You have opened the door for the state to respond by asking questions," Newman told Griffin Thursday. "That opened the door for the state to address the issue."
But Newman has fully ruled on the issue of allowing financial crimes evidence under S.C. Rules of Evidence Rule 404(b). Newman sent the jury from the room early Thursday and conducted a 404(b) hearing to begin that determination.

Jeannie Seckinger CFO of Murdaugh's family law firm takes the stand

During that hearing, lead prosecutor Creighton Waters called Jeannie Seckinger, the CFO of Murdaugh's family law firm in Hampton, PMPED (now called Parker Law Group), to testify.
Seckinger testified that she had confronted Murdaugh on June 7, 2021 - the day of the murders - about missing legal fees. She also testified that Murdaugh told her he was working to prepare "financials" for a hearing that Thursday in the boat crash wrongful death suit filed the mother of Mallory Beach, who died in that crash.
The state has filed documents alleging that Murdaugh was under pressure that day, because of the confrontation with Seckinger at PMPED, and because of the boat case, and that his motive for murder was to distract PMPED from his alleged wrongdoing, gain sympathy, and buy some time to cover his tracks.
Seckinger also testified at length about numerous accounts in which Murdaugh allegedly took money. When Waters asked her if Murdaugh misappropriated that money or paid the clients, she corrected him by saying, "stole." The law firm ultimately had to pay back every stolen dollar, she said.
She also testified that Murdaugh was trying to restructure attorney fees and put money in his wife's name to hide from the boat crash case, which PMPED objected to.
"... that would be wrong, and we didn't want any part of that," she said.
When Seckinger confronted Murdaugh, he gave her a "dirty" and frustrated look, and said, "What do you want now?" she recalled.
"I am doing my job" and need proof, she responded. After the murders, said Seckinger, Murdaugh was "distraught and nobody wanted to harass him about it (the missing legal fees)."
Once Newman sets the rules on the admissibility of the financial matters, the state is prepared to call Annette Griswald, Murdaugh's paralegal who first brought his crimes to Seckinger's attention, representatives from the S.C. Supreme Court and Palmetto State Bank, and several attorneys, to support their case.
When court resumes around 2:15, it is unclear if Newman will rule immediately, or hear further discussion, or if the state will call alternate witnesses pending his decision.

2023.02.03 05:29 MetsFan3117 90 Day Season 6

I’m rewatching season 6 right now. It’s one of the most infuriating seasons I think I’ve ever watched and I’ve watched them all.
Steven and Olga: I literally want to reach through the screen and strangle Steven. It’s ALL about him. Has to be his way. Him threatening to take their NEWBORN back to the US while Olga is scared and freaking out is just unreal.
Larissa and Colt: “Who is against the Queen will die”! Colt actually came off as slightly sympathetic in this season. We all know he is not. Who has a car in without AC, period, forget in a desert?!
Fernanda and I Forgot His Name: Whatever. He’s an asshole. He was an adult preying on a young girl, buying her tits and mentioning it constantly, gaslighting her. He sucks. Imagine your first night in a new country— the power is out and you find a woman’s thong in one of the few pieces of furniture.
Jay and Ashley: she never should have brought him to that racist shitty town she lives in. Acting surprised when they received threats.
Leida and Eric: I could go off for DAYS about them. Honestly they are one of the most disgusting couples ever. If she was so rich and had so much money, why the FUCK didn’t she come with her own bank account?? Eric is the OLDEST looking 40 year old I have ever seen. If he is 40 I am 20. I hate them both, but Eric gave her shitty expectations. How much can a two bedroom in Bugaboo middle of nowhere America cost? Like 1k? And he MADE HIS 19 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER SPLIT THE BILLS THEN KICKED HER OUT? He has no furniture, lives in a walk up, and chooses his daughter over a woman he barely knows? Yes, Leida is an asshole for questioning and crying over child support. However, Eric kept mentioning it as an excuse for everything. Can’t get a bed? Child support. Can’t buy a couch? Gotta pay child support. Can’t have a wedding anywhere but a budget hotel’s meeting room? Child support.
I think they’re one of the worst couples ever.
That said I would love a “where are they now” episode about them. Just one episode.

2023.02.03 05:21 throwaway_4310 Overseas travel with 1.5 yo- carseat?

We are potentially doing a family trip to part of Europe later this year (we live in North America). Our baby will be around a year and a half at that point. I plan to baby wear most of the time, several aunts/uncles will be happy to help carry, and we're planning to try to take public transportation as much as possible. We just heard from family about beginning to make plans, so those are all of the details that currently exist.
That said... what if we need a taxi/ubecar rental?
Do we need to buy a "slim" carseat and lug it around just in case? (We did a short domestic flight earlier last year for a wedding, took the stroller and car seat, and it was a lot to manage even with two people, and I'm still not convinced that my car seat was handled as gently as it should have been, with our bag ripped and shredded by our arrival at our first destination, and good for nothing but the trash by the time we got back.)
Is there a Doona seat/stroller combo for bigger children? (The ones I've seen seem to be a better fit for petite babies in the earlier months- ours is currently too wide to fit in a graco infant seat, so I imagine it would be the same with the Doona?)
We use the Graco Extend2Fit convertible seat right now, but I feel like taking a full rear facing car seat would be such an enormous inconvenience if it wasn't necessary.
If we get overseas and do need a car seat, how easy is it to find them? Rent? Buy? How are prices in Europe compared to the US?
Ideally we will get trains, but I have limited experience traveling in Europe, and definitely not with a baby and all the gear.
I don't overthink, at all, ever. 🤦‍♀️ Shower me with your experience and knowledge!

2023.02.03 05:16 ShusakuSilence The "Quebecois Nationalism" problem

Sorry for the english-- I'm a part of the youth who've been "colonized" by anglicisation and I can express myself better this way. Feel free to brush me off as a "fake quebecois".
I feel like a large part of the tension involved in Quebecois Nationalism is the fact that we really have two competing mythologies:
Terre de nos aïeux - The sort of thing we're taught in school-- How the french settlers bore the yoke of Britain & eventually shrugged off the yoke of the Roman Church during the Quiet Revolution. A mythology of an oppressed people with unfinished business ultimately. Mythologies, as always, are the basis for the living religion of a people-- Quebec is no exception to this. Far from being irreligious, one of the most popular religions in Quebec today is "Quiet-Revolutionism" which is really a cargo cult of the actual Quiet Revolution. Like Catholicism, it has its designated idols-- the most sacred of them is "Secularism". The Catholic tendency of forcing religion into places it doesn't belong still survives today, although under the guise of "secularism".
WW2 - Really the mythology of the current "western world". Serves as a sort of Trojan War for Anglo-American unipolar order. In Quebec, we're told, people didn't want to fight WW2 but Canada as a nation was very eager to integrate more fully with the new American system (see: Bretton-Woods Conference). This mythology is taken as a given by most people. It's purpose is to cover up the Realpolitik involved in the creation of the "American System" out of the ruins of WW2 and paint America as the good guy in an effort to legitimize the empire.
Obviously you can buy into both of these cosmologies at the same time, and any number of them at once in fact: it's indicative of the "polytheism" of our time. You can even pick and choose your favorite cults! You can go to the Temple of Apollo (Marvel) one day, the Temple of Aphrodite (Disney) the other, etc.
Neither of these mythologies, as they exist, are adequate to really deal with the problems of digital modernity. That being said, the first, at the very least, recognizes that the Empire still reigns, while the other pretends that everything is fine.

2023.02.03 05:11 UnvarnishedThought If you find yourself disheartened be encouraged by your knowledge of the truth

Now this isn't to advise people to excuse themselves if they are giving into sin or doing anything else not in line with identity in Christ.
I was just listening to a message recently and something said really stuck with me. The discussion was about Christians dealing with ongoing sin, and how we are supposed to address it.
In the message it was said that while we should of course be fleeing sin we should also not take for granted how uncommon this life in Christ is. We are living in a world that is sinning constantly against God, and for the most part showing 0 repentance. If you were to go to any city in America and certainly globally and walk by 1000 people, most of them think nothing of Christ. They spend their lives with selfish intent embracing all manner of sin for pleasure. Many of them dismiss God entirely and refuse to believe in Him.
This is not to say we are superior to anyone, we are justified by Christ alone, and we shared the same trajectory as the world before we were converted. I simply find encouragement through my confession. I thank God for the conviction I feel and for my repentant heart. I can't imagine living without God as so so many do. It is such a blessing to be able to look at my life and say that even though I stumble my drive to stand back up and rest in Christ is part of the most amazing gift.

2023.02.03 04:27 Extension_Noise6059 This is the first time i'm venting to anybody about my problems

I feel really depressed lately, I'm stuck in a situation i can't get out of, I'll try my best to explain why
I think it started because my parents would move a hella lot, first moving houses and then countries, that means i had to say goodbye to my friends i made in school MANY times, a lot of that time i was home schooled too, so i didn't have many irl friends. around when i was 13 we moved to U.S, which was really good except after 2 years YET again i had to leave my friends again, and sadly i don't keep contact with them anymore. After that i became super socially akward to the point where i'm really scared to open up or even talk to people because i am afraid of being judged, my online friends feel fake, especially lately they seem not to give a fuck about me and constantly make fun of me for absolute no reason. My parents decided to move to a country in South America and not so long after that they split up, which really fucked me up because at the same time i had to break up with my 2 year relationship with my gf due to her turning super toxic. I've been in south america for about a year now and i didn't want to learn Spanish at all and i feel like an outcast because I don't have anything in common with those people, my dad doesn't want to move out of this country either because he bought land and wants to live over here. I'm too scared to go outside, especially alone, because people stare at me and i feel judged because i'm not from their country, I usually sit at home and play guitaplay video games and watch anime. I'm turning 18 soon and that's not how i imagined my life to be, I would move to another country but travelling alone is scary, and idk if i could support myself.

Life is scary man, I just want to find some real friends and have a good time and not feel so lonely anymore :(
I don't know what i should do about this situation...

2023.02.03 04:10 ThickProof409 There should be a Hellblazer show that takes place in England

I feel like there should be a Hellblazer show that takes place in England. We haven't gotten any Hellblazer shows or movies that take place in England despite the main character being from Liverpool and the Hellblazer comics taking place in England. The Constantine movie localized Hellblazer for American audiences by making John and Chas American and by having the movie take place in Los Angeles. The Constantine show gave us an English live action John Constantine and also gave us the best comic book casting ever with Matt Ryan as John Constantine however they also made Chas and Zed American and the show largely takes place in America although I think they go to Mexico at one point in the show. I'm not saying that you can't have a good Hellblazer show if it's not set in England. The Constantine show is my favorite Hellblazer adaptation despite it not being set in England. I'm just saying it would be nice to have a Hellblazer show actually be set in England for once and I feel like there's also a lot of elements from the comics that could be adapted if they had it take place in England.

2023.02.03 04:07 Breadnaught150 Grim Greetings, Grimmer Farewells: Chapter 10

Three days until the goddesses would see us. They certainly took their sweet time getting back to me, and then even had the audacity to delay further. I can’t stand them the majority of the time. I put in the request weeks ago, and I had to jump through hoops just to do that. The messengers we brought with us were scared of demanding an audience with all of the goddesses on our part, can’t say I blame them though. Regardless, they finally got back to me. Which means the problem is ‘worth’ their time.
Shadow is still on her collection/surveillance trip, so that leaves me to handle the preparations. So much has to be done for us to be able to leave. I have to place one of my soul nets over the planet, I need to set up my living quarters if I’m to return, and Shadow needs to find a pack of her huntresses to take her place. I could worry about her needs when she returned, but I was worried about my own in the meantime.
What if my net doesn’t work with The Reaper prowling the planet and beyond? Can I rely on what has worked for millenia, when the newest threat seems to defy all I previously knew as universal law? I would just have to deploy it and hope for the best.
I stood from my bunk before I could think of more things that could go wrong. Goddess knows I could very easily overthink things. I took a good look around the room Shadow and I had called home and headed out for an attempt at claiming my sailors souls.
As I left the ship and made my way to the surface I caught a glimpse of an explosion. It seemed to come from the ‘New England’ area of America. A great deal of chaos and mayhem had been erupting there lately. I made that my priority and touched ground in less than a minute.
I was met with a horrible sight, dozens of bodies everywhere, Shil’vati and otherwise. I was shocked that so many could be killed by these lowly monkeys, but they had been proving dangerous. Regardless, I started collecting and I made considerable progress, but he quickly made himself present. In the blink of an eye The Reaper had arrived and put his scythe to almost every soul in the area.
I was awestruck. He made my speed look like that of the decay of the universe. The awestruck was quickly replaced with rage when he made his way to leave. He was just going to steal all of these souls, not acknowledge me, and then leave?!
I charged him. Not my best idea, but one I stand by.
Just as I was going to connect with his skeletal frame, he stepped out of the way.
You do know, if you want to speak with me all you have to do is ask. Don’t you?”
I flew past him and got to taste what asphalt tastes like. I scrambled up to my feet and turned to him.
“You really don’t listen do you? They have entered my domain, they have laid waste to my people and my Lord’s kingdom. They have forfeit all mercy from me, and they have lost their right to eternal rest.”
My blood threatened to boil in my veins, he was so arrogant that he thinks he can really make such proclamations?! I stomped over to him and raised my hand to begin laying into him. But before my voice could leave my throat the air became icy cold.
I stopped short and looked at the demon. His gaze down upon me was extremely fear inducing. That's when I realized he was much taller than me. Any thought of yelling or being violent suddenly left my mind.
Your anger and frustration will only dig your own grave, forget not that if I so choose…” He leaned into my ear and spoke quietly I can cease your existence, and not even your goddesses could bring you back.”
I stumbled back from him in shock. Was he telling the truth? If he was then I needed to be very careful. I watched him with glaring eyes as he began to turn away. I was about to speak more in violation of his threat but someone beat me to it.
“How dare you speak to the Fisher of Souls in such a manner!” Shadow said as she melted out of the darkness of the caved in buildings.
“She could see your end, you thieving spirit. You ought to tremble in fear at her mere presence.” The foolish Rikiri said as she stalked up to The Reaper.
Shadow almost made it all the way before it got even colder. The sudden freeze made her stop in her tracks. Her ears flattened and her tail bristled as she tried to backtrack. The Reaper's arm outstretched and took Shadow in his grasp.
So this is the mighty Rikiri’s death hmmm. You should save the arrogance for your friend, it doesn’t suit you well.”
The Reaper lifted her from the ground and brought her head to his. She tried to squirm free but his grip was ironclad. The fear in her eyes was palpable as she strained in his hand.
Now normally I would say that bad dogs deserve punishment, but you’ve yet to impede me. Don’t find yourself in my way again.”
Shadow dropped to the ground and I ran to her side. She was gasping for air and there were tears in her eyes. I looked up at the Reaper with a righteous fury, but he met my gaze with his eyeless visage. I saw into the darkness of his skull and all my anger left me. In its place I felt nothing but fear and despair. I saw my existence flash before my eyes, and his skeletal smile seemed to grow.
“Curious isn't it? You think yourself so powerful, yet my mere presence causes you to fear for your life. You might want to rethink your immortality, and how much this fight is worth for you.”
He turned his gaze from me and vanished from all view.
I let go a breath I didn’t know I was holding and burst into tears. I leaned into Shadow as we both cried, about the fear, the feeling of death at our doorstep, the ease with which he dealt with us. How could we expect to beat him ourselves when he makes us look like infants?
I wiped the snot away from my nose and tried to gather myself. I took deep breaths and stood on shaky legs. I tried to dispel the fear from my head but couldn’t, it seemed to be omnipresent. I pulled Shadow to her feet and we left for the ship. Once there we sat in silence for what felt like hours.
After the ship's alert for shift change happened is when I shook myself from my comatose. I spoke to Shadow in a voice that didn’t sound like my own, strained and cracking.
Shadow didn’t answer, just sat there looking at her paws. Her tail was between her legs in defeat. I needed to know she was okay so I spoke again.
At this she looked up. Clearly the notion of finding his potential weakness piqued her interest.
“Perhaps you are right, there must be some things we are missing about him. And starting with his god may be a good way to truly understand him. I'll start right away.”
With that she moved her omnipad to her lap and began to dig through the datanet. I copied her, and I began my search with what I had heard him call his god. I searched ‘Lord Almighty’, ‘The Lord our Father’, ‘God’, and ‘the God of Gods’. All indicated the god that spanned three religions of Earth. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
I dug further and further, specifying my search each time, and the more I dug, the more I despaired. If what the datanet told is true, and if what humans believe is to be trusted, then our goddesses had no chance. Our goddesses each had a thing they presided over, but the human God supposedly created all things.
She said nothing but slumped in her posture. I went back into my research hoping to find something, anything, that would help us defeat the Reaper.
Our survival depended on it.
Chapter 10! Shadow and the Reaper formally meet, and under strenuous circumstances. Will The Fisher of Souls lose hope? Find out in the coming chapters.

2023.02.03 03:55 Manoj_Malhotra What can Biden do with a divided Congress that he has promised to do but has not done so far? (Disclaimer: Very Nitty Gritty Policy Rant)

Climate Change
Evergreen Action wrote up a detailed 24-page document on the status of many different policies that are being taken or can be taken.
I also want to note the following should be priorities the admin starts actually prioritizing.
Setting ambitious carbon pollution standards for new and existing power plants under the Clean Air Act, through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and setting EPA pollution standards that reduce traditional air and water pollutants and improve public health;
Expanding transmission capacity, speeding up interconnections, and creating market parity for clean energy at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC);
This is going to be big for getting power from nuclear plants (and renewables) in inconvenient locations to the places that need them the most.
Implementing the Inflation Reduction Act effectively, with timely federal guidance on the IRA’s tax credits and grant programs and the distribution of funds in a way that maximizes carbon reductions and equitable economic opportunity; and
This also means effectively communicating to the public what benefits and overall impact IRA will have. Many rural districts are going to see many new jobs because of IRA. That needs to be communicated.
Advancing climate action at the state level, including accelerated 100 percent clean electricity and pollution standards that align with 80 percent clean power by 2030 and heightened oversight of polluting utilities.
We cannot keep up our dependence and let our economies be controlled by black gold and coal companies teetering around the drain.
Postal Banking
The American Prospect has written on which portions of it could be done without an act of Congress. And it's nothing new to America, since 4 million Americans used to do their banking at USPS.
Small Businesses will benefit the most from access to capital at fair rates.
Using the whip on Wall Street
Graham Steele, a former senior aide to Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), the ranking Democrat on the banking committee, outlined what an aggressive strategy would look like in a piece for the American Prospect’s Day One package. It includes:
Imposing a size cap on banks, using the Federal Reserve’s authority under either Dodd-Frank or the Federal Deposit Insurance Act. The regulation could follow proposed legislation by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) and break up JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley, as well as the insurers Prudential, MetLife, and AIG. This is a fairly unlikely and extreme option, but one with some support within the Democratic Party.
The Dodd-Frank Act required large banks to set up plans, colloquially known as “living wills,” for their orderly and safe dissolution in the event of a crisis; the idea was to avoid a repeat of the chaos of Bear Stearns’ and Lehman Brothers’ collapses in 2008. These “living wills” could be used to force major banks to divest some of their lines of business, so they shrink and become less powerful. FDIC and the Federal Reserve jointly issued the “living wills” rules and could take the lead on this issue.
Having the Federal Reserve use the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956 to force large banks to divest major parts of their business if the bank is considered not well-managed or threatening to the safety or stability of the financial system.
Having the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve limit the definition of “banking” to get megabanks out of commodities like electricity and oil and to limit their ability to trade complex derivatives (like the credit-default obligations, credit-default swaps, etc. that contributed to the 2008-2009 financial crisis).
Using the SEC to more meaningfully reform ratings agencies and eliminate the perverse incentive of having the issuer of derivatives pay for their rating (which could lead to risky derivatives being rated as safe).
Using the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, enacted in the wake of the Enron and WorldCom scandals, to more aggressively prosecute and imprison financial executives to ensure individual accountability.
The upshot is that the US has some incredibly powerful laws for regulating the banking industry, both because of Dodd-Frank’s passage and predating it. The question is how aggressively the Biden administration wants to enforce those laws. You can read more in Steele’s story here.
And last but certainly not least. In fact it would have probably the biggest impact.
Redesigning and redefining the Poverty measures used to construct public policy
The Official Poverty Measure (OPM), based on an outdated calculation designed 60 years ago, is absurdly low. Based merely on income, the measure doesn’t take into account geography, the cost of expenses like child care and housing, or noncash benefits like tax credits. Today, the federal poverty threshold for a family of three is $20,578.
If OPM uses a more accurate measure, then less people would fall through the gaps in the system. This would have life altering implications for 60-100 million Americans overnight.

2023.02.03 03:48 ExpensiveWave7230 Feeling a little hopeless about it all

Hey y’all. I’m currently a college student feeling a little hopeless about the state of the world. I’m studying urban/environmental studies and I feel like the more I learn the more hopeless I become. I find myself noticing the issues with every day systems that we rely on to go about our lives CONSTANTLY. Just for the sake of example. we ship blueberries from Peru, which don’t even grow their in the first place, create reliance on foreign entities in their market, are frequently sprayed with chemicals leading to a number of health issues both home and abroad, emit pollutants to be shipped to North America and around the world, etc etc. and that’s just one food in the entire food system! It just feels like we’ve outgrown ourselves as a species and I get this impending sense of doom like the system might all come crashing down. And that’s just the food system…
In addition, I feel like nobody around me really takes any of this seriously, and regularly engage in the egotistical and or passive consumerism that drives this whole damn machine. They go out and buy new clothes when they don’t need it and know better, constantly talk in terms of scarcity and money making and hoarding, which only drives hustle and late stage capitalist culture, which keeps things the way they are. And when they do talk the talk, nobody wants to engage in a meaningful convo about how to walk the walk or actually work on systems change. It all just feels so disheartening, captured probably best by the movie Don’t Look Up (if you haven’t seen it highly recommend). I guess I’m writing this as a bit of a rant and because it makes me feel lost. I hope this resonates.

2023.02.03 03:47 Tinawebmom I feel...... more loved? better? I dunno, something better.

The problem is, fat people are an extremely suboptimal bogeyman, the roots of America's "obesity epidemic" lying largely in systemic poverty and agribusiness, not in those exploited thereby; the problems with America's fucked-up healthcare system stemming entirely from America's preposterous healthcare system, not from the people attempting to survive within it (and use a service they pay tremendous amounts of money for); new research finding that its a sedentary lifestyle, not size, that correlates with increased health risks; and fat people turning out to be people whose lives are impossibly complex snarls of external and internal forces and who do not, in fact, owe you shit. As Kate Harding and Marianne Kirby wrote in their book Lessons from the Fat-O-Sphere, health is not a moral imperative. >However, it is easier to mock and deride individual fat people than fix food deserts, school lunches, corn subsidies, inadequate or nonexistent public transportation, unsafe sidewalks and parks, healthcare, mental healthcare, the minimum wage, and your own insecurities.
Quoted from Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman
With all the crap I've gone through in my life. Doctors denying me surgery until I've lost weight. I'm a nurse. I was on my feet all day 16 hours a day (80+ hours a week). I camped, hiked, roller skated, danced, swam et cetera on my days off. What the absolute duck did they think I could do to lose weight?!
Thanks to the "insurance" (it protects only the profits not my health) denying me care in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 (I know I begged) and having a joke of insurance from 2013-2017 in now fully sedentary. I've felt my muscles turn to fat. Now I've got to work hard to increase muscles because I'm old enough to be a grandma but young enough to want to still enjoy my fun physical activities.
I hope you all learn to love yourself. Wear half tops. Enjoy life. You are so fabulous when it you don't know or don't agree that you are. I promise.

i was just wondering what the hell do everyone's refunds/dues look like because as of right now i owe 2.5k?!? i know i won't find a tax expert on here but i was curious as to everyone else's experience with this, especially because, like i said, it's my first year filing when i've supported myself. can't believe i would owe 2.5k because that's s HUGE dent in my money (it's about a month and a half of living expenses for me).
TIA guys :,)
edit: forgot to mention i’m in butt-fuck america

2023.02.03 03:30 AmazingReaction4807 SIU Fundraiser

For a long time now I've though about doing a fundraiser to help get SIU comfortably working again. it would require a good and trustworthy team at the top that will ensure all fund are donated to SIU. The reasons why I think this could be beneficial:
  1. Maybe his health expenses really are a burden to be continuously fixing your health for years at a time (the time of hiatuses).
  2. For 1 billion views the likes and other interaction are so minimal maybe this is a good way to show his audience truly does care for him
  3. If he's actually under a "slave contract" maybe he's having a hard time financially as it is, therefore he could use proceeds to hire an assistant or two, or if we even raise enough money to get him some top class doctors to be able to keep his health in check regularly. this would allow him to release just like manga, take a few weeks off here and there without losing money or upsetting webtoon!
All in all, I think SIU really deserves a huge thank you from his audience and maybe if all of us just chipped in even a dollar, we could raise money to help get top notch medical care for the man to allow him to live a good life again and enjoy what he does most! I recently spoke with my professor at my university (doctorate MD and bone/joint surgeon) about if rheumatoid arthritis can be helped, and here in america we have the ability to fix it almost completely, or at least make people feel like its retreated for the most part. regardless i think a fundraiser could help in so many ways let me know what you guys think!
