2023.02.03 05:42 cassiope Looking for Transitional style bedroom furniture

What can I say? I'm Gen X and boring.
I'm looking for transitional style furniture - not the contemporary/modern look that most places are highlighting right now, but also not the super heavy traditional or weathered farmhouse looks.
I've been to the basic mid-range stores: Bassett, Ashley, Haverty's. Does anyone know any places that have a good chance of stocking what I'm looking for? My preference is to not have to drive to every independent and consignment store looking for a specific style that is not currently on trend.
Thanks much!

2023.02.03 05:42 2ndPick Which Dokkan theme would make a great wrestling entrance music?

After Kenny Omega used "One Winged Angel Rebirth" theme as his one-off wrestling entrance theme on NJPW, I'm curious if there's any Dokkan OST that would make a banger entrance song.
My pick would be AGL Metal Cooler theme, with it's unique start and build-up for pyro or crowd chant.

2023.02.03 05:41 KyletheAngryAncap Defending Peterson on Foucault.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELdiYnXZd_Y&t=207s
The part about the history of Psychology sounds like a conflation to the point of equivocation fallacy of old psychology with modern psychology (want to conflate natural philosophy/astrology with modern science and astronomy? oh wait, you probably assume the general "search for physical knowledge" overwrites what the majority of adherants of these fields actually believe in), with the Christian psychologists thrown is a concept to create a doubt that isn't applicable to many, if not most cases.
Foucault was called epistemically vulgar because his notion of truth and power was association fallacy, with any injustice being an injustice on if the ideas were wrong, and the authority of the people being a gray area due to mental illness.
(This isn't related to the above video, but the same creator made a separate video saying that post-modernism isn't leftist because post-modernism relies on "is" statements rather than "ought" statements. I eagerly await his application of the distinction towards holocaust denial. yes this is appeal to hypocrisy, but I'm still bitter at what appears to be an inconsistency.)
Another aspect is saying "Foucault never said this." While for most of the video it's a good critique of peterson's ignorance, around the 11 minute mark he says that because Foucault never stated that mental illness was a myth, he never tried to negate psychology. The problem is that by saying the academic elite were biased, then that consequently means that their authority can be questioned, and as such, questioned radically, to the point that mental illness could be entirely made up, as seen in the idea of Schizoanalysis within Anti-Oedipus. And this isn't entirely based on Foucault being ignorant, but, given his writings, he actively encouraged such questioning.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otUvcBM_H8s&t=0s (and here is where things will likely get difficult)
3:00 mentioning Foucault as being revolutionary because he brought up ideas in the 60s kind of ignores how he could become stale if not obsolete by psychologists integrating, if not overcoming the problems he described, which they likely do given that lobotomies aren't prescribed anymore, and even medications are more monitored.
around 5:00: The use of historical psychology ignores developments such as neuropsychology being more based on actual physical evidence, and the stereotype part is more about the general public than the actual researchers.
Entering the 6:30 mark: referencing early psychology in France is kind of unfair to apply to modern psychology, somewhat similar to saying a person can't hold a knife because they cut themselves with one at 4 years old. It ignores the added experience and knowledge that accrued. It's especially unfair in that while psychology legitimately was more of a tool than a science in itself at the time, it has gotten more respectable to the point that, at worst, people need to actually study it before inserting their own agendas, rather than working solely off of the views at the time.
6:40-7:38 Foucault does mention a good point by mentioning the corruption of medicine into a quasi legal system (if inserting a definition of capitalism that boils down to "rich people do bad thing") but he then goes overboard and says that while the corruption can be linked to an external force, that scientific statements are bad because possible contamination.
13:00: The problem with the unity in unrationality is that it creates a mere inversion. It's not a good system because it's justifiable in itself, but because it's oppositional to the bad. On the surface the inverse of bad sounds good, until you realize that (speaking in a metaphor more geared towards the left) that fascism and anarcho-capitalism are bad in separate ways; fascism being a direct control and ever continuing empire based entirely around the specific nationality, while ancap being a system of indirect control through economics that might devolve to complete disaster through a supply strike of climate collapse, with racism being theoretically seen as illogical but able to become a serious issue under the correct circumstances. Fascism and ancap may not sound related to this, but they do exemplify why inversion isn't enough to be "good." Another issue would be unity from pride in unrationality, as if it wouldn't be, at most, an acceptable quality. This pride would be an incorrect response by worshipping something that doesn't need to be worshipped instead of going towards a moral case against the assertion of rationality.
13:40: The assertion that the gays are opposed by being some nebulous "other" ignores that the books explicitly prohibit the actions. How they got prohibited might be explained by othering if there isn't another explanation (perhaps disgust, or sex being reserved for reproduction), but the initial condemnation ignores the integration of new members, who following not because of the initial given reasons but because the Bible was instructed to them as the ultimate source of truth and morality, and that anyone who goes against it is bad.
13:50: the grooming allegations are usually from small examples, or even just rationalizations to justify condemning the homosexuals for something they didn't choose; if it's a choice, then god isn't punishing people for an unavoidable sin, which has become unpalatable in most forms of Western Christianity, even if a natural conclusion, because people are on the whole stupid. it isn't about some grand "other".
Around 19:40: Foucault's criticism of progress is based more on it being more chaotic than initially described, not about it actually being completely wrong.

2023.02.03 05:40 Cindyclawsbee Going to listen to TMV (the record) for the third time, since right after it launched. Song for song diary.

Just an fyi, I typically don't really give a fuck about lyrics until I do and even then still focus more on just the music. Mind you, I know what the subject matter is about and I understand the beauty of some of the songs.
Also, I am listening to this straight through and keeping a running diary as I listen to it. Not that anyone asked or gives a fuck lol.
Blacklight Shine - The song that I thought was going to lead to a new direction for the band in general. And let me tell you, I was fucking so on board with this sound going forward. It's still such an amazing song. It does have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth from the initial hope. The video version is so cool too, I love the fucking beats and the beach. I can do that all day.
Graveyard Love - OK, so we're just doing whatever we want now huh? The drumming is just so good on this song. This feels like a clean version less original Volta sound of a sub-song found on scabdates or something. Vibing, and working towards the beginning of the next banger.
Shore Story - I can't lie I already don't like it. Ok, 1:30 is what I want hear. I love Cedric's voice but I am legit bored. That little drum part was cool.
Blank Condolences - I love how Cedric writes his lyrics within the music. But this just feels like half of TMV. I need more sound. Speak of the devil, Omar doing some stuff, forgot about this. I need a funkier bass too here or something.
Vigil - Already listened to this a bunch before the album came out. I literally thought to myself that if the album sounded more like this than the other three then I think I am not going to have a good time. Called it... but I will say I like this album so far more than I remembered. This just feels like sad not weird Bosnian Rainbows dialed down even more.
Que Dios Maldiga Mi Corazon - YASSSSSSSSS, obviously if you have been reading along I am loving this. Bro, this is a fucking banger! Still want more from Cedric or some sort of biting sound there. Ok this guitar part is so great and subtle. Oh yeah FUCK. This song is a minute forty bro................
Cerulea - This is a song so far. OK well I have nothing else to focus on but the fucking lyrics and they are very nice. This is a nice song. My wife is ill and has been for a while, maybe a subliminal reason I did not favor this album lol.
Flash Burns From The Flashbacks - This is a good song so far. Good drumming all across this album for sure. I have good headphones and a pre-amp and I just can't feel the bass, idk man. I'm no audiophile or professional musician but whatever.
Palm Full Of Crux - Can only focus on the lyrics. Just not what I want to do here man. I still love how Cedric sounds. And it's a very nice thing this record has done. Song made me think if my wife, way back in the day, always with me and toughing it out to be close to first in line to their shows in the freezing cold every time they came to town and it made me tear up. Everybody on? Good great, GRAND, WONDERFUL!
No Case Gain - I don't like the beat at all lol. The beginning feels like that musical TV show that takes the band in some stupid direction. And then the next section starts and it sounds like they did it again but better lol. This song sounds like a Ween song or something. So, I guess I objectively like it but not as TMV lmao.
Tourmaline - I feel hints of past TMV songs in this one. Too bad Jon is playing on carpet drums and Omar is passed out. Didn't look at the lyrics this time. Meh.
Equus 3 - That last song was good enough where I skipped ahead to write that I think I remember liking this one? Oh shit yeah I like the groove. It seems like it's building to something cool here. Cedric comes in cool. His style and voice so cool here, as normal. Different voice shit finally. Underwhelming payoff but it's still a good song so far. Not going to lie looking forward to chorus again. The drop is good. Oh shit Omar is alive. Weird Omar guitar detected. Me likey.
Collapsible Shoulders - Man, Cerulea through Palm Full Of Crux was fucking rough to get by. I swear this was going to be fucking Vigil again. Oh shit that's right, this whole melody he does is really fucking cool. The rest of the music just supports it. So, I guess I didn't really like all the other times this album does that hahahahaha. Yeah, this melody is cool as fuck.
The Requisition - Literally feel like I've never heard this. Ok start. Ok Ok OK I like the drumming and guitar here finally. Yeah, this is good. I like the aggressiveness here. He sounds vengeful. Wow, for a song I have definitely listened to twice I forgot this existed noooooooooo it ended? I swear I was typing this as it ended I am not memeing.
Conclusion - Better than I remembered. I honestly listened to it all just on a whim since I was feeling good and wanted to give it another go. Not going to lie, I think there's only a few songs on here that will pop in my head and make me want to listen again. I'm glad they're back and I'm glad for everyone who loves this record. It's not for me, but this listen was better than the first two that's for sure. I listened to it on back to back nights when it came out. All that build up and wait as a long time fan really fucking kneecapped it.

2023.02.03 05:39 SeaShellNautilus An Interesting Read

Morning and Evening Daily Devotional by C.H. Spurgeon February, 3 Devotion “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors.”
Romans 8:12
As God’s creatures, we are all debtors to him: to obey him with all our body, and soul, and strength. Having broken his commandments, as we all have, we are debtors to his justice, and we owe to him a vast amount which we are not able to pay. But of the Christian it can be said that he does not owe God’s justice anything, for Christ has paid the debt his people owed; for this reason the believer owes the more to love. I am a debtor to God’s grace and forgiving mercy; but I am no debtor to his justice, for he will never accuse me of a debt already paid. Christ said, “It is finished!” and by that he meant, that whatever his people owed was wiped away forever from the book of remembrance. Christ, to the uttermost, has satisfied divine justice; the account is settled; the handwriting is nailed to the cross; the receipt is given, and we are debtors to God’s justice no longer. But then, because we are not debtors to our Lord in that sense, we become ten times more debtors to God than we should have been otherwise. Christian, pause and ponder for a moment. What a debtor thou art to divine sovereignty! How much thou owest to his disinterested love, for he gave his own Son that he might die for thee. Consider how much you owe to his forgiving grace, that after ten thousand affronts he loves you as infinitely as ever. Consider what you owe to his power; how he has raised you from your death in sin; how he has preserved your spiritual life; how he has kept you from falling; and how, though a thousand enemies have beset your path, you have been able to hold on your way. Consider what you owe to his immutability. Though you have changed a thousand times, he has not changed once. Thou art as deep in debt as thou canst be to every attribute of God. To God thou owest thyself, and all thou hast—yield thyself as a living sacrifice, it is but thy reasonable service.

2023.02.03 05:38 Melodic-Koala4878 Here is why shorts have to deliver SCLX dividend shares to you: “If you were the Record Holder as of the Record Date …but have not received the Dividend Stock, you may be entitled to receive Dividend Stock from the short seller or other party who borrowed your shares of Sorrento common stock”.

Based today’s PR, shorts have no choice but deliver dividend shares to longs account. It’s broker’s duty to get it from shorts and send it to your account. Guys, if you have a margin account (very likely your SRNE shares have been lent to shorts), you would need to call broker to get your dividend shares since you get it from shorts not from company. And broker will have to perform this duty for you - therefore shorts have no choice but to cover! Squeeze is guaranteed when all margin accounts receive their dividend shares! So it doesn’t matter if value is displayed in your account in that regard. However when the value is displayed, margin call will likely to occur on shorts which would add extra fuel to the rally. That’s it! So guys with margin accounts, call your broker ASAP - the sooner you get your shares, the earlier SQUEEZE!!

2023.02.03 05:38 Dyeeguy what makes these songs sound uncomfortable but good?

I consider myself a decent producer and songwriter but I am having trouble making an instrumental in this style: https://open.spotify.com/track/0wWFrztqhZTqaXyGbsPlpk?si=6446d5b1b07a4172
It seems like a very simple beat. I think the sample sounds very strange until the vocal comes in. I mean tbh I like the weird sound but my friend described it as "bad" until the vocals dropped haha. If I was just an artist bumping beats in the studio I feel like it is the type of beat I would skip not too far in. So its hard for me to replicate + come up with a cool vocal line that makes the song "come together"
Inversely this is a song I think sounds kinda normal at least without the vocals, the vocal lines are just very strange but in a good way https://open.spotify.com/track/6vV1NDCjh2afFgQ9Vb7i86?si=59e30992be9c489c
another example that is not quite the same but still sounds "strange" to me in some parts: https://open.spotify.com/track/46HtVZzU67A0PbA7tPwUFn?si=4789b4237e6d47a5
Despite their differences, I think you can see a few similarities in the vibes of the tracks. Kind of a weird rnb vibe, I am having trouble replicating the vibe

2023.02.03 05:37 zlpemllik Beginner of about 6 Months. Stopped playing at about 2.5 months due to the frustration from not making any progress. Recently started again. Certain riffs and chords are unplayable to me because of the way my fingers stretch or bend. Is this something that u can just eventually learn or get used to?

Ive been like 60% focused on learning the actual instrument and 40% just wanting to learn songs i like. Which most happen to be chords written by Steve Lacy. They’re simple short loops most of the time but my hands are just not trained to do it. Ive been focusing on learning the different chords and playing simple riffs for now and i’m seeing a little progress

I think the title summarizes the question but those kinds of raps (eternally and TATH) are really the best but I feel like they're the only songs out there who embody that specific vibe (I looked at other threads a lot of the songs just don't feel the same) also, DOESN"T NECESSARILY HAVE TO BE KPOP! 2023.02.03 05:35 chillaf Long shot: Looking for a track

There was a song that came out around 10 years ago (Around 2012) that sampled the old school song “If you don’t know me by now” by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. It used the beginning of the original song and it kind of faded after 10 seconds and then the edm song started. For some reason I think it was 12th planet but it may not have been. It was definitely on a mixtape. If you guys help me out with this I’ll be forever grateful!

2023.02.03 05:33 Fuersty 3-4 Piece Brazilian, all girl band, more thrashy, black and white video a few years back?

This is a bit off of the charter for stonerrock, but I don't think I'd get any traction in the massive metal subreddit. I remember a music video with 3 (or possibly 4) piece girl band, I'm pretty certain from Brazil with a cool trashy black and white video that was set in an abandoned garage structure. Purely a live performance of the song with multiple cameras and cuts but from the one location. I suspect it debuted between 2015-2019.
If anyone can figure out the video from such a vague description, I'll send your favorite pizza to your door.

2023.02.03 05:33 painfullymoronic musical motifs

this is a very niche question, but i don't know where else i would ask it. i am super interested in the fact that certain musical elements make music sound like different concepts (think sleigh bells + major mode with minor and diminished chords = christmas music). one of my favorite examples of this is a piece i've performed called Chimes by Oliver Tarney. personally, the music seems very appropriate for the lyrics, and it really gives off a sense of floating and mysterious charm (i might be biased from listening to it for so long). another piece that has a similar idea is one called Flying Solo by Philip E. Silvy, however this one gives more of a flying sense than floating, as well as having an almost archaic, plane with a propellor on the front feel. both of these are available on youtube for reference.
all of this to ask, what makes these songs both sound like flying, but in different ways? immediate similarities in the sheet music are that the piano lines both consist of mostly repeating sixteenth notes, however Chimes is in 6/8 while Flying Solo is in 2/2. what are some other things you notice about these? aside from this, what are some other pieces (choral, symphonic, pop or otherwise) that give off really specific sentiments?
