Alex Murdaugh’s colleagues detail his alleged financial crimes to an empty jury box

By Avery G. Wilks, Thad Moore and Jocelyn Grzeszczak - Post & Courier - 2/2/2
WALTERBORO — The chief financial officer of Alex Murdaugh’s former law firm testified at length Feb. 2 about how she discovered the prominent Hampton attorney had secretly stolen vast sums from his legal clients and law partners over the past decade.
Under questioning from a state prosecutor, Jeanne Seckinger detailed the myriad schemes Murdaugh allegedly used to pilfer nearly $9 million from those who trusted him. A dummy bank account. Fake structured settlements. Fraudulent checks and money transfers.
Seckinger’s testimony is an important piece of the state’s murder case against Murdaugh in the killings of his wife and son on June 7, 2021. It remains to be seen, however, whether a Colleton County jury will ever hear about it.
Seckinger delivered her testimony with the jury excused from the room. So did two other witnesses who could speak to Murdaugh’s purported financial crimes: Michael Gunn, principal of an insurance company Murdaugh is accused of impersonating to steal from his clients; and Chris Wilson, a Bamberg attorney who testified he was tricked into helping Murdaugh plunder some $792,000 from his law firm.
Their testimony came during a special hearing — a sort of mock trial — borne out of a protracted dispute between prosecutors and defense attorneys. They have been legally jousting over whether jurors should be told about Murdaugh’s alleged decade-long spree of thefts and betrayal.
The S.C. Attorney General’s Office is calling witnesses and presenting exhibits; Murdaugh’s lawyers are cross-examining them. But they are delivering their case to an audience of one — Judge Clifton Newman.
If Newman sides with prosecutors, these witnesses will return to the stand to repeat their testimony before the jury. If Murdaugh’s team prevails, jurors might never hear from them.

Hounds at the door

Prosecutors hope to show that Murdaugh, 54, was aware his financial crimes were about to be exposed, in part because Seckinger had confronted him on the morning of June 7, 2021, about $792,000 in missing fees from a case he worked with Wilson, the Bamberg attorney.
In an act of calculated desperation, prosecutors say, Murdaugh fatally shot his 52-year-old wife, Maggie, and son Paul, 22, that evening. He hoped to engender sympathy for himself and delay Seckinger’s questions, among inquiries, investigators allege.
Months later, prosecutors said, Murdaugh attempted a similar scheme. Over Labor Day weekend 2021, they claim he organized a bizarre incident in which he was shot in the head and said an unknown assailant had tried to kill him.
“When the hounds are at the door … for Alex Murdaugh, violence happens,” lead prosecutor Creighton Waters told the judge.
His tactic initially worked, Waters said. Seckinger backed off. A hearing scheduled for June 10, 2021 — in which Murdaugh might have been forced to turn over details of his finances — was postponed.
But it all unraveled in September of that year when Seckinger and her coworkers at the Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth, Detrick law firm resumed their probe and uncovered a trail of thefts. All told, Murdaugh has been charged with nearly 100 crimes in the time since.
Murdaugh’s defense team argued Feb. 2 that the alleged financial crimes are irrelevant to the trial at hand — where their client faces two counts of murder.
“It’s all just a theory,” defense attorney Jim Griffin told the judge. “There’s no facts. Their theory is the best way out is for him to murder his wife and son” and put himself in the middle of a homicide investigation?
Griffin said prosecutors want testimony about the financial allegations admitted because they don’t have enough evidence to convict Murdaugh of murder. Instead, they need to smear Murdaugh as a bad guy, he has said.
“They’ve got a whole lot more evidence about financial misconduct than they do about murder,” Griffin argued. “That’s what this is all about.”

Setting the stage

These arguments are not new. The two sides have made and repeated them in legal motions and pretrial hearings. Yet the judge has held off deciding how much — if any — of the financial evidence should be admitted. On Feb. 2, he sent the jury out of the room so he could hear a preview of that aspect of the state’s case.
Seckinger testified that in early September, she was on the verge of discovering a scheme in which Murdaugh allegedly sent millions in client money to a personal bank account. That day, Sept. 2, 2021, Murdaugh’s paralegal moved a folder on his desk and a check from Wilson’s law office slipped out, representing part of the fees Seckinger had been searching for. It was proof, she said, that Murdaugh had been stealing from the firm his great-grandfather founded a century earlier.
Taking the stand for the first time, Chris Wilson said he was misled by Murdaugh, a friend since middle school and his law school roommate.
After a case they worked together, Wilson testified, Murdaugh told him he had received permission from PMPED to put his $792,000 share of the legal fees into annuities. So Wilson sent the money to Murdaugh directly in March 2021, instead of to his law firm as usual.
But as the firm continued to question Murdaugh about the missing fees, Murdaugh reportedly told Wilson he wasn’t able to buy annuities after all. Wilson testified Murdaugh pledged to send the legal fees back so Wilson could send the entire $792,000 to PMPED. Murdaugh then sent Wilson $600,000, money he came up with by taking out loans, and told him the rest was on the way.
Wilson said he agreed to spot Murdaugh $192,000 in the meantime.
On the stand, Wilson said he didn’t see any “red flags” at that point. But in August, after the slayings, he was concerned Murdaugh might try to hurt himself, and he decided he needed documentation of the loan. He wrote a short promissory note on a page of lined notebook paper. Murdaugh signed it.
Less than three weeks later, PMPED told Wilson that Murdaugh had stolen from the firm and from its clients.
Wilson insisted that Murdaugh explain what happened. They met on the porch of Murdaugh’s parents’ home, where Murdaugh told Wilson he had been addicted to painkillers for more than 20 years and admitted to stealing money. “He said he had (expletive) a lot of people up,” Wilson said.
The two did not speak again, Wilson said.

Moving forward

Murdaugh’s trial will remain bifurcated for at least another day.
The financial hearing will resume at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 3, though the jury will not be present.
The judge indicated wants to hear from at least one more financial crime witness before issuing a ruling. That witness, however, isn’t available to testify until Feb. 6.
Though the fight over financial evidence dominated the day, the jury was able to hear witnesses testify specifically about the investigation into the June 2021 slayings.
Dylan Hightower, an investigator with the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, testified about call logs he pulled separately from Murdaugh’s phone and from the telecommunications company Verizon.
When comparing the two records, Hightower testified, all but two of Murdaugh’s 75 calls from the date of the slayings had been deleted from his phone. Hightower said he couldn’t say who deleted them or why. Investigators downloaded the contents of Murdaugh’s phone three days after the slayings.
The state’s 21st and latest witness, State Law Enforcement Division agent Katie McAllister, testified she searched every room of the main home on the Murdaugh’s 1,770-acre hunting property, known as Moselle, on the day after the slayings.
Under cross-examination from defense attorney Dick Harpootlian, she acknowledged she found no blood or bloody clothes in the house that would have indicated the killer cleaned themselves up there afterward.

2023.02.03 04:54 Famous-Reference-103 A very specific model of a laptop (or notebook?) with solutions (for other types of laptops) already posted that doesn't seem to work.

I have an HP-15 dy2193dx, which i looked up on iFixIt and such and nothing turned up for a dix for this specific model. I even looked through here and none of the solutions seem to match exactly what i have but they also somehow had failed to work.
Instead of explaining about all the trouble that led me to writing this and asking for help, Let me explain the issue and as best I can describe. I REALLY apologize if i get confusing or vague; This issue seems to just be really complicated and leading me to different Issues that i just can't understand.
Anyways, here is what's going on:
Just to note, this laptop (notebook? I am sorry if i don't do justice for calling this thing correctly what it is), Had got something spilled on it. I dunno what it is and not sure if its a syrup or whatever as i was away at work til i came home finding my laptop covered on what looked like pineapple and some sticky fluid.
I can only assume it was either an alcoholic drink or something of those apple/pineapple fruit cans. I really dunno what it is, but i only know it got all over my laptop and the screen. I had tried turning it on and nothing was popping up on the screen. I charged but it seems to also just briefly (like i wouldn't say a short bit as the time it's changing is between 1-10 seconds. Very randomly though. The white will show briefly sometimes and then back to orange. Even when pressing the power button. I even followed some of the suggestions on the posts with similar-ish problems and removed the battery. This only made it blink white but not orange.
So i assumed it's my charger. But it wasn't as the charger seems to work for my other family's laptop just fine. This laptop by the way is an official one i bought from a best buy (same place i bought the HP laptop). But then i followed a suggestion to do a self cleaning of the parts and got rid of all the sticky fluids except checking with the keys (Which I assumed was what was under the black cover).
After thoroughly cleaning and carefully putting things back together (though i made a mistake with a few screws...), I tested the suggestions again and it's the same result; Blinking orange and white... Blinking white without the battery. Display not coming on still after all these attempts as well. Mother board is not fried at all and so is the fan and other parts. And battery looks INSANELY healthy. Which is funny as i had expected it to bloat or feel dried up like my Toshiba laptop (which is still alive somehow).
In case this is too much and not alot of time, the TL;DR is:
-Sticky fluids got inside the laptop (i think) like the outside. -Charging port is working but blinking Lights (orange and white when in. White without the battery) -the timing of the flash is random and not consistent. -Battery looks Way to healthy for what had happened to the laptop. -The parts were cleaned and been in contact and had very little or none of the stickyness at all. -the Display throughout has never turned on. -Mother board is also intact and been very healthy as well.
Please let me know if it's something im doing wrong or i am following steps incorrectly. Or if i actually screwed something up without knowing. Any advice or suggestions would honestly be appreciated at this point. Just want to hope its alive and i don't need to pay another $400 to get it again.

2023.02.03 04:21 casfri [N][NA] , a Mythic+ Focused Community pushing keys of all levels 2s-20s+ All Skills, Schedules, and Interests Welcome

Casual Friday

Cross-Faction, Cross-Server

Casual in time, but not approach

What is Casual Friday?

Casual Friday is a WoW community and guild built around group PvE content. Our leaders, Hayword and Jivitz , have roughly a combined 87 years of experience leading groups and guilds in WoW. While we both have deep Mythic raiding experience, we have zero intent to push into Mythic raiding with Casual Friday. As a community, we primarily focus on Mythic+ and are excited with the new progression centered around doing +20 keys. For raiding, our goal is to complete Ahead of the Curve achievements while raiding only one night a week (Wednesday at 8:30 ET). On Friday nights, we host an event called Mythic+ Madness. Details below.
The best part of our group is that we have no expectations for your attendance. Most of our members are in their 30s, so you can expect gaming sometimes takes a back seat to life. We only ask that you be a not-so-terrible human being and let us know if you will not be in attendance or are running late.
When joining, there is no trial process, we want you to play the class and spec you have the most fun as (within reason for group composition), and participating is kind of a "choose your own adventure" book. We host the events, get them posted to Discord, but it's on you to show up and participate in the chatter that goes on throughout the day in Discord.

What does Casual Friday do for Mythic+?

We freaking love Mythic+! We like to push keys up to 20 or higher. We like to introduce M+ to new players. Whether you’re a veteran, never stepped foot in a mythic+ key, or somewhere in between, our community is designed to help you find M+ groups suited to your desired difficulty. Just hop into Discord and type @ mythicplus in the #mythic-plus channel when you are looking to run something and you will likely get a few responses. We have plenty of players who enjoy helping others achieve new milestones and are always welcoming more.
Each Friday night at 9 PM ET, we assemble in Discord as a group of warm bodies brave adventurers. Then we split the facerollers intrepid dungeoners using a Discord bot into Mythic+ groups and run a dungeon. After each dungeon is complete, each keyboard turner audacious swashbuckler reassembles into the event voice channel and we scramble the groups again! It’s a great way to meet people in the guild, especially when there’s conversations to be had while some groups are getting destroyed by doing too high a key work to finish their dungeon.
Outside of our Friday night Mythic+ Madness event, community members are constantly running keys of all levels. We are also drumming up interest for non-Madness events like push nights where we try to run higher keys, learning events if you’re new to a role and want to learn from some more experienced players, and a month(s)-long “Great Push” event where we assemble teams and see how high a key you can run against community members! If you want to host your own M+ event, look no further!

What are Casual Friday's raids like?

Our Heroic raid roster is currently full. We are happy to talk to new candidates, especially if you are an exceptional DPS of the DK, Mage, DH, and Monk variety. We raid on Wednesday nights at 8:30 PM ET. In Dragonflight, we plan to work to complete each raid on normal difficulty and finish the boss skip quest (roughly 4-6 weeks). The next couple weeks, we continue to farm bosses after the skip while also progressing into heroic. After we get deep enough into heroic or the post-skip normal gear is obsolete for our raid group, we dedicate all of our time to completing the heroic raid.
We also just started a new, Normal-only raid on Tuesday nights from 8-10 PM ET. This is a come-one-come-all event for folks of any gear and skill level (within reason).
We are also looking for raid leaders. If you want to lead a raid, or currently lead a raid that is looking for a home, join us and lead a raid and let us do the recruitment for you! Even though we are a Mythic+ community, there is a ton of interest in raiding!

What is Casual Friday looking for?

The key to participating in our community is being flexible. Since we do not have attendance expectations, there could be times where we need a tank or healer, or have too many tanks or healers.
We literally accept anyone. But, some of y’all like to know what is in demand. The below class requests are subject to change, but are based on what our raid and M+ Madness events seem to need:

  1. Mages of any variety. Especially those with the big Arcane brains
  2. Death knights of any variety. You’ve got a death grip on my heart strike!
  3. Demon hunters that go pew pew. If we don’t move, they can’t see us
  4. Monks of any variety. Welcome to the house of the Rising Sun Kick!

I've read enough! How do I join?!

So you've read the post and think Casual Friday is too good to be true, or you're just a glutton for long-winded textual punishment. You can follow these simple steps to success:
  1. Join our Discord by [clicking this link] (https://discord.gg/GAVGYPPRgX).
  2. Read and accept our rules, which are pretty good guidelines to not being terrible human beings. Most importantly, we have no tolerance for toxicity.
  3. Go to the #roles channel to choose your roles, color your Discord name, and click the Jason mask emoji (Friday the 13th) for access to the rest of the server.
  4. Once you have access, introduce yourself in the #welcome channel and post one of your favorite gifs.
  5. Join the WoW community posted in Discord and, if on Area-52 or Stormrage, join the Casual Friday guild. Anyone can invite.
  6. Remember that the community is what you make it, so participation is key. Going through the trouble of reading this post, following all of our instructions, and then not participating in the conversation is not good for anyone.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Hayword or Jivitz at any of the contact methods listed above.

2023.02.03 03:24 AccessControl4004 21M - Hiya! Laying in bed after having dinner and looking for a close friend or anything more is fine too [friendship] [relationship]

Hi lovely people! If a mini essay style post doesn't bore you, please read on!
My name is Dylan and I’m a 21 year old single person from northeastern Illinois in the US. Ever find yourself nice and cozy in bed late at night and feeling rather lonely and wishing you had that special someone to look forward to talking to and hearing from? That person you know is special and who you trust and is like your best friend. Someone you can laugh with and enjoy being around. Someone you can share pics with and just feel yourself with and maybe flirt with as well and form something close and more than friends possibly if we get comfy there. I'm just chilling in bed listening to this really lovely obscure goth/dark wave/post punk song: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WPw7nlluRdc
Well I'm looking for that person! Whether it leads to anything more such as a flirty/casual or serious relationship is definitely a possibility too. I'm fine with people older than me or younger so don't feel like you can't come say hi!
After we get comfy here I'm fine with moving elsewhere if you like. I have discord and snapchat but that's really it. I'm not a social media person really. I don't use TikTok or anything and just have a few things to keep in touch with people.
I live on a small farm house built in the 50s with family and my parents are a little on the older side and thus we don't really get out all that often, so it becomes kind of isolating at times. I figured why not make a post and possibly meet someone great as you never know what life will give you when least expected. I live with my parents, my younger sister, and my cat, Jade!
Physically I'm just shy of 6ft tall, I'm average/slim build, and I'm white/Caucasian with hazel eyes and dark brown hair. I wear glasses too and I'm neatly shaven :)
Now that we've established who I am and what I'm looking for, here are a few interests of mine to get to know me better!
• Fall/Autumn season
I had to list this one because I just adore the fall and everything that comes with it. My birthday is in October too so it's always been my favorite month. I much prefer fall and winter over a muggy humid summer. In the cooler seasons there's always ways to warm up.
• Candles and Incense
I love candles and incense and stuff like this!! I feel like you don't find guys into this stuff that much but I definitely am an exception :D
• Technology
I'm good at fixing electronics and I'm quite nerdy in that aspect. So if something breaks I can fix it ;) I'm also good with my hands and quite inclined mechanically and quite the nerd :P
• Music
I love genres such as classic rock, alternative rock, psychedelic rock, gothic rock, heavy metal, punk, post punk, hardcore, etc. My current favorite bands are The Cure and Joy Division/New Order. But I like tons of older and newer bands as well. such as: Bauhaus, Velvet Underground, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Type O Negative, Lebanon Hanover, Nirvana, Rush, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, the Wipers, Spacemen 3, Meshuggah, Megadeth, Buzzcocks, MC5, Stooges, 13th Floor Elevators, Screaming Trees, Green Day, Alice in Chains, Asylum Party, My Bloody Valentine, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Jefferson Airplane, etc.
• Cooking and Baking
I like to cook and learn new recipes, as well as bake fun things too! It's always nice when the house feels nice and cozy and smells good. I appreciate the simple pleasures in life, a cozy cup of tea and music or a movie in bed or sitting outside is so nice! I believe in veganism and I've been trying to become more vegan lately in what I eat.
• Animals
I love animals of all types, and I currently have an older cat which I adore to death! We rescued her from the local shelter. She's the sweetest thing. (I think I love her more than anyone in the house lol, she just makes me so happy) :) I also don't kill insects or bugs, I catch and release them outside.
• Art
I enjoy art, both creating it from time to time such as drawing, and admiring other peoples work. There's just something so fun about it and seeing things so beautiful.
• Houseplants
I love houseplants and really anything nature related and also spiritual such as crystals and rocks. I love to help my mom in caring for all of our plants and also gardening outside when its a good growing season. Its fun! I also like cottage core and goblin core type vibes and enjoy sitting out on the deck burning incense, its peaceful :)
• Cozy video games
I'm not a hardcore gamer really, but I enjoy simple and fun cozy relaxing games such as Stardew valley and Minecraft. :)
• Photography
I recently got a DSLR camera, a Nikon D5500 and a D200 and I've really been enjoying taking photos of my cat and nature landscapes! This includes closeups, photos of trees, the fields, etc. I've been working a lot on composition, long exposures, getting nice blurred backgrounds, depth of field, etc. It's interesting to me.
• Urbex
Haven't been able to explore anything yet, but I like to watch videos of abandoned asylums and places like that as well as dead malls and things. The Proper People, Exploration Unknown, Sal, and Dan Bell are a few of my favorite urbex type of YT people. I'm a definite believer in the paranormal as I've had a first hand account with a spirit before in my own house!
I won't ever discriminate over anything. I will always be upmost respectful and honest to a potential partner. I am non judgmental and always honest in my feelings.
Thank you for checking out my post and if I seemed to catch your interest I'd love to hear from you soon!

2023.02.03 03:02 Particular-Neck-7213 Feeling like a bad substitute teacher

Hi folks,
I'm a substitute teacher in a school district in the rural West. I have no background as an educator, and while my experience has broadly been positive, I've been feeling really down on myself about my performance as a sub recently. I am leaving subbing for more stable work outside of education in a couple weeks, but my final sub assignment has been helping a middle school French teacher for a couple weeks while she's out. I have moderate French language abilities, although I have 0 experience with foreign language pedagogy and it is not my background besides 5 years of high school and college level french. I've worked in this middle school a lot and know many of the students by name (I'm not a building sub though), so in that respect, going into this class hasn't been that difficult. I have rapport with them already. However, the sub plans the teacher has left me are really not great (just handwritten notes with very little detail). I've done my best to teach the students what I can, but many are struggling with basic grammar, sentence structure, etc. I've really tried to motivate them but it is not easy. I also can sometimes have a difficult time holding boundaries with the students, although I am getting better. Sometimes I get concerned that the teachers are judging me for my permissive tendencies, or that I'm making their jobs more difficult. Many students do not come to class prepared, and I've let them go to their lockers to get computers, notebooks, etc. It's a little frustrating that they don't just bring all this stuff with them. I am also working with some difficult students, which has complicated things.
I've read a lot of posts that say good subs are the authoritarian ones who aren't afraid to come down on students. I am quite the opposite, honestly. I try to build relationships where I can while making expectations at least somewhat clear. I've only had like one REALLY bad class in my time subbing. Some of the teachers and staff have told me that the students love me, but I don't know if that's because I'm permissive in my classroom management or if it's genuine. This is a hard job and while I will miss the kids (they are just hilarious sometimes), I know I need stability, too. In a perfect world, I think I'd really like actual teaching, but it's just so much right now. I know subbing is different but even still I'm just exhausted by it. Sorry for the rant. Think I just need to commiserate with folks who get it.

I’m bad at writing this stuff, but damn if the AI didn’t make it sooooo much easier! Put in a few details, add her favorite author, best memory, etc. I’ll rewrite the results myself on nice stationary. I’ll let you know on 2/15 how it went.

2023.02.03 01:40 swiftz132 DVD player not properly connecting to my TV

alright forgive me as im a gen Z who isn't used to composite cables, but I've tried every possible pin combination and the only way I can get this DVD player to work is in black and white, which is somehow more impressive than it not working at all.
We've got an old DVD player that's hooked up to a different TV usually, which it has always worked fine with. I tried to hook it up to the equally old TV in my bedroom, and of course I put the red, yellow, and white pins in the red, yellow, and white holes, but nothing. The red and the white are in the correct places, but the yellow one is what's screwing me up. When it's plugged into the yellow hole on the TV, nothing, but when it's plugged into the blue one it shows up but in black and white. And yes, I've tried moving the pins on the dvd player itself, too, I've tried every possible combination and this is the best I can get. And like I said, this player works fine with our other TV, and this TV works fine when it's hooked up to my computer via HDMI, so Im truly lost here. I just want to watch some movies man. please help. the TV is an Emerson and the player a Pioneer if that's of any use.

2023.02.03 01:15 MoJoHusband An idea for acceptance and closure

I've been struggling A LOT with truly believing my marriage is over. It just won't reconcile in my mind and feels.
As I was thinking about it last night, I had this thought about a chapter in my life ending. It gave me some sudden relief (though I wasn't entirely better).
As I thought about the analogy, which is quite common, I remembered that our minds have an innate need for closure. We often struggle to heal from things because there was no satisfactory ending. That's why ART (accelerated resolution therapy), as well as some versions of IFS (internal family systems), are such great therapies. They both include reanactment or visualization of an event or emotion where the person creates an ending.
I was then able to see in my mind how past events and times in my life that are behind me really are like chapters that have had an ending. My elementary school years, my high school years, my dumb-ass 20s, etc. They are all part of moving my plot along, but those times and who I was then have ended and are behind me. I thought to myself, if I can see my marriage as just another chapter, part of my story as a whole, that has ended, I can start to find closure. I plan to visualize this as best I can, and do it in therapy as well (my therapist does ART). I may even take a multi-section notebook and label chapters, filling in only the last line (including this chapter), close it up, and put it away. Maybe even among my books.
I don't really have a question, but this whole concept made me feel like I could actually feel better. That I can possibly find relief. Maybe even move on with my life. Because of that, I wanted to share it in the hopes that it will help someone else.

2023.02.03 00:31 jojofromtokyo I Asked ChatGPT to write me an essay proving Zenyatta is the best support.

Prompt: Write me a 5-paragraph opinion essay about why Zenyatta is the best support character in overwatch 2
Response:
Introduction:
Overwatch 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular team-based shooter, Overwatch, has many new and improved characters to play as. One of the most popular and beloved characters from the original game, Zenyatta, has returned with new abilities and improved gameplay. In this essay, I will argue that Zenyatta is the best support character in Overwatch 2.
Body Paragraph One:
Zenyatta's unique abilities make him an indispensable asset to any team. His primary weapon, the orbs of harmony, allow him to heal his teammates and increase their damage output, making him an essential part of any team composition. Additionally, his orbs of discord can be used to apply pressure to the enemy team and make them more vulnerable to attack. This versatility in both healing and damage dealing sets Zenyatta apart from other support characters in the game.
Body Paragraph Two:
Another aspect that makes Zenyatta stand out is his mobility. Unlike other support characters who are often limited in their movement, Zenyatta has the ability to fly, making him more difficult to target and allowing him to reach areas that other characters cannot. This mobility, combined with his ability to shoot while flying, makes him a formidable opponent and a valuable asset to any team.
Body Paragraph Three:
Zenyatta's ultimate ability, Transcendence, is also a game-changer. This ability allows him to heal all allies within a large area for a short period of time, making him an essential character for securing a team's survival during crucial moments in the game. This ability, combined with his healing and damage abilities, makes him a must-have character in any team composition.
Body Paragraph Four:
In addition to his gameplay abilities, Zenyatta's design and appearance are also standout features. His unique appearance, with his floating orbs and serene demeanor, sets him apart from the other characters in the game. Additionally, his lore and backstory add to his appeal, making him a fan favorite among players.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, Zenyatta is the best support character in Overwatch 2. With his unique abilities, mobility, and game-changing ultimate, combined with his appealing design and backstory, he stands out as the top support character in the game. Whether you are a seasoned player or a newcomer to Overwatch 2, Zenyatta is a character that should not be overlooked and is sure to bring success to any team he is a part of.

2023.02.03 00:11 stuwbgn16 Traditional Lab vs. CEREC Crowns? What are my options, and what should I be asking the dentist?

Hi all,
I have been trying to get the advice of several dentists on what to do next. I fractured my tooth and realized I may need a crown. I have had composite resin fillings, CEREC porcelain onlays and inlays, but never a crown.
What options do I have? I see there is a debate versus CEREC Crown vs traditional lab-based crown.
Aside from cost and time, is there truly a difference in operator error, skill differences in milling the blocks used for crowns? The tooth is #18 so back lower left molar.
What questions should I be asking the dentist(s) and what do you guys recommend as the "best" type of crown material?

2023.02.02 23:28 Incogyeetus How to Get Ready for Engineering Degree?

Trades to Engineering
I’m currently an HVAC tech with about 4 years experience. I’m 21 now and have been thinking about switching gears to study mechanical engineering while I’m still young. I didn’t take any advanced science or math classes in high school and had a 24 composite act (can’t remember specific category scores). My question is this; what is the best way for me to prepare for those classes having not taken those advanced classes when in high school and how good are my chances of being accepted into a decent college with such a low (imo) act score. I did fairly well in high school I had a 3.5+ gpa but was mainly focused on HVAC. Also I’m working full time and wondered if it is possible with what I’ve been told is a difficult major to somehow structure my coursework where I’ll have time to do both.

2023.02.02 22:48 mathdude3 Very bad feathering with Baystate Blue on 68gsm Tomoe River

So I recently picked up some Goulet notebooks with 68gsm Tomoe River. I liked the 52gsm version a lot so I figured I'd give the 68gsm a try. One issue I've found is that Baystate Blue ink in particular feathers a ton on this paper and I can't seem to figure out why. It works perfectly on 52gsm TR and pretty much every other fountain pen paper I have except for this one (some minor feathering on Rhodia, but nothing too bad). On the 68gsm TR it feathers even worse than on standard cheap lined paper. Anyone know why this might be? Here's an album with some samples of different paper:
https://imgur.com/a/gg9wBV0
You can really see it if you zoom in. I haven't tested a huge number of inks on it, but so far it seems like just Baystate Blue that feathers. There must be some significant difference in composition between 68gsm and 52gsm TR because the difference in feathering is huge. 52gsm has the least feathering of any paper I tested and 68gsm has the most.

2023.02.02 22:47 frogcannon34 Norsca's Roster

I've played a few Norsca Campaigns and in all of them I basically used the same army compositions. Normally 2 Shaman Sorcerers, 1 Skin Wolf Werekin, Marauder Champions (some with great weapons) as a front-line, Marauder Horsemasters for skirmishing, then War Mammoths for serious damage.
I'm just wondering how to best utilize the rest of their roster? I know the Frost Trolls work well with Throgg, but Fimir Warriors seem to fill the same role yet aren't as useful due to price. Skin Wolves just seem like monstrous skirmishers but Horsemen seem more efficient. Same with the Ice wolves and Chariots. The Hunters just seem pointless once you get Horsemen. The Mammoth War Shrine doesn't seem to really benefit the army compared to just another War Mammoth. Giants and Frost Wyrms just cannot compare to War Mammoths at all.
I've never used the Fimir Balefiends but since they don't get mounts they can't move across the battlefield as quickly as Shamans. Plus I just find Lore of Metal to be better than Lore of Shadows and both get Lore of Fire.
I'm just wondering if I'm not seeing those other units full potential or if they really aren't all that useful.

Chapter 21
Shards of the Aori
Leon was sitting in the mess hall, his attention completely occupied by the food in front of him. Natalia was already working with Joice and Myung on the hydroponics and so he sat alone today. This in itself however was not a detriment to his mood, he was feeling rather satisfied with the manner in which the last few days had progressed.
Leon took another bite of his breakfast and looked up. He was alone in the dining hall, the three large tables otherwise empty and the room quiet. Most of the crew had already come and gone, he himself had already done some work this morning which attributed to his late meal. The UNSS Leif Erikson had departed the system where they had discovered the ruined alien station just two days ago. They were now tearing through space at a modest three hundred times the speed of light, the feat still incredible to think about even after over six hundred and thirty days out in the depths of space. They had traveled farther than any human had any right to, but they were far from finished on their mission. In fact, they had barely even started. The mission had been planned to take over twenty years in total, covering thousands of light years and visiting hundreds of systems.
The fact that life seemed to be even more abundant than their wildest speculations could have hoped was also a source of constant awe and shock to him. They had seen massive oceanic microbiota as well as complex life on a variety of different worlds. Then there were the glimmer Drorns, those strange living bubbles they had found so early on. They had not seen them again so far and he wasn't entirely convinced there were more to be found. Surely such incredible life could only occur once? But then again, intelligent life hadn't, like many had previously thought.
Leon took another bite of his meal, savoring the food as he thought about just how incredible the last two years of his life had been. He had gone from not knowing if aliens existed, to being one of the first people to find confirmed evidence of intelligent life. Well, the cold remnants that intelligent life had left behind at least. But still, the fact that life had happened more than once was virtually a guarantee that it had probably happened even more. The thought of discovering living sentient aliens both excited and terrified him to his core. What if they were ruthless killers, or saw Humanity as nothing but resources to be exploited. Or what if they were so incomprehensibly alien that they could not interact on some fundamental level? Would he be able to cope with such a failure? He didn't know, and that was probably for the best.
He leaned back and sighed as the worries that had accumulated in his mind over the past few days made themselves heard once more. It was deeply troubling to him, the fact that the station had been so strangely deserted. He couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible had happened there, and not in the recent past either. There was the fact of the damage to the station, not all of it looked natural in origin. Some of the marks had the look of weapons fire to his military eye.
Potential ancient tragedies aside, they still had no clue what they were dealing with. Until they were able to decipher the strange alien text or crack the memory banks on the extracted data cores, they were still lost in the abyss about who or what had built the structure.
Leon was leaning towards some ancient alien race that had long gone extinct, why else would they not have come across more evidence of their presence. Surely they wouldn't leave such valuable hardware drifting unprotected in space like that if they were still around?
Thoughts and questions plagued his mind, the who and why were superseded by the ultimate question in his mind. When. When had they built the station, when had they left it? When had they last graced the plane of the living with their works of science and architecture? Well he knew a sure fire way to find out, but not till Taylor, Chad and Sabine cracked the data cores.
The three were probably some of the brightest people that Earth had to offer in the scenario, but it was still a herculean task. He decided to go and check up on them, maybe they had been making better progress than he was envisioning.
Leon finished his breakfast and placed the dish in the proper receptacle before making his way out into the curving hall of the ship. The spinning of the habitat rings created the illusion of gravity at about seventy percent the strength of Earth. While it wasn't much, it was enough to form a sense of normalcy and to keep their muscles from atrophying entirely. That combined with the hour or two of mandatory physical exercise that they did every day meant that everyone on the ship was as fit and healthy as it was possible to be.
The habitat area he was in was located on the third ring of the Leif Erikson, the main research area was on the first. In order to get there he would have to take a ladder to the core and then scoot over to the first ring. Leon’s soft soled shoes made slight padding sounds as he strode to one of the access ladders that acted as the spokes of the huge spinning wheels. They connected the ship’s non rotating core to the spinning habitat rings and were the primary means of transport between them. The long fourty meter ladders had originally been the bane of his existence on the ship, but regular exercise combined with frequent use had strengthened his body to the point that they hardly phased him anymore. He started to climb, the feeling of weightlessness slowly creeping up upon him till he was effortlessly pulling himself the last few meters.
He entered into the spine of the ship, the complex system of gyroscopics and bearings that assisted the rings in turning were hidden from view. While the ship's core was a little more than twenty meters in diameter, the inside was only about five meters on average. The rest of the space was taken by life support conduits and water systems as well as electrical and heat. There were a great many things that had to be maintained to keep such a fragile system like the Lief Erikson operating correctly. One major malfunction and it might be game over without a second opinion.
Moving quickly along the wall handholds to the access hatch of the first ring, he proceeded up the shaft, gravity becoming more pronounced as he climbed till he was feeling the tug of the rotating rings towards his destination. He descended the last few meters quickly and hit the ground feet first after having flipped his orientation along the way.
Leon looked around quickly, it seemed he was on the right side of the ring. The rings themselves were like huge one hundred and twenty meter wide stations in themselves. The floor ahead and behind him seemed to curve gently up into the ceiling, but he knew that if he were to follow that curve it would never end. He would just end up right where he had started off from in the first place. Casting thoughts of rings aside, he began walking down the hall, the padding on the floor combining with the soft rubber soles of his shoes to make his passage nearly soundless. He soon came upon the research wing and walked to the open door of the lab.
Leon took a peek inside and smiled as he saw three figures hunched intently over a piece of hardware. It looked like some mix between a microscope and a computer server but was likely neither.
Taylor, Chad and Sabine were all gathered together in a huddle, something appearing to excite them as he could hear murmurs of muted conversation. Leon sidled up towards them, not trying to be quiet but clearly not grabbing their attention as they remained fixed on the screens they were hunched over. Suddenly he did hear something that gave him pause.
“What did you just say Sabine?” he asked, a little apprehensive of what he had just heard.
“Waahhh!” Chad shouted which only furthered the small panic he had caused.
Sabine jerked as if stung and looked around frantically before her eyes settled on him. She at least had the sense of self to look a bit worried. Meanwhile beside her Taylor did a full one eighty as he reacted to Leon’s sudden appearance.
Sabine breathed out heavily and just said “Oh. Hello Leon. we were just..”
But he cut her off. Leon asked her again “What did you just say? Did I really hear you are using Henry’s cognition drivers?” before she could respond another voice issued from a speaker on the device in front of him making Sabine wince slightly and him step back apace.
“Yes indeed Captain. My complex rational thinking has been instrumental in solving their problems.” a smooth synthetic voice said with an inhumanly measured tone.
“Okay, that’s not… Henry, confidentiality setting, initiate.” Leon said commandingly. The computer did not respond, but he knew that it was now blind and deaf as to their conversation. It would only return when given hard approval with a code. A code that he had no intention of activating anytime soon.
Before he could continue his verbal rampage to the three younger people sharing the room, Sabine stood straight with her hands on her hips. “Hey! What was that for? Henry was acting under orders, not at all by themself.”
Leon just shook his head and turned around before swiping his hands over his face. Turning around once more he asked “Sabine. Are you familiar with the Jupiter Incident?”
She looked around at the others and said more slowly. “Well, yeah. But I don't see…” she started but Leon waved a hand to silence her. Chad and Taylor looked at each other and then at him, but he stayed silent for another moment as he gathered his thoughts.
He had been born in 2287 AD, and the Jupiter incident had happened three years before he had been born. But at the time of his youth it had still been a fresh enough wound in Humanities pride that it had been talked about religiously. It had instilled in him a strong impartiality from thinking machines. A mild distaste that bordered on distrust of artificial intelligences and the like. While Henry wasn't exactly an artificial intelligence level thinking machine, the limiters and logic inhibitors that were in place throughout their system were there specifically to keep them that way. And the three in front of him had just been discussing disabling the connection limiters on Henry’s system like they had no worries on the matter.
“Okay. What do you know?” was all Leon said in response after the pause.
Sabine paused, a rare moment of silence from the otherwise confident young woman. This wasn't her area of expertise and it showed. “Well. What they taught us in school is that a computer malfunction caused the deaths of half the crew of the Spirit of Gaia.” she trailed off a bit as she noticed the troubled look on his face.
Leon looked at Taylor “That's what they told you in school? A malfunction?” Taylor gave a small nod and Leon shook his head again. What were they teaching kids in school? Next he would be hearing from them that the collapse had been a miscalculation by the environment and not the explicit result of nuclear armageddon.
“Well, they might have mentioned some stuff about the ship’s computer going rogue too.” Taylor piped up.
Chad nodded and Leon sighed. “Well, the truth of the matter is a lot more complex than that. It was a mix of design flaw and a heavy dose of user error. The moral of the story is more clear however. Thinking machines are dangerous, and unless we do our utmost to keep them contained, they will act against our best interests.” Sabine opened her mouth to speak but then closed it right after. “It's not that they are inherently evil, by no means. They are however not human, and as such don't feel human emotions like grief or rage in the same manner we would. You just don't know what could be the move that sets one off. It's like fire, it's a useful tool, but you play with it or let it get out of hand, and you get burned. Maybe even die.”
Chad asked “We weren't going to open the limiters all the way though. Just enough to get the job done.”
Sabine seemed to be in thought and didn't respond but Taylor asked “I think that's the point though Chad. How much is too much? Will we know before it's too late and something potentially catastrophic happens.”
Leon nodded and asked “So. We are all on the same page, correct? No feeding the fire right?”
Taylor and Chad nodded, after a moment Sabine made a small noise and nodded too.
“Okay.” Leon said, a bit happier now that they seemed to understand why he had been so wary of their direction. “Now that that’s over with, let's hear this progress you made. I am excited to see what you three accomplished, I am assuming that you did make progress right?”
Chad looked around the stark room as he asked, Leon glanced around as well. The research room was oriented outwards like the rest of the rings, with the floor actually facing away from the core of the ship. As it was the first ring, there were small armoured windows set along the forward side of the room. The other side faced the hallway and thus had unarmoured plexiglass windows showing the hall outside.
Only the forward side of the first and trailing side of the sixth ring had windows that showed the depths of space, the only other locations where one could gaze into that vast emptiness was the bridge and observation deck.
Realising that Sabine was talking to Taylor quietly and that he had allowed himself to become distracted he spoke up “What's that?” speaking of nothing in particular.
Sabine looked at him and then stepped forwards, motioning to the machine next to them. “Well. We were using Henry to run a decoding algorithm for us but I’m assuming you are going to want us to finish it up the slow way.”
“The safe way.” Leon quipped back.
Sabine just raised a single eyebrow at him while continuing “Uh huh. Anyways, before you stopped us, we had already managed to decode enough to figure out what these are.” she motioned to the data cores that they had jury rigged interfaces for. They looked like small tubes that had ports on both ends. Through a manner of trial and error and using some of the detailed photos that Taylor had snapped from the station walk, they seemed to have been able to access the contents of the data cores.
Leon stood there dumbly for a second before he realised that they were waiting on him to ask. “Oh, what are they then?” he said quickly, his excitement overcoming his annoyance at their lack of safety protocol.
Taylor spoke up this time as Sabine looked towards him. “Well, at first we thought that they were some sort of abstract mathematical theorem, the numbers and symbols didn't make a lot of sense. Then we caught references to an old supernova event that is well documented as a planetary nebula. Well, the truth is we aren't sure of anything at this point. But these look like they are full of navigational data.” Leon gave him a bit of a blank look, the information not fully understood. Taylor said “Star Charts.”
Chad and Sabine seemed to be incredibly excited by the prospect, but Leon frowned. Star charts? What happened to the station though, the history of their people. Surely they had something about who had built the strange orbital habitat.
“Star charts. What about the station? Do we know anything about who built it?” Leon asked them.
Taylor leaned forwards and fiddled with the machine a bit as Sabine responded excitedly “Oh! We do have a little, actually come here, you will love this…” she stopped mid sentence and zipped over to the other side of the small room.
Leon followed along with Chad as Taylor worked on the translation engine. The other side of the room had a row of low desks and computer consoles connected together into a small server. This would allow anyone doing work to research multiple angles of a problem at one time. At the moment the screens seemed to be filled mostly with mathematical data, the likes of which he couldn't parse.
Sabine was already there, tapping away at one of the terminals. Leon could see a few windows opening up and some being minimised, finally she seemed to get to a branch that she followed for a bit and then moved to the side. She motioned for him to take a look at the screen which he promptly did.
What he saw wasn't the alien language he was expecting, but instead a typed document describing their findings. “What is this?” he asked her as he started to read.
Sabine leaned back in her chair a bit as she began proudly. “This is the history of the Aori Unionized Republic Research Vessel, the two and a half kilometer station was called the March of Wisdom in their language as near as we can tell. It might be a little rough in the translation department, but we know it was a purely scientific vessel.”
Leon nodded in slight wonder at this new information, but then a phrase stuck out to him. “Wait, did you say vessel? You meant station surely?”
This time it was Chad who spoke. “She spoke correctly, the March is actually fully… Well, was fully capable of movement in both space and warp. It looks like they liked to zip it around to get closer looks at different cosmic phenomena. It seems pretty practical if you think about it. Why look from a distance when you can just bring the lab to the star right?” Chad said with a small chuckle.
Leon looked from the younger man to the console and then back at Sabine. “It was fully warp capable?” he asked again. “Do we know what its top speed was? Was it faster than the Leif Erikson?” he asked.
Sabine frowned, her brows furrowing into a scowl as she turned to the document again. “No. we don't know. The data cores we grabbed seem to contain cultural and research information, not engineering data.” she said a bit dejectedly. Leon smiled slightly, she sounded like a child who had just gotten socks for christmas instead of the shiny new toy they had wanted. Sure the cores were useful, and nice to have. But nothing like what she had been hoping for.
Leon waved a hand and asked “It's not what’s important here. I am more interested in the people that built the station. Do we know much about them?”
Chad nodded as Sabine perked up “Yeah. We actually have some pictures of them that we were able to decode from the cores with Henry’s help.” she paused a second and glanced at him, then continued “Well. What we know is that they were pretty similar to us in terms of how they thought. They had culture, music, and such things. We know that they were omnivores and had blue blood similar to cephalopods on Earth. Copper based I mean. They seem to have been warm blooded as well but that's up to debate still as their temperatures seem a little too high. But that could of course just be the result of their own unique evolution.”
Leon watched as she talked, going over the documents as quickly as he could before she switched them off the screen to be replaced with another. There seemed to be an absolute wealth of information in the data cores. Suddenly he drew back, his eyes being assaulted with an image of the alien for the first time. It was hard to describe.
“That… is one of them?” Leon asked a bit dumbly.
Chad nodded as Sabine chuckled “A bit different huh? I mean, they are aliens after all, so why would they look like what you would expect?” she said.
On the screen was what looked to his eyes like a Squid given scales and a coat. The alien in question looked slim, their body dividing into four tentacles that seemed to end in small hooves. They didn't look slimy, their skin having the distinct patterning and coloration of small scales across its surface. Looking at its face he was reminded of old artwork of dinosaurs. A beak for a mouth in the center of a face that looked wholly inhuman. Three red eyes looked back at him in a triangular formation over a small bump that could have been a nose of sorts. The thing had no ears and its shoulders were less distinct than a Human’s would have been. Instead its arms were similarly tentacle-like and ended in four fleshy tendrils that seem to serve the same purpose as fingers, although with a degree of flexibility that his own fingers would have been incapable of.
He blinked, they didn't look scary per se. But he would be damned if he didnt find the creature a bit on the repulsive side. Something about the impossible nature of its boneless structure.
“They are a bit… Different.” he stated simply.
Chad laughed “They are at that huh. First time I saw that picture I about fell out of my chair. They certainly don't look like anything from Earth. Look at their eyes too, they look so… menacing.” the man finished.
Sabine nodded and added “Yes, but they were obviously very intelligent. I mean, look at what they accomplished.” She pulled up another document. Leon leaned close as she opened a large file that seemed to be a series of numbers and letters strung together.
“What are these?” he asked, they looked familiar but he couldn't quite specify the reason that they made such a fuzzy connection spark in his mind.
Chad motioned to the screen and said excitedly “Oh those, those are just a list of stellar coordinates. All of them are labeled as inhabitable and potentially even colonised systems. You know, nothing to worry or be interested in.” he said with a huge grin.
Leon’s eyes widened at that, there were dozens of systems on the screen, all of them potentially inhabited in the past. Maybe some of them even holding ancient ruins. Ruins they could explore without the threat of a random coronal mass ejection wiping them out. This was big, potentially even bigger than their original discovery had been. Not only did they have direct and explicit evidence of intelligence other than their own, he had the potentiality to find some of that life still living somewhere. As he thought about it however another thought crossed his mind.
“Hang on, do we know how old this data is? That station was clearly ancient beyond reckoning. Do we have any idea what happened?” Leon asked Sabine as she turned back to the screen in front of her. Her chair creaked slightly as she leaned forwards and squinted at the list of documents she had.
She moved through some of the data and then seemed to pull back a bit as she replied “Um, yeah. And no. We have a minor clue as to what happened, the station seems to have been purposefully abandoned by the Aori Unionized Republic due to something they refer to as, the Ruiners. But that's all the information we have on it so far. Sorry Leon”
Chad coughed a bit and then said “Well. It's a lot more than we had initially. We know two things for sure. The Aori abandoned the station on purpose, and they were under attack from a hostile alien race they called the Ruiners. So we can deduce that they must have been at war. And maybe they were losing. They don't seem to be a militaristic race. The March had battle damage on it, signs of conflict at the very least.” Chad pointed out in a matter of fact manner.
Leon nodded. It lined up with his own personal thoughts. The multiple damaged bulkheads they had observed looked more like the effects of forced entry than accidental environmental damage. The station on the inside had the eerie stillness of a hastily abandoned home, something he had seen too much of during his peacekeeping years.
“Well. then that explains where they went and who they were. Do you have a time frame?” Leon asked nobody in particular as he looked closer at the documents.
Taylor called from across the small room. “We have extrapolated the potential time period of the astronomical data using the stellar drift of known pulsars. We have narrowed it down to as little as one hundred and fifty thousand to two hundred thousand years old.” he said with a nod to the machine next to him.
Leon blinked at that. Over one hundred thousand years? He had been prepared for him to say something like twenty or thirty thousand, not that mind boggling sum. “Woah. That’s incredible.” he said under his breath.
These Aori seemed to have been very advanced, far more so than Humanity at least. With all their technology and experience, they had been wiped out by some hostile race they called the Ruiners. Were these cosmic horrors still around? Could they be after such an incredible time period? He found himself worrying about the possibility of encountering such a dark and malevolent force. Surely such a power would be able to crush them as if they were nothing, their anti asteroid weapons notwithstanding.
Leon looked at the data and said, pointing at the screen. “So, knowing the rough estimate of time that has passed, we could figure out the relative locations that these stars would be now, right?”
Sabine smiled and nodded. “Yes, in fact we were already working on that when you walked in. We have decoded the current location of this star system here in fact.” She said, pointing to one of the closer stars on the map. “It was listed as inhabited in the records. It’s possible that the planet could still be inhabited.” she said with more confidence for the idea than Leon was feeling.
He looked at the chart. The star in question was a young yellow sun similar in size and composition to Sol, with an inhabited inner system of planets it seemed. This would be a remarkable find even if the ruins remained as silent as the station.
“It’s almost ninety three light years away, that's pretty close all things considered. It's going to take us over one hundred days to make it there though. Do we have a visual of what the system looks like now?” Leon asked curiously.
Chad motioned to the screen he had been standing next to, it showed a faint bluish light superimposed over a fuzzier background of lights. A telescope image from the Lief Erikson’s observatory.
“This was taken before we left the station’s system, it's fuzzy due to the radiation interference from the red giant, but you can clearly see there is a star there.” Chad said while zooming into the faint dot.
Leon nodded as Sabine spoke “I guess we could drop out of warp to make some additional observations of it. That seems like it would be a good idea to me.” He gave her a nod as well and thought for a minute.
Leon spoke “Taylor, you and Terry can get a solid reading on the system if we were to stop for a bit right?” Taylor gave a nod and Leon continued “Alright. Then that's the new plan. I am going to run it by Joice and Samuel to make sure they agree, but I see no downsides to this. We might find a whole lot more than a single abandoned station there. But I'm not going to jinx it. Okay.” he said with a long pause as if waiting for a response.
Nobody else seemed to have anything to add and so he straightened and turned slightly to leave. “Keep up the good work, but leave Henry out of it please. They are running very close to the edge of their limiters already, it wouldn't take much more of a stretch to break them and cause an issue.”
Chad nodded severely and Sabine grumbled a bit before nodding as well. Leon smiled and waved to them as he left the room, the three going back to their work.
It had been a productive trip to be sure, and the wealth of information they had gathered from the station would already have made them famous beyond comparison back on Earth. The fact that they had discovered not only signs of intelligence, but received artifacts as well. The good they could do with this new information was beyond imagining.
Leon smiled widely, not even the dull constant ache in his chest could detract from his good mood. He walked along the gently curving floor of the ring with a new spring in his step, confident in the future of their mission like never before. Even as they had launched he had been skeptical they would find anything of note. But already they had made discoveries beyond his most ardent hopes and wishes. As he began to climb the ladder he laughed out loud, his good mood demanding he share the news with the others as soon as possible.

January 2023 empties!
I'm still trying to figure out the format for this kind of posts.
2023 is going to be a no/low buy year for me.I'm reducing consumption of the new products, but increasing consumption of the products I already have!
Overview of the items I have used so far:
https://preview.redd.it/i4m7894h0ufa1.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96078bd0c259d95c8f5f1de52770d576fcc42d17
CANDLES 1:
1. DIY Candle
2. DIY Candle
3. DIY Candle
--- Price: $0
--- Date of Purchase: I made them in the end of November 2022
--- Thoughts: These are not really $0, because I purchased Soy Wax, Jars and Wicks. I didn't like how they came out. The flame was low, they tunneled very bad and had small to no throw. I should've used 2 wicks and added more fragrance. Unfortunately I have another 15 made already...
4. WoodWick Trilogy - Fireside Redwood Sandalwood Clove
--- Price: $19.88 (Walmart online)
--- Date of Purchase: Nov 11 2020
--- Thoughts: I like these candles. Nice crackling sound, clean burn. I bit pricey. The throw is okay (perhaps, my candle was too old)
--- Repurchase: yes, if under $20
5. WoodWick - Flickering Fireside Poplar & Pine Teakwood
--- Price: $19 (BB&B)
--- Date of Purchase: Unknown
--- Thoughts: I liked it, no complaints. The flame is a bit too large and looked dangerous even after I'd trim the wick
--- Repurchase: yes, if under $15
https://preview.redd.it/bit27h4k0ufa1.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fd7dae401ca31f2f160606ce67f7c4b522497e6
CANDLES 2:
1. Leoben - Peppermint Twist
--- Price: $7.99 (TJMaxx)
--- Date of Purchase: Nov 2022
--- Thoughts: The smell was unexpectedly nice. It does smell like Peppermint sweet bon-bons! The throw was strong considering the size of the candle. I am not sure if I screwed up the first burn, but I did have the tunneling issue with that candle - I was able to fix it with foil/torch and spooning the wax out. Lasted maybe 10 evenings, which is good considering the size.
--- Repurchase: yes, I liked it and it has a unique scent
2. Leoben - Vanilla Noel
--- Price: $7.99 (TJMaxx)
--- Date of Purchase: Nov 2022
--- Thoughts: Clean burn without issues (unlike the peppermint one). There is nothing unique about the scent though - it has a typical sweet vanilla cookie-ish fragrance. The throw wasn't strong enough to be present when burning this one together with the Peppermint Twist (the latter would outpower it). Lasted around 10 evenings
--- Repurchase: 50/50. The price was good, the burn was nice. It's just wasn't unique enough
3. Homesick - Ski Trip
--- Price: $9.99 (HomeGoods)
--- Date of Purchase: Nov 2022
--- Thoughts: Clean burn without issues. Strong throw. The scent felt of the high quality (it smells like fireplace/amber). I feel like this candle burned out too quickly though
--- Repurchase: probably yes (at this price point)
4. Market Candle Collection - Bonfire Nights
--- Price: $14.99 (HomeGoods)
--- Date of Purchase: Dec 2022
--- Thoughts: Large jar, 3 wicks. Had some small tunneling issues that would get fixed on their own after very long burns. Good throw, lasted pretty long
--- Repurchase: I would definitely try to find other scents from this brand if the price is under $20
https://preview.redd.it/mfxnenjn0ufa1.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a631b5aebbe553fb3f8ceb5ebcb8b18a53b8a60
BODY CARE:
1. OleHenriksen - Wonderfeel Double Cleanser
--- Price: $16.99 (TJMaxx online)
--- Date of Purchase: Feb 4 2022
--- Thoughts: I hated this sooooo much and couldn't wait to finish it. I kept it in the downstairs bathroom and only used it at night. I tend to have shiny oily skin with clogged pores. I was fooled by the name 'Double Cleanser' thinking it would be strong as that orange Neutrogena. But in the winter I do prefer the more mild face wash that moisturizes skin. This one felt like washing my face with hand cream - it would leave film/oily residue on my face and on the sink. It didn't remove mascara. I had to follow it with Clinique lotion for oily skin and eye lid cleanser, otherwise I just felt like dirty and sweaty panda
--- Repurchase: Absolutely not
2. Eva-Nyc Lazy Jane Air Dry Shampoo
--- Price: $6.99 or $7.99 (TJMaxx)
--- Date of Purchase: Aug 2022
--- Thoughts: Husband's shampoo. He has shortish bob length fine hair. Never heard any complaints from him and his hair looked good. This tiny bottle lasted 6 month
--- Repurchase: Yes
3. Jurlique - Restoring Shower Gel - Lemon, Geranium & Clary Sage
--- Price: $12.99 (TJMaxx online)
--- Date of Purchase: Sep 15 2021
--- Thoughts: Smells lovely and lathers very good
--- Repurchase: Would try in other scents if under $15
4. Pacha Soap Co - Unknown Scent (smelled like lipstick in a way)
--- Price: around $5 I think, sold per Oz (Whole Foods)
--- Date of Purchase: Sep 2022
--- Thoughts: Smells okay, lasted only few washes
--- Repurchase: Doesn't worth the price imo
https://preview.redd.it/699kenoq0ufa1.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3131fbe59ba0fe12997223603822d5e33e67688
FACE:
1 Mesomatrix - Revital Express Gel Mask (not sold in the US)
--- Price: free sampler
--- Date of Purchase: May 2022
--- Thoughts: Didn't notice any effect
--- Repurchase: Wouldn't buy the large version
2. Dr.Jart+ - Ceramidin Facial Barrier Sheet Mask
--- Price: $2.60 each (TJMaxx online, sold in 5pk)
--- Date of Purchase: Jul 9 2020
--- Thoughts: Nourishing. I don't think it does anything to my skin, to be honest
--- Repurchase: No
3. EcoTools - eyeshadow applicators
--- Price: unknown (TJMaxx or Marshalls)
--- Date of Purchase: Unknown, probably 2018
--- Thoughts: I liked them. I found them during my skincare purge. They've dried out and turned into rocks.
--- Repurchase: Yes
4. Julep - Lid Armour - eyeshadow base
--- Price: $4.99 (Marshalls online)
--- Date of Purchase: Aug 23 2020
--- Thoughts: I didn't like it and used only few times. I found it in a drawer during my skincare purge - it dried out completely
--- Repurchase: No
https://preview.redd.it/j746jsqt0ufa1.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5769f7ea1be443c6a2282e7718203bf2f413a687
HEALTH:
1. Curad - Eye Patch
--- Price: $2.72 for 20 (Amazon)
--- Date of Purchase: Nov 21 2022
--- Thoughts: I patch one of my eyes at night to keep it closed (I have dry eyes). Good price, but I had a few issues keeping it stuck and in place. Sometimes it would fall off by the morning
--- Repurchase: Maybe, but I'm exploring different options now (like silicone tapes)
2. Nature's Bounty - Valerian Root
--- Price: Unknown
--- Date of Purchase: Unknown
--- Thoughts: Husband's
--- Repurchase: Yes
3. Trader Joe's - Hand Sanitizer Spray - Grapefruit & Lemon
--- Price: $2.99 (Trader Joe's)
--- Date of Purchase: Unknown
--- Thoughts: Does the job well, may be a bit too drying in winter
--- Repurchase: Yes
4. Supplements - Misc
--- Price: varies, unknown
--- Date of Purchase: Unknown
--- Thoughts: Honestly, I don't know if they work. I didn't notice Genius Mushrooms's effect, perhaps, I wasn't consistent taking it.
--- Repurchase: Yes for GABA & B-12. I would consider getting another nootropic instead of Genius Mushrooms
https://preview.redd.it/g4w3thew0ufa1.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8980a5c7c4df1063de68210387031dfa45351712

--- Thoughts: One of my all time favorites
--- Repurchase: Definitely yes
4. AirWick - Metered Spray Refill - Warm Apple Crumble
--- Price: $6.66 (Amazon)
--- Date of Purchase: Aug 24 2021
--- Thoughts: The scent is nice but very weak even in really small bathroom
--- Repurchase: No, too weak
https://preview.redd.it/cq1iswez0ufa1.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=087a9289c38dee9b1482f9be56b82c50b6162ae1
STATIONARY:
1&2. Economix - Gel Pens Black and Blue (not sold in the US)
--- Price: Unknown, probably around $0.50 each
--- Date of Purchase: Unknown, probably 2017
--- Thoughts: One of my favorite pens. Very ergonomic design. Line is thin but smooth.
--- Repurchase: Definitely yes, if I'd get a chance.
3. Muji - Grid Notebook Refill - 50 sheets
--- Price: $2.90 (Muji)
--- Date of Purchase: Oct or Nov 2022
--- Thoughts: I like these. So far one of the best notebooks I had. The price is good too.
--- Repurchase: Definitely yes
  1. Pilot - Black 0.38 Gel Pen
--- Price: Unknown
--- Date of Purchase: Unknown
--- Thoughts: I absolutely hate this one (And I have one more in 0.38 point + one in 1.0 point. I'd use 0.38 for the sake of already having it, but will give 1.0 away). While it gives out a thin line, the pen itself is very thick and uncomfortable to hold. It almost felt like holding a thick pipe with my fingers
--- Repurchase: Never
https://preview.redd.it/duswuz141ufa1.jpg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=460e5ec668e56f0998164106a85a85df399cadcb
PERFUME:
1. Atelier Cologne - Orange Sanguine
--- Price: $2.43 Sampler
--- Date of Purchase: Nov 2022 (TJMaxx)
--- Thoughts: Lovely happy orange scent. This brand is notorious for its weak performance, but I feel like this particular one stayed long enough.
--- Repurchase: I may've considered to purchase the large bottle, but I have too many full-sized perfumes to last me a lifetime
2. Burberry - Her
--- Price: free sampler (Macy's)
--- Date of Purchase: Apr 9 2022
--- Thoughts: I liked it. It smells vibrant and fresh, very young-female profile. I tend to like more complex perfumes though. This one has typical pink juice scent. Very safe choice.

2023.02.02 21:29 1ttyaked [A4F] (roleplay & chat prompt: incest & raceplay) Black mother and daughter

Emily is a new undergraduate this fall. She's nervous and excited, as you might expect, for all the new experiences she's sure to have in college. She's a young black girl, slim and pretty. Her parents are both black, both college-educated. Her mother's name is Maya.
The first thing Emily notices socially in school is the allure of the fraternity and sorority scene. Its exclusivity, its intensity, and, somewhat stressfully for Emily, its racial composition and rule-following. There's a black frat and a black sorority, but they aren't included in the 'mainstream' fraternity scene. They're, well, segregated. Or that's the word Emily finds for them. In the first few weeks of being on campus, she tags along with her friends to a handful of parties at the main fraternity houses, mostly keeping away from the black ones. She doesn't really know why this is, but chalks it up internally to the white fraternities throwing better parties, and sticks that set of feelings in an internal drawer she doesn't open up often.
The first major event of her school year takes place at one of those parties at one of those white fraternities. Her friends hear some mysterious buzz about this one, more excitement, and they all dress up specially for this party, Emily included. When they arrive, she mingles with her new friends, says hi, takes some drinks. She's found by one of the host fraternity members, brief hug, "Hi, I'm Emily", and is escorted in an odd way upstairs. He holds her hand and guides her down the halls. She's brought into a dark room. She can hear it once the door closes behind her -- the sounds of girls being fucked.
Emily's eyes adjust slowly to the low light. All the girls are black, in various states of undress and distress. Some have their hands tied together, some have something in their mouth, some are free of restraint and bouncing up and down of their own accord. All moan, squirm, some cry. In a few moments, Emily joins the group. Gangfucked.
But this isn't quite the focus of my prompt just yet. The focus is on the way Emily processes (or fails to process) this experience, and how she brings it to her mother.
Emily is dazed the next day, and the following days. Her night was a fluid, intense mixture of rape, drug-induced haze, euphoria, and lost time. She wakes up early in the morning naked, in a small pile of young black girls. None of the fraternity members or erstwhile partiers remain. She moves around limbs and hair and finds enough of her clothes to walk back across campus back to her dorm to sleep and shower.
Emily still has time before the semester takes off seriously, so she isn't panicked about school yet. But she struggles to connect with her experience, rationalize it, or feel for herself. Some of her feelings are made more intense: her mild distaste for the black organizations on campus becomes more pronounced, and she finds it harder to be around other black girls especially.
She wants to talk to her mom, too. She misses her, but even more, Emily wants to tell her about the party. She wants to exhale, tell her she barely remembers some of it, can't come to grips. And to tell her what she does remember -- that the spitroasting felt the best, and how alive and on-fire her skin turned when she heard them call her a nigger. About the time she fingered herself in bed just repeating the word over and over again: nigger. About the outfit she wore to the next party she attended at that frat, the special matching underwear she wore, even though no one did anything to her all night, and she went home disappointed.
And most of all, she wants to tell her mom about the thing that's most been on her mind. Something she heard in class on the first day, just a phrase she plucked out of context, rolled around on her tongue, played with incessantly since she first heard it. Well, not since she first heard it -- Emily had heard this phrase, this idea, before. But only once since the party, since things started changing for her. What Emily really wanted to talk to her mom about was something she didn't know what to think of yet, didn't understand why it turned her so hot and lush. She wants to talk to her mom about white supremacy.
