2023.02.03 05:17 Hotel_Earth Jargon, shaming and tripwires - from the perspective of a newcomer (to this subreddit, not to polyamory)

Hi mods, I’ve gone over the following with a fine-toothed comb, and I feel confident that it falls well within both the spirit and letter of the sub rules. It is critical and very long, but offered with the best of intentions - I hope you’ll let it through.
TL;DR hidden subreddit norms and highly specified language are causing some problems, especially for newcomers to the subreddit; I talk about these at preposterous length. Some subreddit drama is rehashed in a way that I hope is both constructive and more broadly relevant, but if this sounds tedious to you, consider skipping this post.
Happy Thursday everyone! The following is directed primarily towards curious or distressed people who might land here in the future, and the many posters who generously provide the benefit of their experience to others. If you are new to polyamory and find yourself startled by the apparent ubiquity of some fairly extreme viewpoints on this subreddit, I hope you will find my perspective both helpful and encouraging. I have little hope of changing any minds among the more hard-line contingent, but if any of you happen to have woken up on the right side of the bed this morning, I encourage you to read on.
This subreddit is, of course, composed of many thousands of people, who inhabit a wide range of viewpoints. Many of these people are considerate, and much of their advice is good, or at least well-intended. In a more archival mode, this sub can be a treasure trove of good ideas and useful perspectives. There is, however, a marked culture, one that often creates a minefield around certain topics. One needn't look far in order to encounter an appalling degree of vitriolic shaming, often triggered when new posters unfamiliar with specific tripwires unwittingly stumble across them. It is news to no one that some people are jerks, and that some people are bigger jerks on the internet than they might be in other contexts; at best, careful moderation can calm the waters, nudging discussions back on course when they begin to founder.
Here, the opposite effect is apparent: piety, condescension and a highly specified pseudo-academic lexicon converge to convey the impression that the norms found here are monolithic and widely accepted, when many of them in fact bear little resemblance to those of broader poly contexts. It’s a big world, and this subreddit is a bubble: despite its prominence in search results (many of you, I imagine, will have found your way here in the same manner I did) and the appearance of a fairly authoritative consensus on many topics, this sub contains its share of blind spots. While there are plenty of common poly pitfalls, especially for beginners, and many more wrong answers than right ones, there are also many more right answers than the fairly narrow window of tolerance within this subreddit will often indicate. If you and your partners are happy, secure and communicating well most of the time, you are not doing it wrong.
On the topic of security, I’m certainly not the only one to have found the almost total lack of regard displayed here for the virtues of devotion, loyalty and commitment surprising. While it is true that relationships can only change over time, and with new partners, one could be forgiven for concluding based on the contents of this subreddit that this change can only be one of fracturing, growing apart and letting go - and perhaps that one should not only feel bad about their part in this, but also feel bad about feeling bad about it. This terribly sad, lonely perspective serves to elevate a certain brand of detached avoidance to the status of some sort of fundamental poly axiom, encompassing none of the deep security that foundations of years, built on trust accumulated over time, can provide. Perhaps a little known secret to those less experienced: much of the time, polyamory is kind of easy among partners who communicate well. These are underrepresented here: I imagine many of them are simply living their lives rather than posting, for reasons I am beginning to understand very well.
Don’t let a person deep in the chaos of their own disorganized attachments bully you into doubting your own perceptions because they don’t like the way that their encounters with secure attachment perturb their own self-image! The jargon often runs deep here, and while highly specified language can certainly add clarity and facilitate concision, it is too often employed to the opposite purpose. Notice the rhetorical gymnastics on display. Wherever you encounter an idea that could have been communicated effectively in a plain sentence or two, but which instead inhabits an entire jargon-laced paragraph, you will often find a personal preference disguised as a norm. ‘I don’t like it when couples are too couple-y’ doesn’t sound nearly as authoritative as ‘the unexamined couple privilege on display here is very problematic, and a clear example of mononormative ideology infiltrating poly spaces and implicitly devaluing queerplatonic relationship paradigms.’
The exact same behavior will just as often be lauded or condemned, based only on the terminology employed to describe it. Observe the convolutions: to avoid labeling anything a rule or a hierarchy, even when its function is by any sane definition indistinguishable from one. To cast absolutely everything in the mold of some idealized free-agent autonomy, even in cases where basic tenets of simple decency - often of the sort that pass unremarked between casual acquaintances, let alone lovers - are clearly being violated. Consider that many of the people best-versed in this jargon use it primarily as a tool of manipulation, coercion and abuse - and pass unnoticed - while others who are simply trying to navigate a complex topic openly, in public, become instant pariahs. There often seems to be a sort of lexical ninja task force, waiting in the rafters for a chance to descend in full force upon any likely punching bag at the slightest provocation.
This pseudo-academic jargon serves as a barrier to entry, but also as a movable fortress for those best able to wield it. When operated in alignment with the veiled ideological tides I’ve described, it becomes a source of shifting, infinitely replenishable moral high ground for those in the know, like a force field of smug contempt from behind which they can rain vitriol down upon the uninitiated. It is of course natural for any community to develop its own norms, but some of these ones are toxic, unexamined and unexaminable, or at least needlessly proscriptive. After all, people will be much more likely to let you deconstruct their beliefs and motivations if you can first convince them that they are operating from a place of unexamined privilege!
The selective emphasis on certain types of privilege, and even the axis along which privilege is tabulated, deserve closer scrutiny as well. I find the emphasis on couple privilege particularly myopic, in that many of these so-called privileges are in fact a matter of necessity and even survival for many. If you or a partner haven’t experienced severe illness or injury, immigration difficulties, or threats to your basic safety, that is a very lucky thing. To claim that marriage, for instance, is inherently unethical in a poly context because only one partner can marry, or to suggest that these considerations should even be on the table when a partner’s citizenship, home, safety or access to medical care might be at stake, is to have truly lost the thread. Especially in queer, trans and immigrant circles, these are among the only tools on hand to navigate an often overtly hostile culture and apparatus of state; the true privilege is to not have to worry about these things.
It also strikes me as odd that, at least within this subreddit, those at the furthest extreme of the personal autonomy axis - and I’m primarily referring to self-labeled relationship anarchists here - are often the most vocal in their attempts to restrict the behavior or shame the preferences of others. The tired refrain ‘it’s not my job to educate you’ serves as a poor substitute for coherent argumentation, often bookending some absurd blanket edict (‘there are no couples in polyamory’), delivered without any context or support. I want to be clear that I have nothing at all against relationship anarchy, and have found much there to be of value, both in the literature and in conversation. I am bewildered, however, by the extent to which some among this sub’s RA contingent, who value autonomy so highly for themselves, seem inclined to grant other people so little of it.
The degree to which some of the louder voices in this crowd mistake their own preferences for some kind of universal moral truth is truly surprising: they should be among the least likely to make such a mistake. One suspects a great many relationship objectivists or neoreactionaries, if there can be such a thing, hiding among these self-labeled anarchists. There is a deep irony here: nominally anarchist politics eventuate in effectively authoritarian aims and practices, complete with an eager avant-cop goon squad to enforce them. This doesn’t really look like anarchism to me; the anarchism I know has a whole lot more to do with solidarity, mutual aid and community. My previous entry on this topic was described as ‘pseudo-intellectual ranting’ by a moderator, but I’m genuinely curious: in what sense is this doctrine of total self-reliance anarchist?
In any case, it’s revealing that such uncompromising relational ethics within one subset of interaction can fail so utterly to translate to others: many of these people seem plainly eager for any opportunity to dole out beatings under the guise of tough love. I wonder how many poly novices, having been so badly burnt on this subreddit for crossing an invisible tripwire in a moment of vulnerability, end up turning back to the mainstream again for years, or for good? How many more have at least internalized the careless, toxic ramblings of some overeager poly keyboard cop? That number is certainly not zero; there is real harm being done here.
I am glad to have many friends in the wild, both mono and poly, who when faced with discomfort around other people’s ideas are reasonably capable of producing ‘that’s definitely not for me, but knock yourself out’ as a plausible alternative hypothesis to ‘this person is clearly evil and needs to be punished immediately.’ I wish the same were more often the case here. Instead, the pattern is often that of a purity spiral, or a struggle session. Controversial topics quickly become impossible to discuss. A wire gets tripped, and the subreddit immune system activates: if either total submission or the right lexical credentials are not immediately produced by the offender, the worst possible intentions are assumed. Labels are thrown out until one of them sticks, the public shaming commences, and the conversation is effectively over, regardless of its contents: the heretics are ritually burned, and the community once again made safe.
After all, no one wants to be problematic, or unethical; those are bad things! Why would anyone need to question the terms, unless they’re up to no good? The result is a fractured epistemology, one in which much of the foundational terminology admits of no easy definition, but also brooks no examination. This is an impossible basis for any kind of open discourse.
On the topic of thorny, ambiguous terms, and at the risk of totally derailing this conversation: let’s talk about unicorns, autonomy, and an interesting pattern of reactions I’ve noticed on this sub over the past few days.
To provide a little context: I (a somewhat masc andro AMAB nonbinary) posted my Feeld profile for review a few days ago. I received a number of very sweet comments, a good deal of constructive criticism, some harsh but helpful advice, and a couple of nasty comments which I ignored. (That post is still up; if you’re curious, you can see it here:
My spouse and anchor partner Claire (a femme AFAB nonbinary), who I’m currently staying with, was so excited about how much helpful feedback I got that they asked me to post their Feeld profile, too (they don’t have a reddit account, and after the ensuing fiasco that seems likely to remain a permanent state of affairs). I can’t link to that post, because it was removed by the moderators, but although Claire’s post was very similar to mine, the reaction couldn’t have been more different. With the exception of a few constructive entries, the comments were overwhelmingly harsh from the beginning.
We had both written in our profiles that we were open to dating together or separately, and that we were open to being unicorns for other queer couples. This didn’t really make any waves in my profile review thread, but for some reason Claire’s set people off right away. The thread really caught on fire when Claire used the word ‘throuple’ in a comment (Claire speaks excellent english, among four other languages, but it is not their first language, and highly specific context-dependent terminology can sometimes be a little foggy - can you see another mode of gatekeeping at work here?).
It was clear from the post and our comments that we both have separate long term poly relationships with people of various genders, some of which relationships have endured from well before we met each other, and that dating people separately was in no way new to us. Nonetheless, things continued to heat up. I was criticized for responding, rather than just taking the beating (a favorite tactic of bullies everywhere), and once the label ‘unicorn hunter’ started flying around, there was no containing the flames - the post was quickly removed by the moderators.
I was initially hesitant to dig into this topic, but upon examining some past posts on this sub, I became aware of the likelihood that if I didn’t address it I would likely be written off as a salty unicorn hunter; I don’t want to make it quite that easy. I’m not interested in re-litigating the exact arguments from that post, but I think their outline is a useful lens through which to examine the dynamic I’ve outlined above. There are some terms I want to unpack here, because there are multiple conflicting definitions operating concurrently, and watching while Claire and I were publicly shamed - after being herded into the gap between a narrow, explicit definition and a much wider operational one - was extremely illuminating.
I’ll start with the narrow, explicit definition: that one’s easy, because the criteria are outlined in both the subreddit rules and some of the linked literature.
From the sub rules:
“Personal ads and the like are not allowed. If you post asking for people in your area, or anything looking like a personals ad, it will be removed. Same with commenting anywhere attempting to do the same.
This includes asking [how to find "a third", “a unicorn”, or multiple women to date only you and maybe each other.”
OK! That’s looking pretty good; everything about this seems very sensible. But wait, there’s another link! Maybe this will describe unicorn hunters in more detail? Once again, we’re in luck:
“If you don't know what a "unicorn hunter" is, that's simply an established couple, a heterosexual man and bisexual woman, that's searching for a bisexual woman\* that is open to a relationship with both the man and the woman in the existing relationship (but no one else), who will love them both equally, and agree to the rules that the couple has already decided are healthy for their relationship. She is expected to fit in to their relationship without changing the existing relationship with the couple, and if they feel that she's not following any rule, she's out, to protect The Couple.”
Great! This is looking good too. We’re going to take the asterisk into account and assume this describes any potential triad, regardless of gender and orientation. Obligation to date both of us? Nope. Exclusivity? Nope. Expectations of equal feelings? Rules new partners have to follow? Noooope. Expectations that our relationship won’t change? Rules or veto power from within the couple? No, and no.
Alright - looking good! We aren’t unicorn hunters, by any accepted definition that anyone can point to. We’re interested in dating or playing with someone new together, which we haven’t done much of, and also enjoy playing unicorn with other couples, separately. Anyone who cares to look can easily see that we’ve both been poly and happily partnered in a number of concurrent relationships for many years, even though we’re not up to speed on the subreddit-specific jargon. This should go pretty well, right?
About the strongest reasonable claim anyone made was that any premeditated desire to date another person together was a recipe for heartbreak. While it can certainly go that way, that hasn’t been the majority of my experience with other couples. But I get it - lots of people have been burnt by shitty couples - fair enough. There was a bunch of criticism from people who could tell that we were a couple and didn’t like that - kind of tangential, but under the same umbrella - ok, sure.
The bulk of the vitriol, though, was in regard to unicorn hunting. This is interesting, because by any reading of the narrow, explicit definition above, neither Claire or I are unicorn hunters. None of this should be controversial. What’s going on here?
It seems that there is another, hidden definition of unicorn hunting that comes into play when the unspoken norms of the sub are questioned. This definition is not explicit, and I can only trace its outline by examining the tripwires I triggered around it, but I have a hunch it might look something like this: ‘unicorn hunting is when people I might want to date if they were single or solo are in a couple, and they are talking about dating people together.’ I’m not pulling this out of thin air - most of the more energetic negative comments, especially on Claire’s posts, followed roughly the format: ‘I would totally swipe right if [X], but I’ll pass / you suck / byeeeee because [Y].’
While the impact of our preferences on others' self-conception was a noteworthy feature of those comments, it seemed central to another theme that surfaced later on. Near the end of that thread’s short, messy life, Claire and I received another healthy round of shaming, for saying that we both enjoy playing, solo, with other couples, as self-identified unicorns. Particularly distressing was the implication that a sexually confident femme could not meaningfully determine their own boundaries or needs; that either of us unicorning at all was (from the perspective of the unicorn!) definitionally unethical. I find this deeply troubling. Some of the comments I encountered on this topic seemed to point toward what I can only describe as some kind of victimless breach of an undefined and unspoken sexual code of poly ethics.
Unspoken, and highly resistant to questioning: this line of inquiry led more or less directly to the post’s removal. The proscription of victimless ‘unethical’ behavior doesn’t protect anyone, and indeed can only exist as an instrument of normative enforcement - after all, if no one is harmed by a behavior, who can its prohibition possibly hope to protect? This position seems strangely puritanical, for a poly subreddit: I’m reminded, bleakly, of extremist Christian prohibitions on masturbation as ‘self-rape.’ To anticipate any possible retort that unicorn-hunting couples harm people all the time, I want to emphasize that it was claimed that we were harming ourselves, in some manner we were not aware of, by unicorning with other couples - and that my attempts to point this concern trolling out led directly to the post being removed.
Is discomfort harm? Who, exactly, is being protected here? What are they being protected from? What is it about confident, self-assured unicorns that certain poly identities find so existentially threatening? Why does a community founded on the principles of negotiation and mutual agreement adopt a posture that can be accurately described as ‘do what we say, or else, no questions!’ when certain of its unwritten rules are challenged? The answers to these questions are left as an exercise for the reader.
I expect this kind of reactive posturing from the straight world; it’s disappointing to find it here, too. My experience above is only a single case, but even a cursory inventory of this sub’s contents will demonstrate that the underlying principle generalizes. There are too many examples here of shaming, of vitriol aimed at newcomers over perfectly understandable difficulties. Vitriol delivered with such piety, as though the ultimate poly goal is to burn all interdependence away at the altar of total autonomy. This is a shame. One doesn’t need to completely dismantle the basic machinery of attachment (as though such a thing is even possible) in order to practice ethical polyamory. There is a lot of good to be found in lifelong commitment for those who seek it, even in poly relationships.
It is possible to be married and ethically poly. Don’t mistake the gospel of avoidance from those who are triggered by secure attachment for some bitter but necessary pill to swallow. That is total bullshit. If you truly believe that you can exist alongside other people - let alone in relationship with other people - without anyone ever owing anyone else anything - you are delusional. At best, this mentality is indicative of a thoroughly unexamined lack of personal accountability; at worst, it is a direct instrument of manipulation and abuse. Sometimes pain is something to sit with alone; sometimes it’s a signal that support and co-regulation are needed; and sometimes it’s a sign that what you are doing is hurting you, and you should stop. All that matters, ultimately, is what works well for you and your partners.
I am not convinced that I am right on all counts, but I will offer that I am not anonymous here. I am willing to stand behind, defend and also re-examine my own beliefs. The same, you will find, is often not true of those most assiduously toeing the party line, although I am sure many will be eager to tell you differently. And there is a party line, enforced by group pressure and by unbalanced moderation served with a heaping tablespoon of condescension. An appeal to those I’ve spoken harshly of here: even from a perspective of self-interest, shaming people and tearing them down is not going to get the result you want. You certainly don’t owe anyone kindness, or any response at all, but at least have enough self-awareness to realize when you’re getting yourself off on some human punching bag kink - don’t think of it as helpful.
To those just starting out, or seeking some extra support in a difficult moment, please don’t be fooled by the funhouse mirror effect this subreddit can have, and please, please, please don’t let some internet strangers’ weird hangups prevent you from exploring anything safe, sane, consensual and fun. We’re all still in the early days of building a shared map for the territory of polyamory. I’m reminded of a thought from Brian Eno: “Avant-garde music is a sort of research music. You’re glad someone’s done it but you don’t necessarily want to listen to it. It’s similar to the way I’m very happy people have gone to the North Pole. It extends my concept of the planet to know it exists, but I don’t want to live there, or even go there actually. But it’s a boundary condition.”
The most uncompromising perspectives on personal autonomy are fascinating, but you don’t need to visit the outpost in order to benefit from the research. Polyamory, as a relational framework and social phenomenon, is still nascent. Our shared understandings around this topic are very much a work in progress, and anyone throwing down an extreme viewpoint with a surfeit of confidence is likely trying harder to convince themselves than you. Projection is rampant, especially when one’s own behavior is taken by others as a challenge to their own self-conception. If shame is the primary response you experience to someone’s ‘advice,’ the odds are good that they’re not really trying to help you. Take the best and ignore the rest.
Happily, much of the linked external literature recommended here is excellent, and not nearly so proscriptive or judgemental as you might imagine based on its disjunct and distorted parroting by many posters. I have found “Polysecure” by Jessica Fern particularly helpful, and return to it often. For my part, I am not sure whether I will be back here. It will be interesting to see the subreddit immune system in action, and I’m always ready for a pleasant surprise.
In the meantime, be kind to yourselves, take care of each other, and remember to drink plenty of water.

2023.02.03 04:56 Berdyie [Update Idea] The Restructurized Update (1.2x) (Structures Section)

Originally this post was going to be about a Quality Of Life update packaged in with "new content" in the form of remastering old and mostly forgotten content. Unfortunately there is a limit to the amount of characters Reddit posts can have and also no one wants to read an hour of rambling about every small change to frustrating features. As a middle ground, i wanted to present some ideas for the main section of the new cotent: the structures. I mean the post is still very long but hopefully some people care enough to read it and give feedback. I like opening discussions about this stuff!
To start, it's safe to say there are a lot of Minecraft structures that were added years ago, and then never updated from there. At best, the loot tables of chests were changed a bit to account for some new cool items entering their item pools. That was basically the best we got for all the old structures. The Restructurized Update would be focused around redesigning these classic structures into a new form that feels fresh, even for veteran players, and add far more complexity than they do currently.
While this list COULD include basically every structure in Minecraft (let's be honest, adding complexity to something can go on infinitely), I decided to narrow it down to a few specifically left-behind structures. It's also worth mentioning: despite me talking about the extra challenge of these places, making them more difficult isn't necessary. Even just an aesthetic and layout remaster would go a long way.
For virtually every modern Minecraft player, dungeons are a pleasant discovery and nothing more. They give you the chance to make a mob farm and give you a small bit of loot. That is, quite literally, it. They don't even hold the title of being the only place to find mossy cobblestone anymore, since that stuff now has a crafting recipe.
If I were to redesign the dungeon, I would look for a full-on fantasy angle, because dungeons are (at their heart), an optional challenge. When you find one, it's a promise of loot with the risk of danger.
My design would be this: an actual dungeon fit with rooms and corridors, similar to the current Stronghold but smaller and packed densly with both danger, loot and, most importantly, TRAPS. Currently structures like the Desert and Jungle Temples include traps too, but since they are rarely filled to the brim with monsters, navigating around these traps is usually just time consuming and nothing more. With the threat of monsters and spawners, suddenly traps are an actually dangerous obstacle that could mean life-or-death in a fight-or-flight scenario.
To go even further (though this is definetly more "modded" content than vanilla) they could even introduce a brand new kind of spawner to up the difficulty: one that spawns a set number of named, armoured and armed mobs before breaking. That way you can still keep it to one regular spawner that can be farmed, while still keeping the theme of "endless hordes spawning from some undiscovered room".
These special spawners would guard the best loot, but would only spawn their more powerful mobs when the player gets close (and, being that the mobs are named, they never despawn). A (hopefully) unique challenge where getting even better dungeon rewards makes it feel earned rather than just running into a small 10x10 cube, looting the chests, and then leaving before the single spawner can spawn those 2-3 zombies.
The main thing though for dungeons is not necessarily the challenge, but the actual design itself. The current dungeon is, as previously stated, a small cobblestone cube with 2-3 chests and a spawner. That's the whole structure. Even making it a small cobblestone-and-stone-brick building with 2-3 interconnected rooms would be a gargantuan improvement.
Nether Fortress
Ah, the Nether Fortress. 80% random hallways and bridges leading to nowhere, 15% random hallways and staircases also leading to nowhere but now with loot, and 5% actually useful things (blaze spawners, nether wart farms, etc.). These things were added to the game over a decade ago and, despite being, very literally, mandatory for completing the game, they have barely changed over this entire decade.
While I don't have too many specific ideas for what a new Nether Fortress should look like (I'm not an artist), I think a main take-away should be density. These things are 75% running around, usually looking for blazes, wither skeletons or (on first visits) chests. The long hallways make doing so tedious and genuinely boring for what should be a dangerous mid-game challenge. Even besides their tedium, they are also incredibly ugly and confusing to navigate (probably as a result of their age). The fact that they recieved no changes in the 2020 Nether Update is honestly both surprising and a massive disappointment. It's important to emphasise again, these things are mandatory if you want to go to the end. Make them exciting!
So, in regards to increasing the "density" of these structures, make them smaller but packed with loot and danger. Just because a thing is big doesn't mean it's fun to explore (tedium). Now of course this does introduce a new problem: finding them. After all, a smaller Fortress means it's harder to find (at least those long bridges and halls serve one purpose!). So, to remedy this, I propose a new item to drop from certain nether creatures, the Fortress Staff. In a similar concept to the special maps you can get from Cartographer villagers, these staffs (visually similar to a blaze rod tipped with gold) are either traded for from Piglins or found as a rare drop from Piglin Brutes.
These staffs work by vibrating in the players hand when they look in the direction of the nearest Fortress, with the staff vibrating more the closer they get to the correct direction. It only works for a set number of blocks (I don't know, a thousand or whatever), but it means that you as the player have a way to find these smaller (and denser) Fortresses without having to just wander aimlessly forever. And, not to mention, when you find that first fortress, you will have to move quite a distance away for the staff to point you in the direction of a different fortress.
Main thing to take away for the Nether Fortress is making it feel alive. Right now it's a bunch of ugly halls and tiny rooms made from one material. Even just simply taking the current design (as flawed as it is) and giving it an aesthetic makeover would be so much better.
The slightly-less-ugly cousin of the Nether Fortress and just as mandatory for completing the game, the Stronghold has been left in the past in regards to its design. It is better deigned than the Fortress, but that was a pretty low bar to beat in all honesty. And, worst of all, I have yet to find a single Stronghold that wasn't shattered into a thousand pieces by it's bizarre generation. Floating buttons, missing doors, hallways intersected by other parts of the Stronghold (and thus cut off). This thing is bugged from here to Timbuktu.
While most of my suggestions for the Dungeon apply here as well (though on a larger and grander scale) in terms of challenge, density of content and an aesthetic design overhaul, I think the main thing the Stronghold needs is a bunch of bugfixes to its terrain generation. This thing is a mess in the worst ways, and while this isn't usually an active problem for 95% of players, the fact that there is such a large amount of improvement that could be done (but hasn't for however many years) really says something.
It's also worth mentioning that the "unique" mob to the Stronghold, Silverfish, barely play a role in the Stronghold (yes I know they're not unique to the Stronghold but I think of them as one-and-the-same thanks to the Infested Blocks and spawner present there). These mobs could be far more prevelant and, in a less-buggy Stronghold that didn't force you to mine through covered-up passages, they could actually serve as a viable and dangerous deterrant from simply mining through the walls to get to the portal whilst ignoring all the monsters.
As far as I understand it, that was (part of) their purpose, but the Infested Blocks don't spawn often enough or in close-enough clumps to pose a real threat to anyone with above-base-iron gear. The thought of mining through a block and unleashing 8-10 blocks worth of angry Silverfish is a cool concept, and it's genuinely disappointing I have yet to see this happen personally (and I've been playing Minecraft for a long time!).
So to summarise, I would suggest a remastering of the generation mechanics of the Stronghold. Make them much less buggy in generation, and give a reason for players to not just dig their way to the portal room and ignore the rest! Aside from the library and (very) occassional chest (which only the former having good loot for mid-to-late-game players), the rest of the Stronghold doesn't really serve any purpose. It's just a bunch of (mostly) empty hallways and rooms. Making it slightly smaller and with more content (danger and treasure) would really make it feel like the "start of the endgame".
Temples (Desert and Jungle)
Like the Dungeon, both types of Temple are optional (though usually sought-after) challenges offering extra loot with the risk of danger, in this case, puzzles and traps (and the ocassional naturally-spawning mob). Unfortunately, the truth is that the temples just aren't challenging. For (literally) brand-new players, they might be surprised if they trigger the traps (only the Desert Temple would be really lethal, though), but after that first surprise they aren't going to fall for it again. Let's be honest, after that first time, when have you ever been so much as hurt by a temple trap?
There was a fantastic post a little bit ago (sorry I can't find the post or the user who made it, but I'm sure if you care to look you can!) about a redesign for the Desert Temple that laid out a larger temple with multiple layers of puzzles, with the key being that the puzzle changes with every temple. That way you need to figure out the new solution to the puzzle for each one you visit. Sure, anyone who knows how to solve it can merely use their previous experience to work out the new solution way faster, but even just adding this one extra layer of depth through randomness was a massive improvement!
An important detail I mentioned in passing in the Dungeon section was the idea of traps being alongside threats. Currently the traps in temples are a joke not just because everyone knows about them, but because there is, most often, rarely any threat that forces you to rush or navigate around the trap while dealing with another thing, like a mob. The thing with temples, however, is that I don't think they should be combat-challenges. The challenge should be the puzzle, not necessarily the threat of navigating around multiple threats. This is why Jungle Temples are a complete joke. The only traps in there basically can't kill you on their own (even an unarmoured player can survive multiple arrows), and there isn't a threat that forces you to, say, jump over the tripwire whilst fighting a zombie or whatever. I think the Jungle Temple traps should be reworked into an actual puzzle trap (like the Desert Temple), though how such a puzzle trap would work or how it could be made sufficiently lethal with nothing but arrow traps is beyond my knowledge. I'm not a game designer (ie; not smart).
On a slightly seperate and unfortunate note, I don't think there is a way to completely solve the issue of just simply "mining your way around the traps". After all, even a brand-new character can just make a wooden pickaxe and completely ignore all the puzzle traps. While we could do something like "surround the treasure room in obsidian!", that idea is a little too ridiculous. I think a more obvious (though also not-very-original) idea would be to impliment the same system of Silverfish deterrant that the Stronghold has. That way you can still brute-force mine your way through, but new characters might struggle to take on the hordes of Silverfish they are more-than-likely to unleash.
Honestly though, Temples are appreciated for their loot above all else. While I would love to see a fleshed out system of randomly generated temples that each have a new (and different) puzzle-trap challenge, the truth is that most players just want to get the loot and get out. If the dev team did decide to leave temples much the same but still change some things, I would highly recommend an aesthetic overhaul. While the temples aren't nearly as bad as stuff like the current Dungeons or Fortresses, they definetly could be improved, and they are one of the few structures that I think could be enlarged and enhanced in this way without making them more irritating to navigate or what-not. Not making them temple compelxes or whatever, just bigger buildings with more detail.
So to summarise the temples, I would try to make the traps have some depth in their replayability, and offer extra challenge. Stick with a focus on puzzles above combat, but make the traps in them sufficiently lethal so you are incentivised to not fail (or even make them dangerous to the loot, not the player!). In regards to simply mining through the walls, Silverfish might assist that problem, though it may not be necessary. However something that can always be improved is aesthetics!

Ok rambling over.
I had a lot more to say, but honestly I'm doubting many people will care enough to read down to here. If you are one of those people, I would genuinely appreciate some feedback! I post this to open a discussion on the state of the structures in Minecraft, and I would love to hear your comments and opinions on this topic (even if you disagree!). Again I'm sorry I didn't have the skill to make images for the concepts I propose, but hopefully the words I wrote can give enough of an idea for the concepts the Minecraft dev team could use to improve these things. While I don't HATE the classic structures by any stretch of the imagination, I do think there is enormous room for improvement, and I would love to see future updates that do exactly that.

2023.02.03 04:55 Slight_Garbage5622 The Complex (Ch1)

Post PoP, don't read if you care about spoilers
Molly caught herself on the rail with an audible thunk. The slippery coating of ice covering the staircase beneath her reflected the green hue of dumb energy she had surrounded herself with, just incase her slip had turned ìnto a tumble. She took a moment to steady her feet and glanced behind her. A snowy mountain range stretched out before her, an ocean of evergreen trees with no civilization in sight, save for the cold metal staircase she was climbing. In the sky, she spotted Darkstar's drone zooming back and forth between Molly and the compound, ready to alert her if any people were headed her way. She flashed it a quick thumbs up, gripped the straps of her backpack, took a deep breath, and continued her climb up the staircase.
It took nearly ten minutes for Molly to finally reach the end of the staircase. It should have taken her only 3 or 4, only she had kept slipping and nearing falling on the way up. She shivered at the thought of going back down, but she had a job to do. Boss was relying on her, after all. Molly looked up at the compound she had only ever seen in aerial photos from the drone. It was a massive thing, nearly eight stories tall and wide as a city block.
Only one road led to this remote part of Taiga country, a dirt road veering off the I-15 highway. That road was nearly a 3 hours drive and led straight to here, although all the maps said neither the road or the compound existed. It was stuffed full of security cameras and hidden checkpoints to warn the gray building ahead of any vehicles headed in.
It had been a lucky break to find the unused dirt trail that led to the back access stairs. Sylvie had been the one to make that discovery, about a week prior, figuring that there must've been at least some smokers among the 20000 workers in the very health conscious research complex. Giovanni had hoisted Sylvie up onto his shoulders and chanted celebrations, then, much to Sylvie's protest.
Molly smiled at the memory, before casting a silence bubble around herself and heading off to the gray building ahead.
"Okay Beartrap, guard patrol ahead. Looks like Major Nose Hair and Corporal Albino Dino." came Darkstar's voice from the headset.
"Thanks" Molly replied, heading into a bush for cover. Major Nose Hair and Corporal Albino Dino weren't their actual names. None of "Giovanni's Evil Organisation" (name still pending), plus Sylvie and Phoenica, knew any of the guards actual names. They had spent about two week cataloging every person and thing they could find through the drone and scouting missions, which had frustrated Giovanni in particular as he wanted to simply burst through the front door "Bulldozer Style!™". He had consoled himself by giving all the guards they spotted funny nicknames and insisted on using them in every strategy meeting. Sylvie hadn't approved but he was heavily outnumbered, given that about 8 of the 10 people in their group were either Giovanni's minions or Honorary minions. Molly thought the names were better than whatever they actually were anyways.
"Looks like they've gone past" Darkstar's voice called, pulling Molly out of her thoughts. She leaped from the bush and sprinted to the rusted back door as fast as she could, making sure to dumb the pressure of her feet down so as to not leave visible footprints.
"Employees Only!" The sign on the door read. Molly ignored it and poured Trixie and Rick's "Hacker" potion on the keycard reader. It sparked and fizzled for a few seconds before the door swung wide open.
"I'm in" Molly said into the earpiece, closing the door behind her. Now she just had to rendezvous with Boss and Trixie, who had already snuck their way in.
"Great job, Beartrap" said the man himself, "Me and Shortstacks are loitering in a staff break room right now"
"Just say 'in a', why'd you add loitering? I feel, like, soooo uncool now" said Trixie.
"Loitering IS cool!"
Molly felt she could almost hear Trixie's eye roll through the headset.
"Oi, the radio is for vital communications only. Cut the chatter" Sylvie's garbled voice interrupted.
"Radio? This is a phone call" Phoenica pointed out. Sylvie grumbled slightly, but seemed to accept the correction.
"Nerd" Giovanni muttered. Whether this was directed at Sylvie or Phoenica, Molly couldn't tell. Maybe it was both. She shook her head and turned on a makeshift bodycam feed for Darkstar's benefit.
The hallway was the same sterile gray as the outside of the building, though it was clearly made of drywall or plastic rather than the hard bricks and cement of the exterior. Harsh fluorescent lights blared above. Molly found it difficult to believe that people worked here, let alone did mentally intensive science here. Maybe the offices were nicer? She shook her head again, it didn't matter. She reached into her backpack and pulled out the crude map of what they thought the facility looked like. They hadn't ever been inside yet, and so were forced to try to extrapolate the interior by peeking in through windows form the outside. The map had many question marks on it.
"Which staff room?" She asked. Twenty thousand people worked here after all, it was so remote and secretive that some even lived here. It must've have had tons of staff rooms, the map alone had 4 marked.
"Second floor, it's next to a staircase marked B5- wha- hey! No, no, no Shortstacks! You're doing it wrong. Ya don't reach into vending machine from the bottom! That never works. Step aside, I'll break the glass" Giovanni replied. A thud sounded "Ow".
B5… Molly glanced around, a fire exit sign hung over the door she had just come from, but she saw no staircases. She gripped the straps of her backpack tighter and headed down the hall.
Door after door passed by. The map was already proving to be less than accurate. According to the crayon marking, Molly should have been standing in front of a storage closet right now, instead, she was standing in front of a conference room with giant windows! How did the two get mixed up? And wasn't there supposed to be a T-section to the left? That hallway led to a lobby- Wait… a lobby? A Lobby!
Molly froze, Darkstar's video delayed gasp followed. This had been a key point in all the strategy meetings. Lobbies meant people, people meant phones, phones meant guards. She had to get out of here. Molly zipped around a corner before anyone could see and doubled her silence bubble. She stood stock still, listening for any indication that she was spotted.
Nothing, she was in the clear. Molly let out a big sigh, then a groan. This was going to be a long day.
Sylvie mentally kicked himself. It had been his idea for everyone to go into the compound one by one, rather than as a group. He'd pitched it as a way to make it easier to hide from the guard patrols outside the building, but really it was self preservation. He was a hundred percent sure one of Giovanni's cretins "minions" were gonna screw up and he didn't want to be nearby when that happened. Now he was really regretting it. He hadn't accounted for how difficult it would be to regroup once they were actually inside. Now Molly was, according to the panicked directions from Darkstar, god only knows where in there and in 15 minutes it was his turn to go up. He hadn't expected the maps to be that bad!
He watched mutely as Fred (he refuses to address the criminals by their fake names) scampered up the staircase. Something about his worry must have shown on his face because Phoenica was prodding him.
"You, uh, look a little stressed" she said. For once her bells weren't jingling with her, they were lying on the snow. Stealth was the name of the game here, and her unnatural ability to sneak up on people would undoubtedly be helpful. Sylvie considered her for a moment. He remembered the day when he had first met Molly's other friends, Phoenica had immediately bombarded him with questions regarding his sheep summons and making soup opera-like imitations of "flirting". Then the twenty-something, who Sylvie had initially mistaken for a cardboard cutout due to thus unchanging smile, had asked to be his friend in the most threatening manner possible. In the present, Rick was trying to understand the concept of an evergreen tree while he waited his turn. Apparently Ocean country had no trees at all, and it had taken him a lot to understand seasonal trees. Sylvie remembered he hadn't responded and quickly sprung to life.
"Huh- oh yeah, yeah. I'm, uh. I'm good"
"Do not lie. Lying is bad!"
"You spent the last two weeks plotting to break and enter into a private research facility, you can't use morality as an argument"
"Yes, I can! Those are bad guys planning to do bad things. So I. am. justified" Phoenica puffed, then sighed. She tried a line her mother did to her, once. "You really don't want to tell me what's wrong?"
Sylvie looked down at his feet. He knew that tone, and that line. Those were the words of someone who wasn't going to let it go.
"It's just- something is going to seriously wrong, and its going to be my fault." He paused, trying to find the right words "Groups are inherently more stable than long individuals. They can react to situations with a wide tool set, cover each others weaknesses, splitting up like this-". He looked up, nervously tapping his finger against his leg. "It was my idea to split up, what if that-"
"Are you a seer?" Phoenica interjected
"Huh?" Where did that come from?
"Are you a seer?" She repeated
"Um, no?"
"Then how do you know something is going to go wrong?"
"Well, I-"
"It's going to be fine" She said, decisively. There was no real argument, no logical reasoning, just a declaration. It was enough. Sylvie nodded. Yeah. It's going to be fine
"A seer, you say?" Rick said suddenly. It seems he had finally internalized the concept of evergreens, or at least that they didn't taste good. "Did I hear that correctly good friend, you are a seer of prophecy?"
Sylvie opened his mouth to correct him, then paused. "Yes" he lied. "Partially". Phoenica gasped at the lie but said nothing.
"Wonderful!" Rick barked an unsettling laugh, something between a sinister cackle and his trademark cannon fire laugh. Black lightning danced through the air, and he rose his hands like a priest in the middle of an emotional Sermon "I Declare Befunuthemdul will lose the mayoral election!"
"I didn't think there was a Befunuthemdul running for mayor this term" Sylvie questioned
"Oh no, not this term. He hasn't even been born yet"
"So… when?" Phoenica tilted her head
"I don't know! My seer powers are only partial, you know"
Sylvie chuckled and glanced at his watch. Eight minutes. He steeled himself.
"Car crash, stay down. Two dudes and a dude-ette to your right" crackled the headset. Molly was internally panicking, she needed to find either boss or Rick soon or the plan was ruined.
The plan was fairly simple; Sylvie was supposed to make his way to the ventilation system, where he would spread his sleep powder across the entire facility while everyone else would shelter around Rick or Giovanni's Demon Aura Energy while Molly dumbed down the alarm.
Testing (which had consisted of slingshotting moldy garlic onto the rooftop) showed that the vents reached everywhere in the building relatively quickly. Workers and guards quickly leaving the building were complaining about "that horrible smell" within five minutes that day. The problem was, that test had added an extra route to the guards patrol route, with guards taking a detour to the ventilation to make sure no other nasty smelling objects lodged themselves in. That meant that once Sylve made his way up there, he had to enact his part immediately and couldn't wait for anyone.
Molly had crumpled up the map and stuffed it into her bag, it wasn't much use anyway. She was getting deeply frustrated at the lack of any signs or directional markings. Apparently this place expected you to memorize its layout. She must've passed dozens of hallways by now and still couldn't find a staircase. At the very least the walls were no longer that drab gray color. She must've wandered into a different section of the building. Oddly, she found that these hallways occasionally had benches on the side. They were the only thing that had an accent of a different color, splotches of blue over an ocean of white. She took a seat in one of them to catch her breath.
Footsteps rang out. Molly bolted up, her heart hammering as the footsteps drew nearer. She searched for any place to hide, the doors all needed keywords to enter and she only had three "Hacker" potions. Whoever was coming would have noticed the damaged keyword reader anyway. She definitely didn't have time to hide behind a corner, this hallway was far too long.
Deciding that standing was no longer an option, she slid underneath the bench and pulled her hood up, so her colorful and bright marshmallow hair was obscured (as well as the "glow in the dark' phytoplankton she harbored in exchange for a government paycheck). Her stomach churned as a pair of leather shoes came into view, lab coat trailing behind. She meekly held up a hand, ready to knock them out with a wave of dumb energy at the first sign she was spotted.
The shoes kept walking until it turned a corner and disappeared from view.
Molly let out a breath she hadn't known she was holding and slid out from under the bench.
"You alright Beartrap?" Darkstar's voice sounded. Oh right, the body cam would have only had a view of the floor that whole time. Molly nodded reassuringly, before realizing the camera couldn't see that either
"Yeah" Came her own meek voice. She winced at how breathless it sounded.
"I'm in" Car Crash called out. Good, at least everyone else was on schedule. Molly started to feel guilty, she was dragging everyone down again. She stood up, she had a job to do. Everyone else was doing there part so she had to do hers. Molly continued walking the halls.
This is a fanfic rough draft I wanted to get out there before I second guess myself and delete it permanently. Any advice on how to improve my, frankly, awful attempt at characterization would be much appreciated

2023.02.03 04:09 Trillion5 THE 96 'MASTER KEY' (Update 2023 Feb 3)

Because I haven't always been particularly professional in presenting core concepts of the 'Migrator Model', or in explaining the thinking behind the (pretty straightforward) math, thought I'd run a mini series of posts looking at key concepts and numbers. Please bear in mind I've singlehandedly had to invent a nomenclature to convey the core findings and concepts. Given the ratio signature (that's for another day) of Skara Brae or Angkor is 48, it's a shame it took me so long to look at 2 x 48.
The 96 'Master Key'
There are indeed quite a few 'keys' in the model - The Elsie Key (29), The Elsie Key Nine Step Method, the Skara-Angkor Key (58), the standard sector ratio key (52.2) and completed sector ratio key (52.8). By the time I started using 96, I needed a fresh term and as by far '96' is the most important, 'Master Key' seemed appropriate. Though gone over the separation of the fraction (derived from the opposite migratory momentums proposition) a lot recently, the 96 Master Key yields a new understanding of the 24.2-day spacing in relation to Sacco's 1574.4 orbit.
1574.4 / 96 = 16.4
- separation of the 0.4 fraction -
96 x 16 = 1536
96 x 0.4 = 38.4
96 x 24.2 = 2323.2
2323.2 - 787.2 (half orbit) = 1536
1536 - 1574.4 = -38.4
The 96 Master Key here shows a consistency for the proposition of the separation of the fraction - in basic terms, the idea being there is a movement each side of a 0.4 migratory spoke by a clean 24 days (opposite 24.2-day momentums meeting to form the 0.4 platform and then overshooting). The effect creates the 48.4-day spacing. The '16' separated from its 0.4 (from orbit / 96) can be seen as representing 1/3rd of the 48 migration either side of one of the 96 migratory spores (0.4). So 16 + 8 days one side, and 16 + 8 the other.
The circle geometry pointers show very strong connections to the 96 Master Key. The nearest complete number 360 (possibly a universally logical number to divide a circle with outside of the radian method) inside the orbit is 1440 (4 x 360), and the remainder yields the 'abstract' ellipse 134.4.
1440 + 96 = 1536
1440 - 96 = 1344 (10 x abstract ellipse)
And the abstract ellipse comes into sharp relief when applying the 96 Master Key to pi. before that though a quick look at the standard sector ratio key (52.2) and the completed sector ratio key (52.8). The sector ratio keys are inside the the 'dip signifiers' and the standard sector ratio key is inside the Skara-Angkor Signifier) - I'll cover those on another day too.
1574.4 + 96 = 1670.4
1670.4 / 52.2 (standard sector ratio key) = 32
A very important number in the model because of the two dips sharing the light signature presented in Kiefer's (et al.) paper on which is proposed a 928 orbit periodicity (they fall respectively on the sector 8 and sector 40 boundaries exactly - taking a boundary as a calendar day). The 928 days are divisible by one the template's 52 standard (29-day) sectors 32 times, and 3.2 is found the difference between 1/8th orbit and 8 x 24.2 (from which the proposed 492 signal followed).
1574.4 - 96 = 1478.4
1478.4 / 52.8 (completed sector ratio key) = 28
As a number, 28 marks the sector denomination (applying the most logical sequence) to the opposite pole of the fulcrum (that's for another day too). The fulcrum bisects the template, in 2017 it is marked by the end of sector 54 with the start of sector 1 on Aug 24. Following the line through to the opposite orbit, the opposite pole of the fulcrum falls on October 20 2019 marked by the end of sector 27 with the start of sector 28. Though here it gets (a little) complicated, because in the model the fulcrum advances every 2.5 orbits (the fulcrum cycle - for another day too). Applying the ratio signature method to π, along with divisions (in tenths and hundredths) of the 96 Master Key yields so much. For now a recap on the '3014.4' structure key - another 'key', sorry !
314 (π x 100 - remainder) x 9.6 = 3014.4
3014.4 + 134.4 (abstract ellipse) = 3148.8 (2 x the orbit 1574.4)
3014.4 - 134.4 = 2880 (2 x 1440)
The ratio signature method applied to π yields much more, but for now I hope this helps. The more abstract dip signifiers, the Skara-Angkor Signifier - I'll cover those soon.

2023.02.03 03:30 Robin_RhombusHead Nether Chest

The Nether Chest would be a new Chest variant added to Minecraft. They function as a way of linking multiple points of storage together over a distance with the use of channels.

The Nether Chest is crafted with eight Nether planks (Crimson and Warped are interchangeable) surrounding a piece of Obsidian.
The Skeleton Key is crafted with seven Clay surrounding a Skeleton Key with a Gold Ingot at the top of the recipe. (This produces two Skeleton Keys, similarly to the Smithing Template recipe.)

The Nether Chest would not be able to be opened at first, displaying the message “Chest is locked!”. To use the chest, the player would be required to use a Skeleton Key on it. When a Skeleton Key is used on the Nether Chest, it will be permanently unlocked. If that Skeleton Key is used on another Nether Chest, it will sync the item storage between them for as many times as the player has chests.
Nether Chests have multiple channels that they can sync to, depending on which Skeleton Key is used (see the section on Skeleton Keys for more).
As opposed to the 27 item slots other chests can carry, the Nether Chest only has 18 slots.
Nether Chests are compatible with Hoppers and Hopper Minecarts but do not drop their items when destroyed. They output a Redstone signal when hooked up to a Comparator.

Skeleton Keys

Each Skeleton Key has a unique tag assigned to it that is attached to the world file, similarly to Maps. This tag acts as a unique channel that only the Skeleton Key and duplicates made of it can create new Nether Chests that link back to it.
Skeleton Keys cannot override existing Nether Chests.
They are found in Nether Fortress loot chests at a 10% rate.

The Nether Chest would look similar to a Chest with the palette of a Smithing Table and has a black lock.
The Skeleton Key is a golden key with a skull moulded into the design with two teeth protruding from the shaft.

The Nether Chest acts as a quick way for players to transport items from their mines directly into their storage system.
They allow for community storage without the entire server being able to access the items within, allowing for transfers of things such as mail for example.
They allow for the construction of different, programmable nodes in Redstone contraptions.
They can also be used to build instantly refilling or unfilling chests without any visible storage units or pipelines.

Additional Notes

I kept seeing the idea for a community chest being brought up as of late and the same issue kept being brought up, being that anyone can access it from anywhere, so I threw my hat in the ring to try and come up with a solution that, at least I personally think, solves the issue and allows for even more to be built upon it.

2023.02.03 03:18 lechepicante Zombie Land Saga: Gaiden—Explaining the lore of the manga

Zombie Land Saga: Gaiden—Explaining the lore of the manga
In this long post, I bring you an analysis and explanation of all the lore that was revealed throughout this Tae's prequel manga called Zombie Land Saga Gaiden: The First Zombie. It should be noted that the manga is canon, so what is revealed here also affects the anime. It has many spoilers from the manga and anime, read carefully!

Saga's curse

Saga's curse is inspired by the historical accounts of Xu Fu, an ancient Chinese alchemist who supposedly visited Saga in his search for the Elixir of Immortality.
The origin of the power of Saga's curse is in Saga itself, in this case, its inhabitants. Large gatherings of people in one place generate a great deal of power that is harnessed for both curse and prosperity. The power of the curse and prosperity are together like two sides of the same coin, so the more prosperity there is, the stronger the curse will be.
First page of the manga
Its entire goal is to make Saga fade into obscurity and eventually cease to exist, both physically and conceptually. While it does this primarily by killing people, it is also open to manipulating situations to mentally break people.
The curse takes different forms over time. For example, during the Meiji era, the curse manifested as natural disasters and tricked people into going to war and destruction. In the late 1980s, when there was a period of relative normality and prosperity, the curse was embodied by Sagako, curses with physical forms that terrified the residents of Saga.

What are the Sagako?

Saga's curse has changed forms over the centuries. During 1989, the curse materializes in Sagako's physical forms that manipulate and terrorize the residents of Saga. Initially, they had no physical form and the curses manifested as natural disasters and ruin for the people of Saga, leading to their destruction. Prosperous times have given the curse the strength to manifest as Sagako.
All the Sagakos seen in the manga
The Sagako do not directly intent to harm humans, but seek to eliminate those who bring prosperity to Saga. Sagakos take the form of living or inanimate beings as a reflection of the power of a prosperous area in Saga, and hold on to the power of the area's prosperity. Sagako's purposes, while antagonistic to Saga's prosperity, are also antagonistic to the manifestation area; a Sagako that appears in an agricultural area will be antagonistic to the prosperity of the area, so it will seek to destroy or leave the soil infertile. So with all manifestations of this curse.
Defeating a particular Sagako might provide immediate relief to a problem, but it doesn't address the underlying issue that caused Sagako to manifest that way in the first place. To effectively defeat a Sagako, they must be purified with onions that grow on the Hyodo farm.
A Sagako explodes when leaving Saga
The power level of prosperous areas or crowded areas is what allows the curse to spawn the Sagakos in these places. Likewise, the Sagako can only exist with Saga's energy, this being their source of power and what keeps them alive. If they leave the prefecture, for example, their power source disappears and they die.

Onions and purification

The onions from this farm have the particularity of serving as a means to seal the Sagakos and the people who are inside them. The land of the Hyodo farm is special; long exposure to love, gave the earth the strength and power to seal curses through Saga's Prosperity. Without this power, Sagako could not be sealed and purified.
The power of onions can only be used by the Hyodo twins: Eikichi Hyodo and Yuko Hyodo.
Using onions, Sagako's curses are properly sealed, causing them to lose their power through the Misogi power transmitted by the onions. By purifying them, their souls also become harmless. Purifying them not only removes their power and seals them, but the onions with Sagako inside, when cared for with love, transmit the sealer's feelings to Sagako's souls.
While they can seal curses, they have been seen to seal humans when their misogi power is weak, and they are about to die. Yuko Hyodo is one of the humans who contained herself inside one of these onions to be revived later. Onions can also act as incubators for the Sagako within them.
A Sagako is sealed

Elixir of immortality

It is mentioned by Jofuku as the origin of Saga's curse.
The ruler of Qin, Qin Shi Huang, feared death and sought a way to live forever. He entrusted Xu Fu with the task of retrieving the elixir of life from immortals, including the magician Anqi Sheng, who supposedly lived on Penglai Mountain in the eastern sea.

According to the tradition of Saga City, Saga Prefecture, Xu Fu arrived at the Ariake Sea, where he decided to float a cup on the water and go ashore where he made landfall. As such, the place where he landed the cup is known as “Bubai”, which literally means “floating cup”.
Xu Fu reached the top of Mount Kinryu, where he met a hermit and obtained the elixir of immortal life. The name of this elixir is Furofuki, and it still grows on Mount Kinryu today.
Jofuku mentions that the origin of the curse was the search for immortality.
Something to highlight about the functioning of immortality is that it seems that the subject depends totally on the very concept of Saga. Even if Saga physically disappears from the map like in 1876, Saga will somehow be inside the heart and will not be forgotten from people's memories.
It should be noted that if the Jofuku elixir is given by Anqi Sheng, the “immortal” Taoist for the Taoist understanding are not exactly “immortal” as in the Western understanding of “eternal” or “unaged” forever; instead, they would just live an incredibly long life and eventually die of old age at some point.
Jofuku ages quickly
Jofuku's immortality properties seem to go this way a bit; he will live as long as Saga continues to exist. As he says: «I am Saga. No, Saga is me» It is strongly implied that his life and his immortality properties are tied to Saga itself. It seems that this goes beyond making someone immortal, since it is shown in the prequel manga that he can age and rejuvenate in a matter of days depending on the state and prosperity of Saga. This process also alters Jofuku physically and mentally to the point of leaving him incapacitated for the rest of the manga.

Saga's Prosperity

It is the supernatural force that opposes Saga's curse. Prosperity manifests as objects with purification properties.
Saga's prosperity is the opposite of Saga's curse. While Saga's curse seeks to end Saga and thus Jofuku, prosperity seems to be the force that keeps Saga and Jofuku alive. Both forces are two sides of the same coin and operate throughout the human world.
Curse and prosperity are two sides of the same coin.
Prosperity can occur in places where there are many multitudes of people or places that may be prosperous in the future, generating great power. It can also manifest through those who bring prosperity to save Saga, granting them great power in equal measure.

He is the immortal bartender of the “New Jofuku” bar. He is also the surrogate father of Kiichi Momozaki and Tae Yamada, and the mentor of Kotaro Tatsumi. His character is based on the alchemist of the same name who served the emperor during the Qin Dynasty, who was sent to search for the Elixir of Immortality.
Jofuku through the ages
Because Saga was on the rise at the time of the manga, his appearance is much younger than what is seen in the anime. He wears his Bartender outfit, but his body is much stockier and shows muscle. His hair is blonde and partly long. Due to Sagako's high presence in the area and the damage caused by them, he begins to age rapidly over the course of a single day, aging 10 years at a time.
He leads the Saga Sagako Busters and the one who told them that the end of Saga will mark the end of the world, so they must stop Sagako before they destroy Saga.

Tae Yamada

One day, her mother found a strange “baby” and since then, they spend even more time at the university. On her birthday, the government found out about her parents' unauthorized investigations. And when they were about to take the child away, Sagako was born, killing her parents. After that day, Tae lives with a feeling of revenge against Sagako.
She commanded the group of Sagako hunters “Saga Sagako Busters” which is responsible for dealing with Sagako's curses. Normally, she is quite composed, but can be just as flashy and flamboyant as her fellow Busters, particularly Hanako, all while maintaining her stern confidence. Despite being bossy at first, her relationship with Eikichi improves over time. Going from being someone cold and without feelings towards him, to someone more open and understanding of situations.
Oh, and she also reveals that she wanted to be an idol like Junko Konno and form her idol group along with Yuko.

She is the main antagonistic curse of the manga. She manifests as a human girl, but with a mask of different entities from Japanese folklore on her head with shaggy, disheveled hair. She wears a white robe and has nothing else to wear. Behind her multiple masks, she takes the appearance of a human girl with white hair.
She is a curse based human girl, so she behaves like one. Her objective was to search for her mother, this being the reason for the kidnappings.
Magatsuhi's Sagako form
Tae discovers that Magatsuhi's goal was to seek motherly love and be loved so that she would never feel alone again. Just like Tae always wanted with her parents. Finally understanding the curse, Tae sacrifices herself, forgives herself, and accepts Magatsuhi to seal the curse within her own body.
Magatsuhi-no-kami (in Japanese, “kami of the force of misfortune” or “God of calamities”). In Shinto, divine beings that cause sin, pollution, disaster, and evil. Although it bears the name of the God of calamities, it is really a Sagako.
Magatsuhi's human form
Like all of Saga's curses, her goal was to target those who brought prosperity to the prefecture. Basically, implying that if Tae's parents spent more time with her daughter, they would bring prosperity. Likewise, curses only take the form of underlying issues in the area of appearance, in this case, Magatsuhi takes the form of a human girl as a reflection of Tae Yamada's parents abandoning her daughter.

Fusions between humans and Sagako

Yuko is released from her onion after she sealed the last Sagako, fused with Sagako Niji-no matsubara and having large horns. As revealed in this last chapter, when curses and people are fused through the power of onions, both are fused together.
Yuko with the Sagako of the pines
But here between Tae, who used only the Misogi power of the onions to seal Magatsuhi inside her own body, dying in the process. Tae did not use an onion as a means to purify the Sagako, rather, she used her body and her soul to purify Magatsuhi and seal her within herself. Thus, it is implied that Tae's “zombie” personality in the anime is actually because her body houses the fused souls of Tae and Magatsuhi. As seen in the anime, she starts to develop her own consciousness as the manga progresses, so I don't think Gaiden's Tae is coming back, rather we are seeing a new Tae.
Tae dies after merging with Magatsuhi
The first emotion that was born in Tae's heart as a zombie was her familial love for Sakura Minamoto, in which she sees her as a mother figure.

Sakura, daughter of Yuko?

In the last chapter of the manga, which takes place in 1994, it is revealed that Yuko is now married with children. While we're never told who Yuko daughter is, considering Yuko was fused with Sagako, her daughter could have inherited supernatural properties, so she's probably Sakura Minamoto.
Why Sakura? In the panel shown, only girls are seen playing, one of these being Yuko's daughter. Also, if you pay attention to the manga, it's quite apparent that the Hyodo twins share a lot of similarities in personality with Sakura.
Furthermore, Sakura has always been the victim of Saga's curse since her youth, as if she was the focus of all these attacks. If Sakura is Yuko's daughter, and she inherited the power of this curse, she would make more sense because she is so good at everything and brings so much prosperity wherever she goes, since she would literally have supernatural powers on her side. The curse, on the other hand, would see her as a threat if she is even successful at anything of hers, so she always works harder against her so that she never brings prosperity.

Implications for the future

Will Sagako return? Answer: yes. As such, they are just curses that manifest when there is a lot of prosperity in Saga, so with Franchouchou's concert at the end of the last episode, Saga's power allowed the curse to manifest its physical form again.
Aliens or curses?
Will Tae wake up? I don't believe. Her arc is already finished in the manga, but the zombie Tae is just starting to gain self-awareness, and it's two souls in one (or maybe it was just Magatsuhi's soul that controlled the body). And in case she awakens, her personality would be like Tae from the final arc, so we won't have to worry too much.
What is Saga? Jofuku mentions that saving the world means saving Saga. Maybe, Saga is really another existential plane that only manifests in the Saga prefecture? Nobody knows.

2023.02.03 03:00 mechanicalhorizon [F76] How do you export an assets textures/details from Nifskope?

I've been trying to export the texture/colodiffuse map of an asset in Niskope, but the method I found online doesn't work.
All I get is the UV set wireframe. The colors/diffuse/textures aren't there.
The tutorial says to right click on the object, then in the menu choose BsTrishape, right-click and choose texture, then export template.
A small menu comes up, but nothing I choose exports the colodiffuse/textures, just the UV wireframe.
Is exporting the colodiffuse map possible?

2023.02.03 02:19 esporx 3 years ago, a high level developer and CTO defends CIG against the ignorant criticisms of peasants.

I see a lot of people are angry and upset about the revised road map. Revisions like this happen all the time in the software development world. When things don't go as planned the first reaction among the devs is denial, "We can make it", and eventually followed by acceptance. I'm a software developer and CTO, and I would like to explain some of the hardships CIG seem to be facing. I don't know that much about their specific process, but I do know software development.
The COVID-19 have screwed up a lot of development across the world. I find myself working from home, not being able to go into the office. Unlike popular opinion, creative work like game development works best in an office with other people. You can get instant feedback and understand all nuances in constructive critique given by your team. This is harder when WFH. It's easier to crunch things by yourself, but anything that requires teamwork is a time sink and draining when WFH.
When it comes to the road map. I personally don't care about the gameplay and content cards. They are not interesting in the long run during the alpha phase. Adding another landing zone won't make the game more playable. They need to work more on the backend and fix the underlying infrastructure.
Every software project needs a stable foundation to work. This takes time and is an iterative process. In the first iteration, you build something to show the CEO/board that the concept works. The code is not pretty, hard to maintain and changing just a small piece can result in weird bugs. When the project is green lighted, you refactor most of the code, start over and then do it properly. This will take longer to build, but by building a proper foundation where everything is built systematically and is configurable, you save yourself a lot of pain later when the product goes live.
Some things in SC are just horribly broken, and as a software developer I can tell what's a quick proof of concept CIG built to show people that the concept works. The older ships are the ones with most bugs, and CIG are pushing out more ships without fixing the old ones. This might seem offensive to some backers, but the fact is that for every ship they build, they learn something new, build a new system/framework to produce the new ship faster and better than previous ones. It's an iterative process. If you are curious on how the ships will look and feel when the game is done, look at the latest one. Currently, the Carrack is the best ship, and soon will be the Prowler. The tech they used to build the prowler was not available when they built the first ships, and there is no reason for them to fix the old ones until they are satisfied with the "ship tech".
The same thing goes for the Orison landing zone. They need to complete New Babbage before they start working on Orison. While building New Babbage, they probably built a lot of tools and systems to speed up the development; and they learned a lot of new things that will be useful for Orison. If they start working on Orison before New Babbage is fully completed, they will just end up having to redo the work later. Adding new landing zones is a test for how fast a new one can be built. With every iteration, they are getting faster and better at pushing out new cities/landing zones. When New Babbage is done, they will have a retrospect meeting where they discuss what they can do better with Orison, and which new tools they need to build. Here we can find a dissonance between the community and CIG. The community wants content, but it’s still alpha. Content is not the goal here. CIG’s goal for building new landing zones is to improve their process of making a new landing zone. If they push out a new landing zone without improving their process and their tools, then it’s pointless. The community gets their content, but CIG does not move forward in their goal to build a massive playable universe.
The truth is that CIG's ambition is too big to do by hand. Right now they have 600 employees, but it would not be better with 6000 employees. The only way to pull this project off is by building tools that build a universe. The new Planet Tech is a great example of that. It took one dev 2 weeks to build 3 moons. That would not have been possible one year ago. For SC to be scalable, they need to be able to build an entire star system that way. That means more procedurally generated content, with addition of machine learning to make it feel alive and natural. They need to have a tool/system/framework for everything. If they are to build things by hand like before, the game won’t be ready for another 20 years.
All the tools they need to build SC might not be visible on the road map. But they are the only way forward. And CIG needs to prioritize. Some people have been asking for a server queue, but a better use of their time is to work on server meshing.
The things that we should really be looking forward to since it enables scaling:
Then there are things that just need to be grinded when the tools/systems are in place:
When finding bugs in SC, one also needs to think if the bug is due to laziness, or lack of a system/framework/tool.
The weapon racks not working for storing weapons is due to lack of a persistence system for example. The devs could spend a few weeks to fix them as they are now without iCache, just like ships parked inside a large ship persists. But it would be a far better use of their time to work on iCache. Not only will that fix the weapon racks, but they also fix plenty of other things at the same time. When faced with bugs the devs need to decide if they want to fix the direct bug (the symptom), or fix the underlying system that caused it. Sometimes that means lots of refactoring work.
This is just speculation, I've been working with software development long enough to see the patterns and understand some of CIG's decisions. That being said, I hope they abandon some of the very lofty goals stated early on in favor for realistic ones. I doubt 100 star systems is realistic. It's better to do a few star systems really well with fun an engaging gameplay.

2023.02.03 02:10 Ih8Wypipo519 Why are relationships between White men and women of color so rare ?

First a preface I have lurked this sub for a bit and am posting this to ask for thoughts on a new observation I have made that I might write my Bachelor's thesis on. I made a new reddit account and joined all sorts of weird subreddits to research this topic but your feedback would be very appreciated. Quite obviously this observation is about interracial dating and this is the only sub where you can discuss interracial dating as a concept. I have ADHD and can be quite scatter brained so I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Also I don't want to disclose my race at least not yet because I feel like it could bias responses. If your wondering about my user name I will explain later in the post. My thesis is this
White men in The United States and countries like the US are the least desirable race of men to women not of their race and maybe even to women of their own race. Why do I think this ? A lot of you might believe the opposite of this to be true so how could I have come to this conclusion. A few observations that caused me to arrive at this conclusion. I will start with the more anecdotal stuff from my personal life and then discuss more quantifiable data.
In High School and even now in University I almost never saw Women of Color dating White men and while I didn't keep count I kind of think I saw more White women dating non White men then White women dating White men. One day I walked past like a support group type thing for lonely men. It was a club at the school and it was pretty much all White men except 2 East Asian men and one Indian man.
Another thing is that I started listening to more music. I listened to rap and most rappers are Black and most rappers I listened to were Black. Despite being very different in style and tone a running theme was how much women liked them. I would listen to music from White male Musicians and a big theme was how much women didn't like them or how they had relationship problems or a breakup. This was most notable in emo music but it was even in raps made by White men.
On a related note of media consumption. When I went to college I got my own Netflix account and started watching more TV and Movies. The representation feels skewed towards Black male White female relationships. Most of you could probably name a bunch of fictional BMWF relationships off the top of your head but I doubt any of you could name a super popular example of a White male and a Woman of color dating. The biggest I can think of is Zendaya and Tom Holland in the new Spiderman movies but even then Zendaya is half White so that relationship isn't really interracial in a sense. The second example I have seen is to all the boys I've loved before. But in the Netflix adaptation which is what most people know the story for they gave the woman of color protagonist Lara Jean a White dad making her in universe half White. Apparently this wasn't the case in the books but I don't know for sure. I have seen so many women of color and White men married to women of color dislike this trend.
Seeing this I decided to do more research. I was shocked to find a lot of people saying the opposite of what I noticed that White men were in fact the most desired race of men. I thought there was no way this could be right so I did some research for myself. The dating site data that people cite is pretty old. As in the newest data I could find that claimed White men were the most desirable was from 2013. A decade ago. TikTok the biggest website in the world wasn't even a thing when this data came out. Also even in this data White men didn't have that big of a lead.
On the topic of TikTok I was never into TikTok that much. I tried getting into it but just couldn't. Maybe I am to weird but it took to long to find content I liked, but I am alone in this opinion because it is the biggest website in the world and it's where the people are at. I looked on TikTok one night with my thesis in the back of my head and decided to look at some Hashtags. The WMAF (White male Asian female) Hashtag has 7.6 million views from all the videos that use it. As far as I can tell most of these videos are negative. The AMWF(Asian male White female) hashtag has 549.3 million views. Exponentially more and as far as I looked most of the videos were positive. TikToks related to "date white men" have 158.3 million combined views. TikToks related to "white women date Black men" alone had 511.4 million views. Mind you the one for White men was all women dating White men not just one race and it still got dwarfed by one race of women making videos about dating Black men. I have more examples but would like to move on to my other points.
I then focused my research on reddit. since reddit is text based it is easier to find and filter through information on specific topics. I made a new reddit account and decided to join a bunch of subs related to women of color who wanted to date White men. Only to realize there aren't any. Ok I am exaggerating but only slightly. There really aren't that many subs for women of color who want to date White men the same way there is for Black or even Asian men. It got to the point where I joined subs that had one post about a Woman of Color interested in White men and just hoped I would find more data to compare. The subs I did find didn't have many people either. I then realized another thing, I am not convinced any of the women posting to these subs genuinely like White men. Maybe a few of them do but for the most part all of them are clearly posting templates to these subs to promote other stuff for money. You go to the subs for White women who like Black men and you don't see any of this. The women there are genuinely passionate about Black men and are rarely selling anything. I then asked why aren't they selling anything ? I think the reason is because the model of pretending you love a race of men and are only attracted to that race of men in order to get them to buy your stuff wouldn't work on Black men or even Asian men. The reason why is because they don't need to buy the fantasy of a lot of women of different races liking them they already have it.
The last thing about this reddit experiment even though it is still ongoing is that these subs are why I chose what I did for my name. I didn't want anyone to think I was a White Chauvinist racist.

Do an experiment right now. Pick 2 social media websites type in "White boyfriend" and "Black boyfriend" I picked reddit and Youtube let's see what I get. On Youtube the first 3 videos I get are "fresh prince of Bel Air White boyfriend" which seems to be making fun of Black women with White boyfriends. Then you have " Star Introduces her boyfriend to her parents" which is a clip from a movie which seems like more of the same. Lastly you have "IS my boyfriend gay" implying that White boyfriends are gay or feminine. For Black Boyfriend the first results are actual women dating Black men. "racist dad attacks daughters black boyfriend. "brought my black boyfriend to meet my Korean mom and "what to know about dating Black men". These results are positive and grant advice on dating black men while the results for White boyfriend almost treat the idea of having a White boyfriend as a joke.
On reddit the first result was "I feel guilty for having a White boyfriend" the top results for subreddits no joke are "Queen of Spades" a subreddit about girls with Black boyfriends. The opposite of what I looked up "cuckhold" which has bad implications and the relationships subreddit. The top results for Black boyfriend include Queen of spades and cuckhold again with slutty confession being the third place. With every post about how great Black boyfriends are. You see the point but try it for yourself on any social platform the results will be the same.

2023.02.03 01:14 Faulty_W1res Creating REALLY Bad Remix Ideas Every Day: Part 74 (Grid Runners)

Grid Runners time. The fast paced, bedrock map based minigame of completing the challenge as fast as you can. Today, it's getting changed by me, but you already knew that, didn't you? Well, off with the remix.
This time, I was thinking of calling it "Double Trouble," but MCC 21 Battle Box took it first so instead, I'm calling it "The Other Double Trouble."
This concept is very simple, as with a few of my grid runners remixes. here's the premise, which you may have guessed from the name.
Some rooms now have 2 objectives. For each room, 2 previous rooms are merged, and to complete the room, you need to do both of the objectives.
I've counted, and I believe there are 13 individual types of rooms. This means 3 rooms will be as normal, while 5 will be a double objective room.
Some examples I'm thinking of combining are stuff like Defeat the Beasts and Gather the Items, where some of the items (but not all) the items you need are crafted from the mob drops that you are defeating. Another example, Bridge the Gap and Eat the Cakes, where you somehow need to bridge the key to the bakery across to where you can get it.
These double rooms could be a fun little twist on the game. It's sort of similar to the actual GR remix, but different enough, so I'll take it. Either way, tomorrow, I'll have Remix 75 up for you. Three quarters of the way to 100. Can't wait.

2023.02.03 00:44 The_Beast178 Question for people who actually enjoy battle royales, is splatter Royale good/fun?

So I'll be honest, I'm biased as fuck on this topic so I personally can't make a fair judgment on splatter Royale. I can say that I've never enjoyed a single battle Royale (except kinda rumbleverse, RIP) as I generally just don't like the concept. I've given them a fair shot but cannot enjoy them. Apex, warzone, fortnite etc. I accept they're good games In the sense they are successful and people enjoy them, they just aren't my cup of tea.
So personally I tried 1 single match of splatter Royale, realized it's no bettedifferent than any of the other dozens of battle royales I don't enjoy, and have decided I will likely never touch the mode again. And with the disappointing update to the main game, it looks like I'll be setting this game down for a few months and focus on other games.
But my question to the people who actually like other BRs, is this one good? Does it hold up compared to other battle royales? Or is it just a desperate attempt to get new players in the door? Personally I think sabers time and resources would have been better spent focusing on the main mode (new map/demon, new mechanics etc) but as I said before I'm incredibly biased against BRs. It's easily my least favorite genre of game.

2023.02.03 00:40 Td01241 FF16 Trailer

Things we know
- This is SE tag line for the entire game. I do believe its a double entendre but this is the know section.- The game will largely be about something called the war of the Eikons- We have currently seen and confirmed they will be Ifrit, Shiva, Phoenix, Garuda, Odin, Bahamat, Titan, Ramuh- We know who the kingdoms each rely on a crystal for ether with two sharing one which is what is all likely to kick off the assassination's of the duke of Rosaria two of our three main trio the Father and Ward keeper of Joshua, Clive, and Jennifer- We know this is an inside man, and we know this is the first time Clive brings forth Ifrit it is unknown but could be likely said Joshua dies at least for now- Jill is taken and captured by another warring factions fighting Titans eikons country forced to fight against her will, this is the huge Shiva Titan youve seen a ton- Eventually our main party will consist of Clive (Ifrit and only main controllable, Cid who is Rama, Jill who is Shiva, and the cute doggie.- We know the Holy Brick of Simpire began this war on Rosaria and their crown prince is Eikon of Bahaumat
- Barnabas Tharmr - The Dominant of Odin from the eastern continent of Walid along with Garudas dominant. Barnabas Tharmr arrived on the shores of Ash as a wanderer - with not land or title of his own. It was his skill with a blade that won him a kingdom.
We know the game will have not one but two time skips Clive as a 14/15, Mid to late 20s. and 30 something.- We can say with 95% certainty the death of the duke happens swiftly possibly killing Joshua (who is the phoenix big hints) and spreading the other siblings Jill and Clive far and wide
Some Speculation
- First it has been noticed quite often there are 2 versions of each Eikon one with red and blue fire? What could it be?- We known Clive can fight other dominants in sort of demi human form and also Use powers gifted to him via Eikons think a skill tree with unlimited amount of wipes and re allocation to allow experimentation- So, this leads me to believe the Story will more or less be this; Clive will go about trying to gather the Eikons as it were to take revenge on an entity so powerful it could be a god of this world or something "bigger" which also means he'd likely go so far in his revenge he would just destroy all of it. I think SE wants to leave the "Crystal" concept behind here so we may get two endings one where we achieve the goal and just wipe it all away, and two we are put down by our former allies and brother and sister. I mean the trailer ends with what seems blue meteors falling down with Clive saying it all dies today
So talk about whatever? Ask anything. I will post some pics below that are SWEET get some cool gameplay stills and shots of the main 4 party

FF16 Revenge

Imo this is 30s Clive and he has been touched up big time

![img](z8doy509qufa1 " Our main for from behind approaching something? Most likely one of the crystal ")

Very likely Clive first becoming IFrit

![img](69n6l1cmqufa1 " Our main party minus Rama guy Cid so Clive Wolfo and Jill likely looking out over the Northern Fallen Territories where Jill is born but how she became a Ward to their dad ")
Odin Clashing with Bahamut

This is super interesting. It shows a close up of Clive 1v1 wirh an enemy named Sleepnir. We can see he has three eikons very very akin to Ghost of Tshushima stances but each change moveset. Here he has Titan, Garadua, idk the red one. The blue bars below health im assuming is this version of ATB
Here we have Clive doing an AEO in Garuda mode i think Rama and idk who else is on his 3 plate. It gives you an idea of how numbers and enemies on field will be.

Okay here it shows your ally Ramahs dominant off screen doing lightning storm. You can see Rama is equipped Shiva and at a loss for 3 Midgar Zolum maybe. His yellow bars under health may indicate special ally attack up

Clive as Ifrit vs Garuda and yes we will be playing all these out

This includes information about how players can enhance Clive’s abilities, the companions players will meet throughout the game, and how the special “Summon” actions will function. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
As a Dominant, Clive will be able to channel various abilities attributed to specific summons, called Eikons in the game. Players will be able to switch between each of these “Summons” in real time and make use of their specific abilities and attacks on the fly. Players will also be fighting these iconic Final Fantasy summons in game as well, through large scale battles. More information on this will appear sometime in the future.
Alongside general combat details, Square Enix further extrapolated on the “Story” and more “Action” focused modes players can choose from in Final Fantasy XVI. The story mode will also allow for summon augmented attacks to be executed with ease, and and to automatically avoid attacks with some of these accessories. Additionally, players will be able to level up various abilities associated with Clive’s weapons and the abilities associated with the various Dominants.
Torgal, Clive’s wolf-do web page at bottom g, will function as a companion throughout the game. Players can instruct Torgal to attack, and to even engage enemies together. Additionally, Clive will be joined by other characters which will function as AI controlled companions. This includes Cid and Jill.
web page at bottom where ive pulled snipits of the following from, you will wanna see it all.

![img](uwibqbelrufa1 " The third-person action of Final Fantasy XVI is real-time and reactive to your input, most similar to Devil May Cry. This is telegraphed in the trailer by the use of Clive’s numerous different attacks while only having a singular attack button. These attacks could change based on your directional input, as well as whether you are on the ground, aerial, tapping the button or holding it. ")
Enemies and bosses alike also have an additional staggered state that you can build up with attacks. After you stagger them, enemies can go into a crumpled state where you can exploit them into a highly-damaging combo.

![img](q7y7k80rrufa1 " [quote]Eikons can be likened to a skill loadout that you will be able to actively switch between mid-combat. If you possess more than one Eikon, you can switch them with L2. Eikons give you a different set of four skills that you can use that possess some kind of elemental potency. Having Phoenix equipped gives you access to a default elemental cast, such as Fire, in addition to having two unique moves. ")
These are specific moves that can be used when using a modifier button such as R2, then pressing triangle or square. These moves can be used on a cooldown, as we see them grey out after usage. The way these controls are mapped makes this quite similar to how Dragon's Dogma is controlled - and these games of course share a lead combat designer.
Eikon Skills and their elemental casts could be used to enhance damage on certain enemy types, and could also affect their stagger gauge. This is marked on the HUD with a color of damage in addition to a multiplier that appears after your attack.
Finally, each Eikon will also give you access to a unique skill that can be used with the circle button. This is likely to spend a portion of the yellow meter that you see underneath your health bar and can be built up by attacking enemies. Garuda’s Deadly Embrace will pull the enemy toward you, or could even trigger a toppled state, as we saw when Clive used it to topple a Coeurl, which allowed him to chain into a flurry of additional attacks on the helpless enemy.
They go so fucking deep down into the mechanics of each and every eikon and skill set and moves and more ill post a bit then the web page.

By examining the trailer closely and carefully frame-by-frame analysing the user interface, we can transcribe move names and pull out the move sets of several of these beasts, seeing how they augment Clive's fighting style.

![img](v7f1oma0sufa1 " Elemental Cast: Fire Eikon Ability: Phoenix Shift Eikon Skill: Scarlet Cyclone Eikon Skill: Rising Flames Phoenix appears to be the default Eikon that you’ll kick off with in Final Fantasy XVI, as we see Clive accessing Phoenix’s skills without the multi-Eikon symbol in the top-left corner of the screen. This gives him access to Rising Flames, a launcher attack that uppercuts your enemies into the air. This can be followed up with Scarlet Cyclone, an aerial barrage of attacks. We have not yet seen exactly what Phoenix Shift does, but judging by the name, it could be some form of dodge or parry. ")

![img](so9m14v2sufa1 " Elemental Cast: Dark Eikon Ability: Arm of Darkness Eikon Skill: Heaven’s Cloud Eikon Skill: Gungnir ")
quote:We see Clive use Gungnir in the latest trailer, which is a ground-based flurry of attacks. Heaven’s Cloud could also potentially be an aerial area-of-effect attack or launcher based on the icon, but we’ve yet to see it in action. This is the same for Arm of Darkness, which could potentially be a form of command grab or high-stagger skill.
They do one of those for Titan Shiva and Garuda too then opine on who else is gonna make an appearance.
quote:We’ve yet to see Eikons such as Bahamut or Ifrit playable in-game, and there are potentially more of them that we have yet to see, further widening the numerous skills and playstyles that you will be able to utilise. If we're following the traditionally present elements in Final Fantasy, notably missing are the Water and Holy-type Eikons.Leviathan seems like the obvious, slightly boring choice for a Water element Eikon, but we could also see Bismark or Famfrit make a return if they really want to get into the weeds with it. The Holy or Light-based Eikon could also potentially be Ultima, Alexander, or Madeen. The Ivalice summons like Famfrit or Madeen could be an incredibly unique appearance from Summons that we have never seen in a mainline Final Fantasy title.

Processing img d5fig2k7sufa1...

![img](1e8dne89sufa1 " As we see Clive use Odin’s skills, we see a gauge build up to the left of the screen. It is possible that when the gauge fills, you are able to summon the Eikon who will do an attack for a healthy dose of extra damage. The team could be developing the system and gauge in a similar way to the way that ranks are built up in Devil May Cry V. ")
Since there are so many similarities to Devil May Cry, it could also be a form-change, where Clive could partially transform into that Eikon in a similar way to how the Devil Trigger works. We actually see this in the trailer as Hugo Kopka faces off against Clive in a partially Titan-like form.
On this topic, also look to the key artwork of Clive - where he has one arm partially ablaze and covered in spiky appendages. Could this be a hint of the power of Ifrit within him, something the Dominance trailer's stinger also appears to wink towards?

2023.02.03 00:02 Alcaeus6 Six years on, how has Heroes affected the other games and the fandom?

With the sixth anniversary of Heroes and the recent release of Engage, I'm wondering how it's affected the design of the "core" games and how it's affected the fandom.
Three other FE games have come out since Heroes' release in February 2017: Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Three Houses, and now Engage. Echoes is largely mechanically faithful to the original Gaiden, and came out too soon to the original release to really be impacted by the mobile game in its development. Three Houses, I think, shares Heroes' core design philosophy of building up a unit from scratch and developing them through skill acquisition; yeah, the process isn't exactly the same, but that still separates the two from other FE games in terms of handling recruitment and unit development. And Engage takes a lot of influence from Heroes: there's obviously the Emblem and Bond rings, but the increased focus on the weapon triangle, the smaller movement ranges and map sizes, and even the concept of "skill inheritance" are wither lifted from or inspired by Heroes. Even if you don't play Heroes it still is affecting the "main games" in terms of design philosophies.
In terms of the fandom, I think Heroes has done a lot to popularize older games. Reinhardt is probably the poster boy for this, since before the game only Thracia fans could recognize him, whereas now millions now use The ReinhardtTM. It's also borne out in CYL results, where pre-3DS games like The Blazing Blade and Genealogy have seemed to undergo a surge of character popularity.

2023.02.02 22:18 reddithrowawayx12345 AP twitch support needs to go. It breaks the rules of the game that make the game function properly and be enjoyable to play.

This post is not meant to be an expression that AP twitch support is objectively overpowered from a raw winrate perspective. This may be also true - I'm honestly not sure. This post is meant to explain that AP twitch support does not fit into League of Legends as a coherent multiplayer strategy game within the framework and internal rules that the game functions on.
League of Legends is fundamentally a strategy game that works within a coherent framework of fixtures and rules. There are more broad concepts like gold, player kills, map control, and objectives. As the level of play increases, there are additional strategic concepts like minion wave management, map control, jungle tracking, lane matchups, tempo, etc. Players understand and interact with the game via these strategic concepts. They are what makes League of Legends what it is and an enjoyable game to play.
AP twitch support breaks these rules. And as a consequence of breaking these rules, he makes the game less coherent and enjoyable for the other 9 players in the game. He makes the entire game all about him for the other 9 players and forces them to warp their otherwise correct and enjoyable gameplay within the LoL internal rules and framework in order to accommodate him breaking these rules.
Solo laners should not have to give up their first wave of cs because an enemy AP twitch support just happens to be in the game and not yet visible in the bot lane. Solo laners should not have to give up priority and map control (even in winning lanes) because AP twitch happens to leave vision in bot lane for a few seconds - something he is constantly doing as standard gameplay as a bot laner. Compare this situation to other roaming supports, who can be countered by wards. You cannot counter AP twitch support lane ganking you via stealth. I've even lane warded as a solo laner only for AP twitch support to kill it with a sweeper, and then I'm forced to give up 1 or 2 more waves of cs because he hasn't showed back bot lane yet.
This becomes an even greater problem because when played properly, it becomes a snowballing and compounding effect - the more you're forced to give up prio because of AP twitch support on the opposing team, the more the other team is able to establish dominant vision and map control, making you have to give up even more prio or making AP twitch support's ganks more deadly. The skill floor required to play this way by AP twitch support and his team is extremely low, but the corresponding skill floor and level of focus required by the opposing team to counter this is much much higher.
Yes, I am aware that there are "counters" to AP twitch support - your jungler can set up dives on the enemy bot lane adc if AP twitch support roams, your bot lane can pick powerful early game laners and win lane hard, etc. Again, same point as above: It's much harder to employ these strategies successfully than it is for the AP twitch support - all he has to do is....walk around the map in stealth and waddle up to solo laners from stealth and kill them. It takes virtually no skill or strategic planning.
And in the games that AP twitch support falls behind, he becomes useless to his team and free gold for the enemy. This is frustrating and un-fun for his teammates who now have a useless character on their team instead of *any* other real support character who can still contribute to the team even when they're behind. Again, like I pointed out above: It's an issue of one player forcing the other 9 players to have to warp their playstyle and gaming experience to accommodate him being able to break the rules of the game that make the game function.
I'm tired of this pick defining every other solo queue game that I play whether or not he's on my team or the opposing team. It's lame, it's not fun for the other 9 players, and it's not League of Legends. For the most part, Riot actually does a very good job balancing this game, despite what Reddit complainers might make you think. But AP twitch support is just not healthy for this game and it needs to be made deliberately un-viable with balance changes of some kind.

2023.02.02 21:28 zaririi The Truth About Feminism

A full essay critiquing Feminism by British author, YouTuber and women's advocate Zarina Macha.
The Lies of Feminism
Feminism comes from the Latin words ‘femme’ (meaning women) and ‘ism’ (meaning doctrine or school of thought). It literally means ‘women’s doctrine’ (so no, Feminism does not mean ‘equality’). If Feminism was about equality (which it isn’t and never has been), then there would be no need for a Womanist movement (a movement for black women, whom Feminism has done nothing for), or a men’s rights movement. We wouldn’t have Feminists and Egalitarians, because these two groups would be working together.
Feminism is based on two key lies: the first being that gender is a social construct, and the second being that human civilisation has always been some oppressive patriarchy where women were viewed as second-class citizens.
Let’s look at the first lie. Gender is a biological construct (not a social one) based on sex (which is defined by gametes; male sperm and female eggs). Gender roles refer to the roles men and women play in the conception and raising of children. Both men and women have a mix of feminine and masculine traits, it’s just that men happen to be more masculine and women happen to be more feminine. This is a generalisation, and some men are more feminine and some women are more masculine (and they deserve to live normally and not be reprimanded for being slightly outside the norm), but it doesn’t change this simple fact.
Even though we are now all being taught the absurd lie ‘there are more than two genders’, there are only two genders: male and female, and both play an important complimentary function in the raising and rearing of children. Men are typically better at certain activities (hunting, problem-solving, leading), and women are typically better at certain activities (facial recognition, emotional intuition, being community-oriented). Even contemporary Feminist writers like Kathleen Stock, Louise Perry and Julie Bindel are concerned with the erasure of female biology from contemporary discussions around women.
(Note: I have nothing against binary trans people and I respect the right of any adult trans man or trans woman to transition and live in their authentic gender identity. This doesn’t change the fact that there are only two genders; if anything, it simply reinforces it. One can only transition from male to female or vice versa.)
Most of the prominent Feminist thinkers (including Mary Wollstonecraft, Simone de Beauvoir, Betty Friedan, and Judith Butler) are/were women who went against the norm, and believed that women were ‘inferior to men’ for not being as interested in politics and intellectual discourse as they were. Instead of accepting that these women were different to the norm and perhaps not as interested in activities that most women liked (which every other non-Feminist woman has always done), they complained that they were being ‘oppressed’, despite being more privileged than most people who were on the planet at that time.
The second lie is that there’s a patriarchy oppressing women. As mentioned above, most of human society has involved men and women working together in complimentary gender roles for the bearing and raising of children (because again, men and women are typically different). Structures were created to allow women and men to function together for the betterment of society (back when people were more team-oriented and family-oriented than the angry misanthropic Feminists of today).
Feminists keep pushing the lie that a wife was a ‘man’s property’. When a man gets married, his wife becomes the most important person in his life. Someone to care for and look after. Very few men are genuine misogynists (history is full of courtly love, chivalry, and men professing love for women). No good father is going to allow his daughter to marry a man who will be oppressive and cruel towards her (especially as that man is going to become his son-in-law.) Most people in the past cared about family lineage, and it’s highly untrue that most fathers would have sat back and allowed their daughters to marry some horrible oppressive misogynistic man. This narrative is horribly sexist and misanthropic, and greatly undermines all of the things men do and have done for women. Fathers giving their daughters away symbolised a blessing that she would be loved and cared for by her husband, and that he would protect her, as that transfer of protection from the father has now gone to the husband. This is the woman who is going to be the mother of a man’s future children and become the daughter-in-law of the family she is now joining. Why would she be viewed as ‘inferior to her husband’ or as ‘oppressed’? It just doesn’t add up.
Statistically, women are less interested in politics than men. Feminism views this as ‘sexist’ which undermines women’s agency and personal choices. Women have always contributed to society in various ways. Women in Medieval England worked as nuns, teachers, nurses, writers, and were even as active as men in agricultural activities. Their roles in society were just as important and respected as men’s roles (even though Feminists keep lying to women and telling us that we were being ‘oppressed’). Life was just as tough for most men of that era as it was for most women of that era. Men were every bit as ‘oppressed’ as women were.
Various ancient societies, including Rome, Greece, Egypt, all have examples of women contributing to society in various ways, in the domestic and public sphere (even though the Feminists have twisted it to make it look like those women had no rights and were being ‘oppressed’, while simultaneously contradicting themselves and talking about how women did have power, just not in the same masculine way that men did. This is evident of the internalised misogyny that most Feminists have, and lack of respect for women of the past and the roles that they played in contributing to human society).
Much of history has been re-written by Feminist historians to paint women as ‘oppressed.’ This article talks about how women ‘lacked any role in public life’ in Rome, which makes women believe that they were of less value to men. But that simply isn’t true. There are so many ancient Roman goddesses, and as the article mentions, the priestesses of Vestia were greatly worshipped and respected. Ancient mythology is littered with goddesses, from Hestia to Isis. The term ‘virgin’ (before Christianity) had nothing to do with sexual chastity and purity, it was about celebrating the maiden, which was simply a term for a young, unmarried women (although again, Feminist historians have twisted this to make it look like women were being ‘oppressed’ even though this doesn’t make any sense).
All throughout ancient societies, women have been worshipped, for a woman is the bringer of life and creation. The masculine and the feminine are complimentary in practically every tradition apart from Feminist social constructionism. What man would ‘oppress’ his own wife (a wife he would have, in most cases, loved and cared for dearly and provided for) and then go and pray to a female goddess? Again, this makes no sense.
Of course some individuals have always been sexist towards women (just as some people have always been sexist towards men; women are as capable of domestic violence and criminal activities as men are), but this cruelty accounts for the minority. Human populations would not have survived if everyone was a horrible narcissist (which most people are not) and men were ‘oppressing’ women (most women would have simply risen up and challenged men anyway, for women have always been strong and capable). Even Louise Perry (part of the Feminist legacy of angry white women) asserts on p.39 of her recent book that only around 10% of men have violent sexually predatory urges (a figure she cites that is also used by domestic abuse expert Dina McMillan).
What’s rather remarkable is that, even though most women are not as interested in politics as most men, this has not stopped plenty of female leaders (including so-called oppressed Feminists) having roles and governance in the public world: Hypatia, Cleopatra, Boudicca, Yaa Asantewaa, Hatshepsut, Queen Victoria, Empress Dowager Cixi, and so on. So many women have contributed to society outside of the domestic sphere all throughout human history.
Where was the so-called patriarchy ‘oppressing’ these women? Any woman who has wanted to get into power has faced the same challenges as any man in her position. The only difference is that more men than women are interested in politics, so perhaps these women were viewed as exceptions, but instead of whining about being ‘oppressed victims’, they overcame adversities and became leaders. They were different from most women at their time, but they didn’t let this stop them. They didn’t view themselves as ‘oppressed’, they simply got on with things. They were aware of their privilege and used it for good, rather than to whine and complain.
Why do a small group of angry white women (i.e. modern Feminists) get to put down everyone else and claim that their personal hardships (which I don’t doubt are valid, but have nothing to do with ‘systemic sexism’) are somehow more important than hardships facing those suffering from real systemic oppression and social injustice (most of the people murdered by police in America are men, particularly African-American men, whom Feminism has done absolutely nothing for – so much for ‘equality’).
The Enlightenment and ‘Proto’-Feminism
The origins of Feminism come from the Age of Enlightenment as part of a social reaction to institutional Christianity and imperialism. The Enlightenment (which lasted from the 17th to 18th century) was a period of European history in which many new inventions and ideas were being created. The period of human history from the creation of the Roman Empire until roughly the 16th century was mostly feudal. Democratic reform did not become commonplace in the West until the 19th century. While Feminists love to tiresomely insist that women were ‘oppressed’ due to not being able to vote, most men across Western feudal societies were also unable to vote.
Feminism technically began in France with the French revolution. Olympe de Gouges was one of the first to whine about rich white women being ‘oppressed’ and promoted misandric ideas of ‘perpetual male tyranny’ (that same tyranny that created social structures like marriage to protect these privileged white women). She was living in a time when African-American men weren’t even viewed as human beings and Native Americans were being murdered and slaughtered, and she had the nerve to call herself ‘oppressed’? Oppressed by marriage, an institution created to protect and care for women (82% of romance fiction readers are women, showing that most women do desire love and the romantic love from a man, something which Feminism can’t reconcile itself with).
Feminisme’ as a term didn’t really exist until around the 1830s, when a utopian socialist named Charles Pourier invented the term (or so he has been credited). His ideas, along with the Marxist ideas around abolishing capitalism and the family, collectively inspired the later Feminist movements.
Engels published The Origin of the Family, Property, and State in 1884 in which he claimed that women were oppressed as wives under this so-called patriarchy (this is where Feminism got most of its ideas from about the family unit ‘oppressing’ women and women being viewed as second-class citizens, even though it’s ridiculous to even assume that most men would view their own wives and mothers as ‘second-class citizens’).
It’s true that Marx outlined many problems with capitalism. However, instead of offering reform, he offered revolution. He wanted to reshape society in some ridiculous communist utopia. He and Engels set about their manifesto that wanted to destroy the family unit, destroy the private ownership of property and land, and pushed the tiresome narrative that marriage and being a wife was ‘oppressive’ (something Friedan and Steinem later used to generate the post-1960s Feminist movement).
First Wave Feminism
Western Feminism was officially created in 1848 at Seneca Falls because a yet-another small group of angry white women believed that they were oppressed (while African-Americans were struggling with genuine oppression). Some of them did have genuine causes for concern, but the women who ran the movement (namely Lucrecia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton) were foreshadowing of the hateful later Feminists that came about.
As for the so-called noble Suffragettes, they were indeed different to later post-1960s Feminists, and they weren’t talking about ‘destroying the patriarchy’ or destroying marriage, nor were they lobbying for abortion. However, the Suffragettes were just as militant, and angry as many of their Feminist foremothers and the later Feminists. They were not calm, noble, rational creatures — instead, they shouted over people, partook in the dreadful white feather campaign which involved the humiliation of young men, and even bombed churches and buildings.
They weren’t even lobbying for all women’s suffrage. It was voting rights for (yet again) a small class of privileged, wealthy, angry white women. Black people couldn’t vote. Most men couldn’t vote. By 1918, only 58% of men in the UK could actually vote (even this BBC article loaded with Feminist propaganda states that British men could only vote if they were over 30, owned property, and had lived in England for at least 12 months).
Meanwhile, men in the USA could only vote if they were conscripted for the war (and up until the ‘60s, the voting age in America was 21, so no, not ‘all men’ could vote). The contributions of women during the first world war led to more women becoming involved in public life (the anti-suffrage campaign wasn’t about so-called ‘misogyny’, it was about women being genuinely concerned about the necessities of women’s involvement in politics. Again — the fact that Feminists hate — women and men are different, and most women simply aren’t as interested in politics as men and have enjoyed different functions in society).
Plenty of women (including Florence Nightingale, Queen Victoria, and Mary Augusta Ward – all apparently ‘misogynistic woman-haters’ as Feminists keep tiresomely insisting) opposed women’s suffrage, not because of ‘sexism’, but once again, because men and women held different roles in society. They were simply voicing concerns about disruptions towards public life, but the angry Feminists didn’t (and still don’t) listen to the concerns of other people, being unable to see past their own privilege.
Mary Augusta Ward was a novelist and education reformer. Modern (Feminist) history would dub her a ‘sexist’ for being against women’s suffrage, but she did more good for women (and for men) than any Feminist. Her critique of women’s voting rights was based on how women were typically viewed at the time, and concerns that women becoming involved in public voting life would disrupt the harmony of society. It wasn’t to do with ‘sexism’ or ‘misogyny’ or the so-called patriarchy.
This article states: ‘Leading women voiced a wide range of progressive anti-suffrage arguments which they called ‘the forward position’. They claimed that women were as capable as men, if not superior in some ways, but destined to fulfil a different role in society. Their caring and maternal role rested upon their moral strength and emotional sensitivity.’ This isn’t ‘misogyny’, it’s just a description of how things were at the time. If anything, it’s the opposite of misogyny: the women at the time simply were not as involved in politics and public life as the men at the time. Voting just didn’t concern most women.
After millions of men died in the first world war, (white) women AND men over 30 in the UK got the right to vote. They got the right to vote on the backs of men who had died in the war and women who had worked in the public sphere, not because of ‘Feminism.’ The triumph of the vote in England was about the working-class, not privileged white Feminists. In fact, the Suffragettes abandoned their campaign to get involved with the war effort, so they are not even the ones to thank for getting women the right to vote.
(Note: I’m not at all endorsing strict gender roles. It’s a good thing that modern women can vote and be involved in public life, but this was all thanks to advancements in technology and social progress, not ‘Feminism’.)
Second-Wave Feminism
The second-wave Feminist campaign was triggered by the publication of The Feminine Mystique, published by (yet another) angry white woman who was unaware of her immense social privilege. Once again, she was upset because most women didn’t want the same things in life as she did, and instead of supporting and encouraging women to go for their dreams and do more with their lives than be a housewife and mother (even though being a housewife and mother is not a bad thing and Feminists have completely devalued this), she decided that all men oppressed women via marriage via this ludicrous ‘patriarchy’, expanding on Marxist theory (Friedan was heavily involved in the US Communist movement). She lied about women not being able to work; thousands of women worked during the second world war, but after the war, people wanted to re-enter a period of domestic peace and re-building society (because most people, unlike Feminists, cared about the common good).
Women in America got equal pay in 1963 as part of JFK’s New Frontier (pushed with the aid of a woman named Esther Peterson), and the National Organisation for Women was formed in 1966. What rights did (white) American women have that men did not have? What were Friedan and Steinem even lobbying for? Abortion wasn’t even part of their original manifesto and they didn’t include it until a man named Larry Lader suggested that they lobby for it. While I do support abortion rights to protect women from backstreet abortions, abortion has unfortunately become something of a celebration for Feminists, which the American pro-life organisation Feminists for Life rallies against, rather than an unfortunate yet legal necessity. The flippant modern Feminist approach to abortion greatly devalues human life and is deeply problematic.
Why have Feminists left pro-life women out of their ‘women’s’ movement? If Feminism is for ‘all women’ (which it isn’t), why does it ignore pro-life women and ignore the fact that most women prior to second-wave Feminism were anti-abortion? I’m not even on the pro-life side yet I don’t understand this at all. Most people are neither wholly ‘pro-life’ nor wholly ‘pro-choice’, they instead view the argument as more nuanced which again, Feminism simply doesn’t lobby for (showing yet again a failure on their part to actually help women).
Feminism has taken credit for the right to vote (which was more about class than gender), equal pay (which was more about practicality of more women entering the workforce), contraception (which was invented by a team of scientists including Gregory Goodwin-Pincus, Charles Djerassi, Frank B. Colton, and encouraged by a woman named Margaret Sander even though the Feminists have taken credit for her achievements, once again undermining women), women’s lives improving (which was thanks to inventions like ovens, washing machines and refrigerators, giving women more time to pursue careers, higher education and start the second-wave Feminist movement), abortion rights (which in the US, were granted in 1973 on the basis of liberty by a Supreme Court full of men and in the UK, passed in 1967 thanks to the socially progressive Labour government to prevent women dying from backstreet abortions), and just about every achievement that someone else has granted women. Feminists should be thanking the men (and women) who fought to make our lives easier.
Phyllis Schlafly, a woman who Feminists hate, actually acknowledged her privilege (instead of using it to bully others) and rightfully stated that Anglo-American upper-middle-class women were some of the most fortunate members of society. While I disagree with much of her opinions, particularly on abortion, homosexuality, sex and what she says about people of other cultures, I respect her for a) being aware of her privilege and b) using that privilege to stick up for people who had been shunned and ignored by the Feminists: housewives and mothers, who Feminism has done absolutely nothing for. Second-wave Feminism tacked on to the civil rights movement, with a group of angry white women having the (highly racist) nerve to say that they were as ‘oppressed’ as African Americans. Schlafly called the Feminists out on this, and thus she is a villain in their eyes (and it portrayed as such in the pro-Feminist docu-drama Mrs America).
The Feminist Legacy
Despite their promises of equality, unity and female prosperity, Feminists have yet to achieve anything actually worthwhile for women. Sex workers remain left out of mainstream Feminism, which allegedly supports women’s rights and sexual liberty (an obvious lie, as instead of lobbying for safer, decriminalised sex work which is what sex-positive advocates support, Feminists want to get rid of it and, once again, limit women’s personal agency).
Marriage has decreased since the 1970s and divorce has become more commonplace. Most abortions are carried out because the woman just chose not to have the baby, usually because of being on a low income. Why not build a world where no woman feels like abortion is her only option? To be in a position where one feels they must abort a form of life is a terribly sad thing for any woman to endure. Why don’t modern Western Feminists value human life? Why does mainstream Feminism say ‘my body my choice’ when it comes to abortion but not when it comes to sex work?
(Note: I do also think that an ideal world would be one without sex work, but right now, instead of making prostitution safer and better for sex workers, Feminists are simply punishing sex workers by putting them in the same categories as sex-trafficked women. Not to mention, they fail to even consider why men would visit sex workers in the first place, showing their continual lack of empathy towards men’s personal struggles.)
Feminists hold more power in society than the majority of men do. ‘Patriarchy’ just refers to a political system where most of the external power structures are held by (a small group of) men, but that doesn’t mean that women don’t/didn’t have any power. Our world is just as patriarchal now as it was a thousand years ago — something which Feminists keep on saying, which is rather ironic considering they claim to be all about change then claim ‘nothing’s changed’. Things have changed of course, though — the legacy of late 20th century Feminism is mass family breakdowns, rising of single mothers, rising in abortions, rise in divorce rates, incels, women being unhappier than ever, less people staying married and so on.
As for Intersectional Feminism (which I would need yet another long essay to truly unpack), all Intersectional Feminism has done is create yet more Marxist-based division and tricked black women into thinking that Feminism was ever for us. Womanism was created by and for black women. Intersectionality lumps all of people's struggles into the same category by creating yet more social division and painting straight white men as 'evil' rather than seeing them as human beings. A small group of people control the world and they have nothing to do with the vast majority of heterosexual white men (heterosexual white men, who for the most part, have helped to create structures and inventions to improve society for the betterment of men and women).
Kimberel Crenshawe, like many other black women, was greatly fooled into thinking that Feminism could ever be for women of colour. African American women (and people of Afro-Caribbean descent) have endured systemic hardships that no angry privileged white Feminist woman in the last few centuries has ever had to deal with or can even relate to. It's a blatant lie that Feminism can be or has ever been for women of colour and black women really should not allow themselves to be taken in by something that was never for us to begin with.
It is Feminism that has told women that we are inferior to men and that women have always been ‘oppressed’ by some conspiratorial patriarchy.
It is Feminism that has utterly belittled, mocked, and shamed the women of the past for all they contributed to society, by distorting the narrative to say they were ‘barred from public life’ rather than accepting the (actual) narrative that men were involved in public life and women were involved in the private and domestic sphere.
It is Feminism that continuously contradicts itself by daring to call women ‘oppressed’, and yet citing amazing women in history who rose to the top due to her own merit, not because of ‘Feminism’.
It is Feminism which has taken credit for everything that other women (and men) have done to make life better for women, without even bothering to offer a word of thanks to the men and women who came before.
It is Feminism which continues to use Feminism as an excuse for enacting social change, when social change comes from individuals who work and cooperate together, not from some hateful misandric female supremacist doctrine.
It is Feminism which encourages women to shame, bully, and gaslight any man or woman who even offers an alternative narrative. If one has to resort to hateful name-calling to get their point across by calling someone a ‘transphobe/racist/sexist/bigot’ then their point clearly lacks any real substance.
Feminism has lied to women by telling women that we are oppressed, we are inferior to men, society is a patriarchy, gender is a social construct, and undermined the contributions to society by women of the past. I look at Feminists and wonder how they have allowed themselves to be taken in by such a hateful ideology which has done absolutely nothing to empower and uplift women. The actions of individuals based on compassion and reason are what lead to social change. I do not doubt that many Feminists do indeed do good things to help society, but their actions come from the innate goodness of humans and our desire to generate change. No single man or woman on this planet need attribute any desire to do good to the hateful, bigoted, toxic, misandrist ideology that is Feminism.
