2019.06.15 22:32 connors53 dogboarding

Dogboarding/Skatejoring, is the urban version of skijoring, where a dog is used to pull you over snow. Dogboarding can be done with any kind of setup such as skateboards, longboards, and even mountain boards for those looking to go cross-country. It is very similar to cani-cross and can be quite demanding for your dog, therefore it's recommended to use a harness. You must not let your dog pull with a neck collar! This is a very relaxed sub and any content related to dogboarding is allowed.

2023.02.03 05:11 Spin-82 Fi series 3 stopped working

We owned a series 2 for 2 years with minimal problems. We “upgraded” to the series 3 and have had nothing but problems. Now one of our collars has been blinking green for over 2 weeks and fi doesn’t want to respond. It took multiple complaints on social media to get a response. Now they need to “troubleshoot” before getting me a working collar. No it’s not going to update, or do anything you want because it won’t connect to ANYTHING. Currently it’s a useless desk weight. We are using one of our kids Jiobit trackers on our dog and it’s way more accurate and responsive.

2023.02.03 04:41 Violet_Warlock612 Idea for a relatively less cringeworthy crossover AU

Olathepic, the indie RPG where little girls come to die
Fifty years ago in Eagleland, a great white fracture tore across the sky, as if a glass dome over the galaxy had been pierced with a knife.
All at once, humanity found themselves in possession of supernatural powers of all varieties, but not all were equal.
A scientist made a metric by which powers were judged for their excellence, and thus the human race was divided between the Patricians and the Plebeians.
In a place called Olathe, there was a great riot of so-called Plebeians, and this became so violent, and so successful, that a detachment of Patricians from the government itself came and sealed all the Plebeian men of Olathe under a mountain.
The scientist, who was among them, learned that he could create spells that were incredibly strong if they were limited by conditions, so he sealed them underground with a ward that only the spirits of seven females of any age could break.
Not all Plebeians were necessarily weaker than the Patricians, as the test required that one must have both great power and fine manipulations of it, or especially unique abilities, so some sealed underground were incredibly strong. It is known that greater power equates to slower aging, so the strongest back then will probably still be alive now.
Since then, the government has thrown down a steady supply of junk food, booze, drugs and porno mags to keep them sated and keep the figurehead of Plebeian rebellion from coming back.
You, the daughter of that scientist, ran away because he's an asshole. You then fell down a hole in the mountain that everyone was sealed under.
Survive.
Featuring:
  1. Buzzo, the angst-ridden child stalker (Later Photoshop Buzzo, when he merges with the deceased spirit of Lisa after she devours the six contained girl spirits)
  2. Bradley, the momentary father figure who's too depressed and drunk to keep you from escaping but can still kick Buzzo's ass in his base state
  3. Cheese legs, a dog Brad has you kill in order to toughen you up.
  4. Terry, who replaces Napstablook but doesn't actually attack you.
  5. Rando, a guy who has been having an extended tea party with little girls, but whose appearance makes people assume he's killing them (also his soldiers have a tendency to kill them while capture them but Rando has necromantic powers that allows him to bring them back as ghosts)
  6. Nern, now wearing a blue parka, and a surrogate brother to Shocklord or Terry
  7. Shocklord or Terry in place of Papyrus
  8. Clint Moss, like Undyne but human and not a lesbian
  9. Lanks, the kind of terrible scientist, since the correlation between one's powers and one's personality and knowledge seems to have made it that most actual scientists and white-collar workers are considered Patricians. Never actually graduated high school. Spends most of his time as Hawk Hollywood' manager.
  10. Hawk Hollywood, a scary rockstar who has turned over 1,300 men gay and 3 little girls into paste.
  11. Bernard, grimdark god of super-angst, fusion of Buzzo, Lisa and everyone else underground but Brad because he hates Brad
  12. Lisa, who either fuses with Buzzo at the end or guides you through killing every man underground, consuming the six girls and returning to the surface to kill Dr. Yado. She also permanently merges with you midway through a Genocide run when Mr. Angonelli jumps out at you and cuts you, taking you over in that moment of weakness to strike him so hard his upper body explodes and his head is launched into a wall.

2023.02.03 03:35 OddRequirement6828 Flea, tick and heart worm control- what do you use for your trail dog?

For those that have trail dogs in areas where there are ticks and such, what prevention do you use? I live alone and spoil my Mal allowing him unfettered access to the house - he spends a lot of time next to me and we cuddle a lot. Therefore I avoid the collars and topicals and use the oral Rx Simparica Trio. Recently I learned they are not that safe neurologically for dogs. We spend a lot of time each week on the trails and prior to putting him on the meds, I found myself removing at least one tick from his ears each week. Never had issues with the other parasites but hard to tell what the potential around SoCal for those infections.
Recommendations?

2023.02.03 03:09 OpulentStone Bad dog owners strike again...

Was eating dinner with a few people in this hall, we all know each other.
Guy comes in with his 6 month old "xl bully" whatever that is (an excuse to have a pitbull I'm sure). Walks in and asks if it's OK that he brought his dog. That's the first problem - guy should ask before he just turns up with a dog.
Furthermore, he knows a lady in our group has a crippling phobia of dogs. She even says "don't bring it anywhere near me" as he arrives.
In fairness we've set up a large array of tables, so he sits across the room and keeps the dog on a leash. But it's still at a table
After we eat I'm chatting with the owner and greet/pet the dog because of course it gets excited. While I like animals I am quite sensitive to loud noises. As it starts playfully barking I let the owner know I have a problem with loud noises:
I got cut off at the end by more barking and conversation.
Anyway this dog just can't keep still. Repeatedly bumping in to the table jostling shit around. It's annoying as hell.
End of the evening approaches and while we're saying goodbyes I go to stroke the dog again. This time it tries to bite me immediately. I move my arm out of the way just in time but it grabbed my hoodie and won't let go. The owner pulls him by the collar with all his strength just to get the dog (this MASSIVE 6 MONTH OLD "PUPPY") to let go. My hoodie is ruined and if that damned shitdemon got my wrist it'd probably end up being put down.
I'm extremely uncomfortable with what has happened and this moron doesn't even acknowlege anything bad happened. Dumbarse.

2023.02.03 02:43 TheOneAndOnlyFen WIBTA if I gave my neighbour a bark collar for her dog?

My neighbours dog constantly barks when outside. She lets him out often, once every half hour, sometimes more. Barks at the gate as soon as he's let out. People, dogs, kids, leaves. Doesn't matter, he's always barking. He does not do his business every time, or Id have other concerns than his barking. We have the misfortune of having our backyards facing a pretty busy pathway. He's a 3 year old mini golden doodle. Landlord has been notified. She's had bylaw at her door. Multiple neighbours have called because of the constant noise, so shes well aware of the barking being a nuisance. They take pity because she's older and disabled. My dog (12 yr old terrier mutt, who is the bestest boy ever) doesn't like going outside because of the barking. He will do his business then rush back inside when the neighbours dog starts rudely barking. I can't sit in my own backyard, after not having one for 14 years, because he's barking at me non stop. My dog rarely barks and when he does its one time to let me know I'm a dumbass for not letting him in immediately when he gets to the door.
I would like to help her calm him down but unsure how to proceed as I don't want to be rude. She is a nice lady but I think she's just in over her head and didn't do research before getting a dog. I know there is a stigma with bark collars but the one I have is just noise and vibration and I tried it on myself, annoying at best. I would not give her a shock collar.
So, WIBTA if I slipped a bark collar into her mailbox so my dog and I might have some peace and quiet? (Might because its not guaranteed to actually work)
Sorry if this was all over the place. Hard to organise my thoughts with all the barking. He was let out 4 times during me writing this (yes, literally 4 times in an hour).
Edit: Thank you everyone for confirming that I WBTA. I thought as much and needed confirmation from strangers I guess. I'll find a different way to deal with the situation.

4-year-old dog named Lilo has reunited with her owner this week after a Tennessee animal center shared a post about the German shepherd-Great Pyrenees mix on Facebook.

2023.02.03 01:04 Tight_Dragonfruit375 Am I just overreacting or do I have a reason to be upset?

Hey y’all, I’m 18 and my bf is 19. I moved in with him March of 2022 on my 18th birthday bc of family issues. His parents were totally cool
Today my boyfriend was on his way to school and I had gotten a call from him saying that he is stuck on the side of the road because his truck just shut off. He told me to bring a gas can and those reader tools you hook up and they throw codes. (His parents sleep all day mind you so they wouldn’t have been any help if he would’ve called them) I told my bf that I didn’t know if I’d get in trouble for taking his moms car bc recently they’ve been shady. Any other time they didn’t care. my bf just basically said I didn’t have a choice bc he was stuck on the side of the road. Well I went with everything he told me. I messaged his mom before I even left and told her what was going on. I got to my bf and he got his gas and what not and he decided to just not go to school bc it was pointless. It was 11am by the time he got everything figured out. We were on our way back home and apparently his dad woke up bitching saying like “how would you like it if we just took your car” and blah blah blah and mind you, you can’t wake his parents up bc they’ll literally get all mean. We got back to the house and his dad just started throwing comments at me and I just walked into my bedroom and my bf left. Fast forward 4 hours later I took my dog out. He has a shock collar incase he goes out of the yard or something like that. The shock collar literally stopped working and his dad was getting in the car getting ready to leave while my dog was just on the loose. His dad knows not to go anywhere till I have my dog bc he will chase the car. His dad completely ignored the fact and ofc my dog ran after the car. His dad proceeded to spit out “WELL WHY THE FUCK IS HE STILL OUTSIDE THEN!!!” And other nasty things to me and just kept going while I WAS LITERALLY TRYING TO GET MY DOG WHICH IN RETURN CAUSED MY DOG TO KEEP GOING. He made my dog run off and didn’t bother to help me at all. Just left and I couldn’t find my dog. I started bawling my eyes out and hyperventilating, shaking even bc he yelled at me over something that was not my fault by any means. I called my bf bawling telling him what just happened. His dad has treated me like shit all day and that was just the cherry on top.. (both his parents have been treating me like straight crap for the past couple weeks and I just don’t understand why. I stay to myself and everything. Idk was I overreacting? His dad has dropped very nasty rude things about me for no reason also the past month and a half.

2023.02.03 01:03 Particular-Focus242 Why does he set my dog off?

SO my dog is, to put it simply, just cracked out his mind at ALL times. BUT he is SO sweet AND behaved when just with me (mom). HOWEVER when my boyfriend is around his energy skyrockets and he starts misbehaving and being a bit aggressive. My boyfriend doesn’t do anything specific or bad. His training is the same as me. He just plays hard with him which he loves but he doesn’t shut it off when dad is done.
He is a 8 month old Golden Retriever. NOW with all that being said, all day he is mouthing like crazy and he does not have an ounce of bite inhabitation. Then when dad is home he wont listen to me x100 either so bad combo.
Current situation: -When we take him to other dogs he’s actually very submissive and does not try to bite (whether play or not), use his mouth or lunge. He’s actually nervous around them. So them teaching him his bite has been somewhat impossible. -We thought it might be overstimulation/arousal so we neutered him it didnt help -We tested days where we walk him for an hour each and take him on adventures and then we tried days we didn’t walk him at all to compare the mouthing. NEITHER budged him a bit. Both scenarios still results in mouthing and bitting. It is consistent and hard/skin breaking. -We have trained any type of training/simulating you can think of. This includes actual training classes where he acted like a show dog and the trainer deduced he was a very good dog (he didn’t show his true personality when he had the treats distracting him LOL). This also includes collar pressure/holding, treat in fist and giving it to him when he licks/kisses and then not giving it when he tries to bite, treats for when he jumps or puts his arm on me and redirecting him of and rewarding, bite redirection to toys, yelping, raw hide, bones, have tried casual training sessions for 10-30 minutes just to focus his attention, I have tried puzzle games, kongs, ignoring him, walking away, time outs, kennel, baby gates, and its consistent efforts. It may deter him for a few minutes but hes back to throwing himself on us and bitting/mouthing.
I am DESPERATE to figure this out. I know hes young but his bite is HARD and he has shed blood many times. It is also very overwhelming to be his chew toy. I worry if he holds this habit he will harm someone or our cats as he gets bigger. He did have a bit of resource guarding (real bad ER visits) but we fixed it with trading and rewarding when around his food and him not reacting etc. So thats good. But I just dont know if this linked to that aggressive-esq behavior or if hes jealous of us together or if he wants attn etc.
Please help. We want to keep him and be good dog parents. Its new to us and were out of ideas.

2023.02.03 00:49 THEGUILDWARS Ready to give up on my dog.

About a year ago I adopted a german shepherd mix, about a year old at the time, from our local dog pound. He was very vocal and very very very rambunctious which was a major warning sign that I ignored because I have a fair sized fenced in backyard and was prepared to exercise him as needed and he was/is adorable. After he settled in I reached out to local trainers and he spent 3 weeks there working on behavior, commands, e collar training, socializing with other dogs, potty training, all that good stuff. I've done my best to keep up with the training he recieved and the advice I was given by the trainer. None of it works.
Before I go into the bad behavior I will say he is not a mean dog, he loves people, gets along great with other dogs and my cats tolerate him.
The Bad: He jumps the 5ft fencing around the yard, he barely listens to commands, he thinks it's a game to jump on me while I'm sitting and when I correct it he barks and continues to push back testing his limits. Worst of all if he sees a neighbor, hears a noise or if I or someone else is leaving my home in a vehicle he jumps onto the furntiure, slams himself/paws against the windows while barking/jumping/growling. This happens multiple times a day; today he saw my neighbor and instantly jumped at the window. As I was trying to get him to stop he shattered my living room window. Luckily he only has minor cuts/scratches on his pawns with barely any bleeding. My couch and living room were covered in glass.
Some things I have tried: moving furniture away from windows, attempting to take his attention elsewhere with treats, chews, toys and working on commands during it, e-collar training from the time he went into training and at home, different types of curtains to block his view, exericising him more (he now has his own treadmill for the times I just don't have the energy to go for a long walk, bringing him back to trainer and working with him together a couple of times a week. He is fairly well crate trained so when I know I or someone else will be leaving I have him go to his crate in a seperate room before anyone even makes their way to the door.
His behavior has not changed at all and after him breaking my window today I'm to the point where I am ready to start looking into rehoming him to someone who I know can keep up with him and is prepared to tackle this behavior.

For me Valentine's Day has always been a little of a bittersweet reminder of him since he passed long ago. Let me send you a cute dog card with an envelope (note: some envelopes are decorated with glitter washi; not loose) I lovingly decorated and will fill out while thinking of my baby.
There are 4 cards available. I'll leave this offer up for a bit. If there are more than 4 people interested, I'll choose at random. If you're receiving a card from my last offer, please leave this one for others, thank you.
Available:
Red
Pink (pawprints have black glitter)
Yellow (dog collar has glitter)
Blue
To claim: Leave a comment below sharing a memory about your own sweet doggie that makes you smile, or what your favorite dog breed is, if you don't have one. And indicate your first and second preference card (I listed them by the main card color). It's not a guarantee that you'll receive your card of choice, but I'll do my best.
The nitty gritty: Please be flaired (envelope next to your name), and have posted a recent thank you. Please do not message me. I'll reach out to those selected requesting their mailing info, and they'll have 24 hours to claim (if no response is received within that timeframe, I'll choose a new recipient). 2023.02.03 00:18 Puzzlehead-Pisces2 27 years ago on January 31st 1996, thirteen year old Rachel Mellon Skemp vanished after spending the day home alone with her stepfather. She has not been seen or heard from since.

Rachel Marie Mellon Skemp was born on October 13th, 1982 to parents Amy and Jeff Skemp in Melrose Park, Illinois. At the age of 3, her parents divorced; her mother remained living in Bolingbrook, Illinois while her father relocated to Dallas, Texas. In 1985, Amy began a relationship with a man by the name of Vincent Mellon. Vince moved in with Amy and Rachel and together the couple had two children: Jason in 1988 and Ashley in 1990. They all lived on 612 Melissa Drive in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
Rachel was a bubbly and bright young girl, always smiling in spite of her unstable home life. In 1990, Vince pushed Amy down a flight of stairs during an argument, prompting her to file a restraining order with the police. She later dropped the order and reconciled. The police were periodically called to their home for domestic violence, and there was one instance where Vince angrily threatened both Amy and Rachel. In the spring of 1995, Rachel ran away from home, citing that she was afraid that she would be blamed for something that her siblings did. She slept outside of one of her friends' house and the next day called her step-grandparents to take her home. In the summer of 1995, Rachel went to spend one month with her father Jeff in Dallas, Texas. While there, she begged her Uncle to help her move to Texas, believing that she would be better off in the custody of her father than with her mother. Rachel returned to Bolingbrook later that summer. The last day that Jeff heard from his daughter Rachel was on December 25th, 1995.
By the fall of 1995, Rachel was a cheerful and smart 7th grader at B.J. Ward Middle School where she'd been an honor student. She excelled in reading and writing and was popular at school, described as being silly, joyful and with an amazing sense of humor. Rachel had a best friend, Carrie, whom she remained close to until the time of her disappearance. She was passionate about recycling and the environment and had taken up an interest in music, dancing and singing. She babysat children in the neighborhood and aspired to one day become a teacher.
On January 30th, 1996, a day before her disappearance, Rachel was seen crying by her locker which was extremely uncharacteristic of the usual upbeat and happy teen. She told her friends that she had been feeling unwell and had a problem which she would "take care of" herself.
The following day, January 31st 1996, was a day of strange circumstances. 13 year old Rachel decided to stay home from school that day due to a sore throat. Accompanying her at home was her unemployed stepfather, Vince, and their German Shepard, Duke. January 31st was a particularly frigid day; -20 degrees Fahrenheit and snowy with gusty high winds. At 10:45am, Rachel, wearing a pink sweatshirt with yellow pants and red slippers, phoned her paternal grandmother Lucy Skemp to thank her for the Christmas gifts she'd sent. Lucy stated that the phone call lasted about 5 minutes and towards the end of the phone call Rachel got very quiet. Her grandmother asked, “Is he there?” referring to Vincent, and Rachel replied, “Yes,” before stating she had to go. According to Vince, after the phone call ended he and Rachel played Nintendo for roughly an hour or so before she returned to her bedroom to take a nap. He states that the last time he saw her she was in her bed "wrapped in a blue blanket".
At 2:30pm with Rachel still napping, Vince claims that he stepped out to take the family dog Duke out for a walk. He left the front door unlocked. During the 30 minute walk, Vince claims that Duke slipped out of his collar and began chasing a rabbit in a nearby field. Vince then left the dog, believing that he'd find his way back to the family residence, and returned home at roughly 3:00pm. He claims that he did not check on Rachel when he returned home. At 3:15pm, Rachel's younger half-sibling Ashley returned home from school, noticing that Rachel was not home. A real estate agent who saw Duke running up and down the street recognized that the dog had belonged to the Mellon-Skemp residence and returned the dog between 4:30pm and 5:00pm. It was not until 5:00pm when Amy and her son Jason got home that the Bolingbrook police were called.
When the police arrived hours later and searched Rachel's room they were stunned to discover that her coat, shoes, wallet, purse and Walkman were all still in her room during such a brutally cold snowstorm. Her blue blanket that she'd slept in was missing as well as the two pillows she had on her bed. Police checked the door and found no signs of forced entry. They questioned Vince about the multiple scratches and cuts that were on his arm, to which he replied that he was doing car work earlier during the day. An extensive search of the area was done on ground, air and water using geothermal images and drones, but still no sign of Rachel turned up. Her bank account had been untouched and the airports were checked to make sure that she hadn't ran away to Dallas to be with her father. Still, no sign of Rachel.
A notable item that was uncovered during the police raid was Rachel's diary which contained a haunting entry from August of 1995 in which she described how her stepfather Vince came into her room and began kissing her and touching her inappropriately in order to warn her about "how predators behave" and what characteristics she should look out for to be safe. They also uncovered an out of print book which deals with father-daughter incest as well as a steak knife stashed underneath Rachel's pillow.
At 6:00pm, Rachel's 13 year old best friend Carrie along with 4 other friends trekked around the neighborhood in the cold, wet snow calling out for Rachel. They spent an hour outside with their flashlights checking the local park and going up and down the streets until it had became completely dark outside. Carrie states that at that point they had all huddled together and began crying, realizing that there was no sign of their friend. Jeff Skemp, Rachel's father, had received a telephone call from his father stating that Rachel had gone missing from her home. Jeff quit his job in Dallas and moved to Bolingbrook Illinois, hoping to aid in the search of his daughter. When he went to the Mellon-Skemp residence he went into Rachel's room and laid down on her bed in disbelief of what had happened to his daughter. He put on her Walkman and the song "Hand in My Pocket" by Alanis Morrissette had begun playing. He smiled as he remember that Rachel stated during her visit to his house last year that Hand in My Pocket was her favorite song and that she was now listening to alternative rock instead of her usual pop music. Jeff cites that while at the Mellon-Skemp residence, he confronted Vince about what happened to Rachel, to which Vince replied "someone must've snatched her while I was out walking the dog". Jeff has kept the same phone number since 1996 in hopes that one day Rachel will call him. The case had gone ice cold, with no sign of Rachel and no leads or tips in the case.
In January of 2000, four years after Rachel's disappearance, a grand jury obtained a warrant to receive Vince's DNA samples. On January 29th, the cops picked up Vince from his home and held him for nine hours at the Bolingbrook police station. During that time, Vince pled the 5th Amendment when questioned over what happened on the day Rachel disappeared. He then surrendered samples of his blood, saliva and hair as part of a first-degree murder investigation. He also took at least one lie detector test, which he failed. Amy was also questioned by police down at the Bolingbrook police station, but maintained her theory that her husband was innocent and that she believed Rachel was still alive. She passed a lie detector test and since then both Amy and her husband Vince have refused to cooperate with law enforcement regarding Rachel's disappearance. Amy and Vince also refuse to hold any memorials in memory of Rachel and do not make any efforts to bring awareness to her case. The grand jury investigation ended in 2000 without any indictments handed down.
Amy states that she got rid of all of Rachel's belongings and donated it to a Goodwill in 2000. That same year, the Mellon family relocated to Joliet, Illinois. Amy, Vince and their two children moved to Tennessee sometime in the mid-2000's and Vince has since then had numerous run-ins with the law, including domestic violence charges for fighting his son as well as drunk driving charges. In May of 2002, the city of Bolingbrook planted a tree and plaque at a park right across the street from Rachel's house in her memory. Bolingbrook PD has stated that they believe without a doubt that Vince killed Rachel, but they cannot prosecute him due to a lack of evidence.
Rachel's father Jeff and her best friend Carrie continue to bring awareness to Rachel's strange disappearance. In 2021 Rachel's friend, Carrie, wrote:
"25 years....I can't wrap my head around it. How is this possible? I feel like I say this every single year, but 25? January 31st will be that long since you just vanished. This date will forever be the day that changed me. It will forever be the day that I have had to learn to live without answers. Live with questions and doubt. Live life raising my own kids without you. I pray so hard constantly for answers. For closure. For the doubt to go away. And for you to be brought justice. Rachel, you are forever in my heart! 2023.02.03 00:15 koogums Loose Dog On 20th / White Lab

I just spotted a loose dog running down Astoria Blvd. Followed after it all the way down to 20th Ave and 31st. I ended up losing him due to the lights.
White lab, medium size, had a collar. Very fast and skittish. Sorry, I didn't get a picture.
Update @5:25: Reported it to 311 but they need another call before doing anything. I ran down to the park, which is the direction it was running in, and haven't spotted it.

2023.02.03 00:09 ScaryTerryBiiitch Looking for collar with hidden airtag holder

Hi everyone, I know this may be a long shot but I am looking for a certain dog collar I saw on Instagram reels a couple months ago. The collar was home made by the guy and very high quality with a hidden pocket for an airtag to be inserted into. I believe he may have been selling them on Etsy but I had no luck finding it. I would imagine that he was also posting on TikTok so hopefully someone follows him and can lead me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

2023.02.02 22:54 Puzzlehead-Pisces2 On January 31st 1996, thirteen year old Rachel Mellon Skemp vanished after spending the day home alone with her stepfather.

She was popular at school, described as being jubilant, joyful and with an amazing sense of humor. Rachel had a best friend, Carrie, whom she remained close to until the time of her disappearance. She was passionate about recycling and the environment and had taken up an interest in music, dancing and singing. She babysat children in the neighborhood and aspired to one day become a teacher.
On January 30th, 1996, a day before her disappearance, Rachel was seen crying by her locker, which was extremely uncharacteristic of the usual upbeat and happy teen.
At 2:30pm, with Rachel still napping, Vince claims that he, during a -20 degree blizzard, took the family dog Duke out for a walk.
They also uncovered a steak knife stashed underneath Rachel's pillow.
Amy states that she got rid of all of Rachel's belongings and donated it to a Goodwill in 2001. She, Vince and their two children moved to Tennessee sometime in the mid-2000's. Vince has since then had run-ins with the law, including domestic violence charges for fighting his son as well as drunk driving charges.
I can still hear your voice when I see pictures. I can still remember your smile that lit up a room. I can still remember how smart and beautiful you were inside and out! Raku/Pit fire/Wood fire/Barrel burn - Wanting to achieve a semi-specific look & build a mini-kiln for this project
I took ceramics in college. It was my favorite class by far. I took it two or three times, actually. There was one time that we had a "Raku-BQ" (like BBQ) and we made some small handbuilt pots and put into a little wood burning cube. I can't recall the rest... but it ended up looking like horsehair pottery, etc... Anyways, that always stuck with me, as that was obviously a home built kiln, cheap to make and it just required supervision and hard work.
Last night, I had to have my dog euthanized after a nearly two month long battle with something aggressive, we don't even know what (possibly cancer). We opted to have him cremated and I was given several options to urns etc.. and I saw one that reminded me of the Raku I made in college and I thought, I'd love to make something like that for him.
This is what was in the catalog:

I've started researching various methods to achieve this rainbow appearance on clay. I've seen alcohol fumes and copper as two methods. I think the copper glaze will create more of a slick finish, where the alcohol will create more of a matte/rough finish. I'd prefer the more rough finish.
Another roadblock is where do I get the clay? In school, we made it, we had giant bags of powder and we mixed with water. It was stoneware. But is that the best for this project?
Then, what kind of home-built kiln will work best to achieve this? I could do any of them - I could dig a hole, I have metal barrels, I can make a brick cube... I just want to achieve something pretty close to the rainbow appearing pottery like this....:
And finally, everything I researched said that the clay needs to be bisque fired BEFORE you get to the Raku finish, but surely there's a way to fire it without a kiln?

Thank you
